Work Text:
Soulmates were propaganda, and Pearl refused to believe in hers. She was told about it, and she had believed in it, back then anyway. But when hers straight up left her for someone else, her heart broke.
Scott was a nice enough guy, nice looks, funny jokes and a charming smile. Everyone loved him! Except for Pearl anyway.
On the nights where she felt particularly lonely, she would lean out of her tower and stare at the moon. It was always there. Sure, sometimes it was hidden behind clouds, or it was the beginning of a new moon. But it provided the stability in her life that her soulmate couldn't.
The moon was all on its own, just like her, yet it still shone brightly in the sky, and it didn't let the surrounding stars affect it. Pearl was like that, in a way. She pretended that none of the rumours affected her, putting on a brave face and staying confident. But deep down inside, they hurt. Having everyone on the server think you’re a psycho who can't even hold a relationship, and to hear them whispering about it as she passed, it felt like a shot through the heart every time.
In her final moments, as Scott lit the TNT, her gaze flicked up to the sky, yet it was nowhere to be found. Must've been a new moon, but honestly? She didn't need it anymore. She had found herself a friend, and that friend was in Scott, the man who had rejected her at the very start of the season. How unlikely.
