ollo everyone, it's me!!!!
The resident “idiot trying to figure out lore tidbits but instead somehow started a fandom war”! (Don't ask me how it happened, I'm still confused myself.)
Ik it's been a while since I last posted here, mainly because I thought I discovered everything important in this game. However, as this post shows, Changing Times still has secrets that are undiscovered. And more IMPORTANTLY, NOT RESEARCHED!!!!!! So after reading about how to activate this route, I immediately booted up the game to try and finish it myself since no one wrote about the changes in the ending.
This means it's time for me to try and fail miserably to document all the changes in this “Siffrin” route. And if you don't know who Siffrin is, let me explain it rl quick.
So apparently we're all fools??? Somehow this little wizard/rouge/whatever the hell he is was able to avoid our gazes for so long. And it's mainly because to actually get them to your party, you need to do so many specific things. There's this post if you want a more thorough guide on how to get Siffrin, but I'll just list off his character traits that I wrote:
• Very, very, VERY fond and protective of his party. Even, and I kid you not, LOUISE???? HOW??????? Siffrin has a better view of him than like 99% of other characters. And most hilariously, his relationship with Louise is literally set to one. You can't get any higher or lower than that(trust me, I tried). I think Siffrin CANNOT have a negative relationship with any of the party members.
• Somehow has a 6th sense for traps. One of the only characters who can actually disable the trap in the room before the 4th Orb that normally attracts that annoying Sadness named Temps that is responsible for many TPKs because most people aren't prepared for it's fast, hard hitting attacks combined with monstrous health that takes so much time to kill. I'm not even going to mention the speed debuffs it gives.
• Changes his behavior depending on his party members. Examples include: Makes jokes more often after Isabeau laughs at them. Starts poking fun at Odile after they go on a “secret quest” at least once. Talks more to Mirabelle after she mentions Theatre Plays and etc.
• Actually teaches Bonnie how to ATTACK??? You know that sometimes Bonnie can use Tonics on your party members during combat, but after Siffrin reaches maximum relationship with Bonnie he teaches them how to deal damage. Granted, it's not reliable and doesn't deal that much DMG. However, it's VERY COOL!!!
Also small things I noted while doing the guide to get Siffrin, is that Mirabelle… doesn't have her character arc??? You know that in the start she stutters, is very anxious and etc. However, after you get the second Orb/defeat enough Sadnesses/help someone, the game will assign +1 point to her hidden stat that's literally called Character arc. All what it does is change her to be more confident in herself and is very nice to see!
Though I think because we haven't gotten the Paper Craft for Isabeau, Mirabelle isn't confident in herself or her party. That's why she's still an anxious mess by the time we meet Odile. And THAT'S WHY ODILE LITERALLY FORCES US TO LET HER JOIN THEM!!!
I think the triggers are still broken for her Character Arc though. She still doesn't accept any help/praise towards her even though she's literally blessed by the Change God? I tried to defeat enough Sadnesses to give her +1 to the Character Arc, though that didn't change anything. Think that's a bug where it probably gave her like -10 points to the Character Arc stats so now she's still anxiety itself. This does allow us to read previously thought impossible to get legitimately dialogue and new interactions. Will write more about this in the future posts.
Anyhow back to our wizard/rogue/blorbo, they are weird. Like really, REALLY weird. Most of their dialogue cannot be repeated as they constantly forget what they just said. “That's not anything exciting though!” - You might think, right? WRONG! Because we get one of the most creepiest moments that this game has in the town near the final 5th Orb. We all know there's an abandoned Inn there where our party has a cutscene where they talk about their own countries. It's there to remind players that their characters come from many different places and to do some world building. Let me just write what I saw rl quick to give y'all some context. (I can't do this scene justice it deserves, so please get to it yourself before reading further. This is your last warning!)
———————————————————
Isabeau: “Wait, what about you Sif? Where did YOU come from?”
Siffrin: “Hm? Very easy question, I come from..!”
. . .
. . .
. . .
Isabeau: “Uh, Sif? Buddy?”
Siffrin: “... I ... don't … remember … ?”
Isabeau: “Siffrin?”
Siffrin:
"Why can't I remember? WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY-"
The screen is shaking while being covered in red lighting, one of the only times this monochrome world has color. And it's as unnatural as it sounds.
Then, as abruptly as it started…
Siffrin: “Hm? You asked something, Isabeau?”
Isabeau: “Uhhh, nevermind. Forget I asked. (Why do I feel… scared?)”
———————————————————
And everything continues as normal. Even if Siffrin literally just had his text MOVE PAST THE CRABBING TEXT BOX??? It sounds like a bad creepypasta but istg it actually happens in the game. That took such a weird route. It's one of the only times you can see the world literally have a seizure. So now we know that Siffrin has a backstory™ but we don't have all the pieces. We know there's something creepy going on that causes some NPCs to freak out about not remembering about certain things. But how it connects, I've zero clue. Tell me your theories for that because I'm currently right about to get the 5th Orb so I'll update you later when I get to Dormant.
Edit: Also forgot to mention about the Incident™. As we all know, our beloved snack leader normally gets injured by a Sadness in an unskippable cutscene. However, our resident cryptic ACTUALLY TAKES THE HIT FOR THEM??? AND LOSES HIS EYE?!?! I had to actually pause the game for a bit to process what the crab just happened. Because it looks much, MUCH more gruesome than I first thought when mentioned it in his post. You actually have to see it in the game to understand what I mean.
