“TEXAS SMASH!” All Might yelled, punching the air and blowing the dastardly villain into the ocean. The clear blue skies clouded over from the change in air pressure, dark rumbling clouds rolling in. Over the otherwise calm surface of the water, ripples began to form…
Yaoyorozu Momo was walking back from the mall with her friends. They were exhausted but satisfied, carrying a few bags on each of their arms. The three of them had made a day trip to go visit the Decks Tokyo Beach mall by Tokyo Bay, having had the day off from middle school.
“Hey, let’s go check out that crêpe stand!” Aoi exclaimed.
“Ah, that’s so cute! We gotta go!” Shizuki said, grabbing Momo’s hand and tugging her along.
Momo stumbled, but managed to right herself. “Hey, slow down!”
As they approached the stand, raindrops began to fall from the now-stormy sky. Momo held out her hand and let the water drops hit her palm. The wind began to blow fiercely.
“Huh,” she said. “The weather forecast didn’t predict this.”
“It’s probably because of someone’s quirk,” Shizuki dismissed. “Come on, what are you gonna order—”
Suddenly, something fell from the sky, landing with a squelching slap on the concrete. It was a shark!
Aoi screamed.
The shark flailed and gnashed its massive, razer-sharp teeth.
“What’s happening?!” Shizuki screamed, pushing the three of them to back away from the shark.
Momo’s thoughts ran wild. What could she do in a situation like this? What would a hero do? The crowds of people that were previously enjoying a sunny afternoon by the Bay had begun to run in all directions, frantically calling out to loved ones or for heroes to save them.
Another shark fell from the sky, landing behind them. Aoi yelped and grabbed onto Momo’s arm. More slapping sounds echoed throughout the plaza, followed by screams.
With dread, Momo turned towards the water. Above the chaotic waves, the clouds swirled into a raging tornado—one speckled with grey blobs. Grey, finned blobs.
One of the grey shapes grew larger, its shadow falling over her and her friends.
Momo’s previously frantic thoughts slowed down into unnatural clarity. She knew exactly what to do. This was what she had trained for.
In her mind, she pictured each minute component, their chemical makeup, and where they slotted into place. She shoved her shirt up to reveal her stomach and activated her quirk, pulling out her creation.
A rocket launcher.
She aimed it at the approaching shark, braced herself, and fired.
Midoriya Izuku gaped in shock at the shark flopping around not even ten metres away from him. It had fallen out of the sky and landed on the sidewalk. The nearest beach was a few blocks away. What?! How—?!
Another shark fell from the sky, bouncing off the side of a highrise on its way down.
He looked up, above the towering buildings, and saw the approaching tornado.
It was full of sharks.
As sharks began to rain down, Izuku ran towards his apartment, dodging the flapping fins and chomping teeth. He knew just what he needed.
“—This tornado, or, rather, sharknado, as many have begun to call it, has grown exponentially, throwing the region into chaos. The total count of shark-related deaths is unknown at the moment, but experts estimate that it could be as high as one hundred.”
The news anchor tightened their grip on their umbrella as the winds threatened to blow it away.
In a hoarse voice, they continued to shout into the microphone, “A catastrophe of this scale hasn’t been seen in Japan for years. Heroes are attempting to respond, but the scale and growth of the sharknado may be beyond their abilities.
“The sharknado originated near the Tokyo Bay, but has now traveled into the Shizuoka Prefecture and shows no sign of slowing down. We urge all residents in the affected and surrounding prefectures to evacuate to—”
Suddenly, from the side of the screen, a shark flew into the news anchor, mouth first. The news anchor was knocked out of frame, the body of the shark taking their place. There was a cut-off scream and a crackle of static, as blood spattered onto the camera lens.
The screen cut to an error message.
Nezu set his teacup back in the saucer. It seemed he needed to get serious.
All Might stood on the rooftop of an office building, looking on in horror at the sharknado rampaging through the streets. Steam billowed out from his weak, skinny form, as he tried desperately to transform once again into his stronger form. No matter how hard he tried, nothing changed. Why? Why now, of all times?
The tornado—that had been him. He’d punched so hard he’d changed the weather. It wasn’t the first time he’d done so, but it had never gone like this before. And now there were sharks raining down on innocent civilians; civilians that were trusting in All Might to save them.
And he couldn’t do a thing.
Bakugou Katsuki screamed in rage, blasting a shark to pieces with a single explosion. Meaty shark bits rained down around him, ranging from rare to well done.
The smell of barbeque filled the air.
Katsuki’s stomach rumbled. He growled, narrowing his eyes at the oncoming sharks.
Those smooth-skinned fishy fuckers were gonna die.
Awata Kaoruko, professionally known as Bubble Girl, slammed open Sir Nighteye’s office door. She was panting heavily.
“Sir—” she began, before abruptly cutting herself off.
The room was empty. Except… was that crying she could hear?
She slowly crept towards Sir’s desk. Step by step, she drew closer, holding her breath until she was right behind the desk. The office chair had been haphazardly moved to the side, leaving Sir clearly visible underneath his desk. He was curled up in the fetal position, and the small amount of his face that she could see was covered in snot and tears.
“Uhh… Sir?”
He didn’t look up from the ground. Instead, he cried harder and yelled, “The end! It’s the end!” He buried his head in his knees and continued, softer, interspersed with sobs, “The apocalypse. I-it’s begun…”
…What the fuck?
Izuku’s hair blew dramatically in the wind, whipping against his cheeks. If not for his baby face, he would’ve been indistinguishable from an action movie protagonist. Lightning flashed, illuminating the watery street stretching out in front of him. Dead sharks lay scattered on the ground around Izuku, ripped to bloody shreds.
He revved his chainsaw.
In the distance, a stormy tornado approached. But it wasn’t any regular tornado—it was a sharknado.
Over the sound of Izuku’s chainsaw and the roaring sharknado, a thunderous stomping could be heard, growing closer. Izuku looked over his shoulder. It was an army of robots adorned with UA logos, towering over him. Three huge robots, each several stories tall, led the group. Metal flashed as they swatted sharks out of the air.
A loudspeaker crackled to life. “Am I a mouse, a dog, a bear? More importantly, I'm Nezu, UA’s principal! Excellent work, Midoriya!”
Izuku startled. How did UA’s principal know his name?!
Nezu continued, “Regardless, let’s stop this sharknado!”
At that moment, a rocket shot out of nowhere and hit the sharknado, detonating in a powerful blast. Water erupted out in a spray and several sharks turned to paste. A helicopter hovered above an apartment complex to his right, a young girl aiming a rocket launcher out of its open door.
Izuku grinned. “Nice hit!” he yelled over the roaring storm.
“Thanks!” the girl shouted back.
A shark flew at Izuku, jaws snapping at his face. He raised the chainsaw, slicing it in two. The two halves flew past him on either side, leaving him untouched save for a splatter of blood.
He stepped forward with his chainsaw held aloft, a determined glint flashing in his eyes. Behind him, the robots marched on, shooting lasers at the sharknado, and, to his right, the girl took aim with her rocket launcher.
It was time to end this.
