Chapter Text
Washington, D.C. Bones and Booth's House 2005.
Bones,Booth and Russ were standing in the middle of the kitchen and all three looked like they were tired of having the same conversation.
“Replay it again.” Russ says.
Bones looks at her brother and she is starting to get frustrated.
“Tempe please?.” Russ asks.
Bones plays the answering machine.
Voice on Answering Machine:
“Temperance, you and your brother need to go to 4 Privet Drive,Little Whinging, Surrey, as it's really important and I'm sorry that I can't tell you more but the clues that I will be leaving will help you figure out why but I need you to not tell anyone,only your FBI husband may know but please know that me and your mother kept this from you to protect you both.
Please go now, but you need to be careful as you are going to be dealing with dangerous people along the way.” Max says.
The answering machine ends.
“Why Privet Drive,Little Whinging, Surrey and where the hell is that anyway?.” Russ asks.
“It's in the United Kingdom near London, me and Bones were there for a case a few months ago.” Booth says.
“But why that particular place though?.” Russ asks.
“Dad said that he and mum kept something from us to protect us. Maybe they had left something in that country to help them guarantee our safety.” Bones says.
“It would make sense as no-one from the crew would expect your parents to leave America.” Booth says.
Booth knows there's more to what Max was saying and he has a feeling that there may be more to the clues that Max has left.
“You know more don't you?.” Bones asks her husband.
“I suspect something more but I may be wrong.” Booth says.
“What is it you suspect?.” Bones asks.
“I think that you parents are hiding more from you guys and the clues may tell us stuff you guys may not want to hear.” Booth says.
“Well that's a great answer.” Russ says sarcastically.
Booth looks at Russ and the man holds his hands up as if to say sorry.
Bones goes to her laptop and pulls it out of her bag and she logs onto it.
Booth walks over to his wife and he takes a seat next to her and she already has a few sites open that have different prices of different planes to Scotland.
“OK I have a plane leaving in 3 hours and then another plane leaving early in the morning but I would say we get a later plane as we need to ask Angela to look after Parker.” Bones says.
“Amy can look after him as she will be looking after the girls as I'm coming with you guys.” Russ says.
Bones and Booth look at each other and they silently agree as they may need to break a few laws along the way.
“Russ are you sure?.” Bones asks.
“Yes. Amy will understand and she knows how much family means.” Russ says.
“Ok. We still get a later plane.” Bones says.
Booth gets up and he goes into his and Bones bedroom and grabs his phone.
Booth calls Russ's parole officer and tells them that Russ will be leaving the country with him as he needs his help with an investigation.
The parole officer said that's fine and thanked Booth for informing them and hung up.
Booth comes out of the bedroom and he goes back to where Bones is.
“Ive spoken to your parole officer and told them that you will be leaving the country as you are helping with an investigation.” Booth says.
“Thank you.” Russ says.
“Oh don't thank me yet as we are setting ground rules.
If you hurt your sister in any way I will arrest you.
You put your sister in danger or she gets threatened because of you. I'll arrest you.
You do something stupid and your sister gets hurt. I'll arrest you.
Now those are the rules.” Booth says.
Bones looks at her husband and she knows he worries about her and she loves that he cares.
“I'll follow your lead and I promise to act on my best behaviour.” Russ says.
“Ok. Phone Amy and tell her to come straight here and Bones you phone Angela and do the same.” Booth says.
“Why?.” Both Bones and Russ ask.
“If we are going to do what your father says then we need to leave tonight as we may already be in danger.” Booth says.
Bones phones Angela and tells her to bring Parker to the house and Russ phones Amy and tells her the same.
Russ and Amy moved back to D.C a few months ago and Russ has been slowly repairing his relationship with his sister and getting to know his nephew.
An hour later there is a knock at the door and both Amy and Angela walk in.
“It's just us sweetie,” Angela says.
“Russ I'm here as well.” Amy says.
Bones and Russ come and greet them and Parker runs to Bones.
“Hey buddy, why don't you go into the kitchen and make yourself a snack.” Bones says.
“Ok.” Parker says and he goes to the kitchen.
“Sweetie what's going on?.” Angela asks.
“I need you to look after Parker or at least help Amy as things with my parents' case have taken a different turn and we need to leave the country for a little while.” Bones says.
“Russ, are you going with them?.” Amy asks.
“Yeah I am and I know it's not great timing but I need answers.” Russ says.
“Ok but please be careful and listen to Booth.” Amy says.
Amy knows what Russ is like and how he lets his mouth do the talking and he has gotten better but he still has a long way to go.
“Don't worry Amy I've set some ground rules and Russ is going to stick by them.” Booth says and he comes into the hallway.
“Parker, come here please.” Bones shouts out.
Parker comes back into the hallway and he wonders what's going on.
“Sweetheart you are going to be staying with aunt Amy for a little while as me and your dad need to go away for a little bit as we need to close an investigation and your uncle Russ is helping us but we will call you when we can but we won't be gone too long.” Bones says.
Parker has always been told certain things about his parents work and he knows that he can always ask them questions but if they feel like he is not allowed to know things then they tell him but let him know that he is too young but once he is older then they will tell him more.
“Son, go and pack your suitcase and backpack.” Booth says.
Parker goes and does as his dad says and he doesn't grumble.
“How long do you guys think you will be gone for?.” Angela asks.
“A couple of weeks but we don't honestly know.” Booth says.
“Well as long as you guys stay safe.” Amy says.
Amy has been told bits about who Russ and Temperance's parents truly are but she doesn't know all the information unlike Angela and the team.
“Don't worry we will. Now tell the girls I love them and I will try and speak to them when I can.” Russ says.
Parker comes out of his room and he has his suitcase and backpack and both Bones and Booth go and hug him.
“Ok, you be a good boy for your aunt Amy and you listen to her and when your other aunts and uncles pick you up you make sure you are good for them.” Bones says.
“Don't worry mum, I'll be good.” Parker says.
Bones gives her son a kiss on the head and Booth hugs his son and Amy holds out her hand for Parker and the boy takes it and they leave the house.
Angela is confused about what's going on but she won't let her best friend down and she will make sure she takes care of Parker.
Angela goes over and hugs her best friend and she can tell the woman is scared.
“I won't let anything happen to Parker.” Angela says.
“I know but I need you to promise me that if anything happens to us then make sure you find safety?.” Bones asks.
“I promise.” Angela says.
Angela knows that she needs to do what her friend asks and she will do what is asked of her.
Booth hugs Angela and he thanks her for being a good friend and she tells him that if anything happens to Bones she will hurt him and he laughs at that.
Angela goes to leave but she turns around and tells them all to be safe and to come home and she walks out the door.
Bones goes to the laptop and she books the plane and she knows that she is going to need to rely on her fighting skills as they don't know who they are dealing with.
15 minutes later and all three adults leave the house and they only have the bare minimum.
Russ is borrowing Booth's clothes as they didn't have time to grab his things and the FBI only know that Booth and Bones are going away for a few days to Chicago.
Russ looks at his sister and he sees that she has created a life and he may have been 19 when he left but his sister was only 15 and she needed someone and Russ only thought of himself.
“You know I always thought mum and dad were these perfect people but looks like I got that wrong.” Russ says.
“Everyone has a past and people make mistakes; it doesn't mean that they can't change or make up for what they have done.” Booth says.
Russ looks at his brother in law and he knows that he has made a few mistakes in his life and he is trying to be a better person.
A car pulls up and the door opens and Cam steps out of the car.
“Angela called you didn't she?.” Bones asks.
“Yes she did and I don't need any information so get in the car and I'll drive you guys to the airport.” Cam says.
“Cam, thank you so much.” Bones says.
Cam hugs her friend and she doesn't need thanks as they all look out for each other.
“I have your backs. Now you guys have a plane to catch and I'm guessing you guys used one of your undercover identities when booking the plane.” Cam says.
“Yes we did and we used the undercover bank cards as well.” Booth says.
“Good but Russ doesn't have an undercover passport so what are you guys doing about him?.” Cam asks.
“I'm using one that Booth has spare and we made sure that I look like the photo.” Russ says.
Cam looks at Russ and she looks at her two friends and she hopes that their plan works.
Everyone gets in the car and they drive to the airport.
The car pulls up at the airport and the group gets out but Cam stays in the car.
“Good luck guys.” Cam calls out and she drives off.
The group enters the airport and they go and get their tickets and they go through the security checks.
The three of them all pass the security checks and they all hand over their passports and they wait as the security staff check them.
Booth and Bones passports are given back to them but Russ seems to be taking longer and Booth has to decide if he should use his FBI badge.
Before Booth can make a decision Russ gets the passport back.
Russ comes over to Booth and Bones and he looks relieved.
“I was nervous for a moment.” Russ says.
“So we're we.” Bones says.
Booth turns around and he walks towards the plane and Bones and Russ follow.
From the distance Max Keenan watches as his daughter and son get on the plane and he smiles to himself as he knows that they will soon meet their baby brother.
London, United Kingdom.
The plane lands and the group get off and they head to get the luggage and once they have grabbed their bags they go and walk towards the exit.
“Good job we still had British money on us.” Bones says.
“How much do we have?.” Booth asks.
“We have £300 on us.” Bones says.
“Ok, we use cash for now and then we use the undercover bank cards.” Booth says.
“Agreed.” Bones and Russ say.
Once the three of them are out of the airport they look to find where a taxi rank is.
Russ sees a few taxis waiting and he goes over to one of them and asks the driver how much it would be from here to Privet Drive,Little Whinging, Surrey.
The driver can tell Russ is from America but he is polite so he tells him he is looking at between £80 to £100 and Russ says let me check with my fellow passengers.
Russ comes back and he informs Booth and Bones and they think about it but they agree.
The group walk to the taxi that Russ was in and they tell the driver that they will take it and the driver says ok and he asks for the house number and Russ says number 4 and the driver says ok.
The drive to Little Whinging,Surrey only takes them an hour and half and the driver asks if they are on holiday or moving here and Booth says a bit if both and the guy says well they will definitely enjoy the UK but it will be different.
The taxi rounds the corner and they see the sign that says Privet Drive and the driver pulls up at a house and they see the number 4 sign.
The driver says that's £90 and Bones pays the man and they get out and take their bags.
They walk towards the house and the taxi driver drives away.
Arabella Figg is letting out one of her cats and she sees the strangers standing at the Dursleys house.
“They're not in, I'm afraid.” Mrs Figg says.
The three adults look at Mrs Figg and Booth goes over to her.
“Do you know when the people who live here will be back?.” Booth asks.
“I don't know as I think they said they were going on holiday as their son had to go to hospital for a few weeks but that was over the summer.” Mrs Figg says.
“Ok thank you Mrs?.” Booth asks.
“You may call me Mrs Figg.” Mrs Figg says.
“Nice to meet you mam. My name is Tony Scallion and this is my wife Roxy and her brother Bobby Kent.” Booth says.
“Nice to meet you all.” Mrs Figg says.
Bones and Russ wave and smile at Mrs Figg.
“Well we can come back tomorrow and see if someone's in.” Russ says.
“Are you a relative of the Dursleys?.” Mrs Figg asks.
“Yes mam I'm her cousin.” Bones says.
“I think that's best.” Mrs Figg says and she walks back indoors.
Bones,Booth and Russ make sure that Mrs Figg sees them leaving and once out of her sight they sneak around the back.
Russ uses his skills as a criminal and he picks the lock and he opens the backdoor.
All of them enter and they see it's dark so Booth pulls out a flashlight and they start looking around for clues.
Russ pulls out a flashlight of his own and he goes and checks the living room but Booth tells him to keep the flashlight away from the windows and Russ nods and puts the light on low.
Bones already has her flashlight out and she says she will check upstairs.
Booth is left to check the kitchen and he starts with the drawers.
Russ is in the living room and he sees the pictures on the wall and on the fireplace and they are of a man and woman and a boy who changes in different pictures but he doesn't change for the better.
Russ doesn't find much and he is tired of looking at the family in the pictures so he goes and helps Bones.
Booth is not finding much, just the normal stuff that people keep in their drawers and cupboards.
After closing the final drawer Booth decides to check on Russ and Bones.
Booth sees that Russ is not in the living room and so he heads up the stairs.
Booth sees Russ coming out the main bedroom and he shakes his head and Booth knows he didn't find anything.
The two men check the other rooms and nothing and they wonder why Max told them to come to this house.
“I'm starting to think that dad sent us on a wild goose chase.” Russ says.
The door to the last bedroom opens and Bones comes out.
“I found out what mum and dad were keeping from us,” Bones says.
“What is it?.” Russ asks.
Bones shows Russ and Booth a picture and in it is a woman with brown hair and brown eyes and she is holding a baby that is wrapped in a bundle.
Bones turns the picture around and on it says mother and son 1990.

Bones looks up and she sees the shocked faces of Russ and Booth.
