   She scoots closer, “Mike, really, you’re Mike and Will! I’m sure there’s nothing you could do that would make him hate you. You can fix whatever’s going on between you two if you just talk things out.”

   Mike pushes her hand off his shoulder.

   Maybe I should let Nancy hate me too. If she found out it might hurt her less.

   OR

   Mike has an argument with Will which ends with him feeling like he's made everything worse.
   Then he has an argument with Nancy which ends with him believing that maybe everything might be okay.
