Chibi, Dazai's replacement Chuuya

Summary:

Dazai was looking for new ways to annoy Chuuya when he found one abandoned in an alley. Dazai normally dislikes dogs but this little Chihuahua reminds him too much of Chuuya to let go.
Chuuya never thought he would find himself jealous of a dog, but here he was, beefing with an 8 pound glorified purse rat for Dazai's attention.
Mind the tags, I regret nothing.

Chapter Text

The light drizzle of rain made soft patter sounds on the hard pavement. The lights of the street lamps and still open business reflected in the puddles as the night began to turn the sky dark. Alone, a teenager boy grumbled to himself as he turned down a darkened alley.

“Chuuya is a dumb dog!” He angrily muttered, stomping into the little puddles as he made his way towards the abandoned part of the port city in which he lived. “I'm his master, he should be giving me his attention not those stupid flags!” he continued to rant under his breath. The weather did nothing to improve the young boy’s sour mood as he continued down the alley.

The source of his woes began earlier in the day, after long hours working on seemingly endless paperwork that he would normally push onto someone else. It was one of the perks of being the fearsome ‘Demon Prodigy” of the Port Mafia. But alas, his boss was in a sour mood and decided to take it out on him by having him actually do his own paperwork for a change. After all the paperwork was completed and left on his desk for him to turn in late next week as a jab at his boss for actually making him do work, he ran into his work partner. The fiery redhead declined a night at the arcade with him to go spend some time at the bar with his friends. The nerve he has to decline Dazai’s kind offer of going easy on him at the arcade games. Well next time he won’t be so merciful and beat every score the short male had on the leaderboard.

Still grumbling to himself about various plans for vengeance for the other boy’s action, the young man stopped when he heard the faintest noise that wasn’t the patter of rain or his own footsteps. Surly, no one was dumb enough to follow him? Then again, he has many enemies and one was bound to get bold and try gunning for the Port Mafia Boss’s right hand man. Scanning the alley with the eye that wasn’t covered by bandages, Dazai saw nothing out of the ordinary for a back alley on the outskirts of the port city.

Some trash littered the ground, discarded papers, a few boxes here and there. Nothing strange, but then he heard the noise again. Coming from within one of the smaller boxes turned over against the side of the building. Approaching the box, Dazai kicked it over, revealing what was underneath. A grimace formed on the boy’s face.

There, staring up at him as it was nuzzled up in a crumpled up newspaper was a small dog. An extremely tiny, little dog. He had a strong dislike for dogs. Judging by its size it was still a puppy. A tiny annoying little puppy. It looked up at him and then had the audacity to growl at him. This tiny little thing, with its slightly long, light tan fur with gingery spots on its head, ears, and down its back had the audacity to growl at him.

It reminded him of his partner Nakahara Chuuya. Looking closer at the small creature, he noticed it has two different colored eyes, just like his partner does. One brown, one blue, both glaring at him. They stared at each other for a bit, neither wanting to break eye contact in this little contest. A plan forming in the young boy’s head. His lips pulled into a small. A twinkle of pure mischief in his eyes. The perfect way to annoy Chuuya.

Since this little dog reminded him so much of his partner, he decided he would take it in. He will train it to be the perfect little partner and show Chuuya how a good dog is supposed to behave. Oh yes, it was a fool proof plan and hopefully Chuuya would have enough brain cells to learn from this little dog how to act. Being led by example so to speak.

Scooping the small dog up in his arms, Dazai let out a laugh. It tried to bite his fingers till it got comfortable in his arms. So snippy, just like Chuuya. After getting a closer look at the dog, Dazai could clearly tell the breed of the dog. It was a little chihuahua. The perfect small dog to replicate Chuuya in size. He was half tempted to name the dog Chuuya but that would get too confusing.

Thinking for a moment, Dazai pondered on a name as he turned around, walking away from the direction of the shipment yard. He was going to take over one of the boss’s penthouses for his own use. Dogs were known for just eating random things off the ground. He couldn’t have his little replacement Chuuya getting sick from the waste near his shipping container. No, he had to show people he was a responsible dog owner and Chuuya was an ungrateful short dog who took him for granted.

The perfect name hit him. Chibi. It was the perfect name for the tiny Chuuya replacement. Both to make fun of the human Chuuya and to address the dog’s small stature. Yes! Yes, Chibi was the perfect name! Chibi was going to be the best dog too! Dazai Osamu would train him to be the best, no doubt about it.

“From this day forward, your name is Chibi,” he told the little pup, “Be grateful Chibi, I am a great dog owner so you're in the best hands!” The small pup let out a little yip at him as he patted its head. “That’s right! Show gratitude, I’m going to make you the greatest dog ever! Everyone will be jealous, even other dogs will wish they had your owner, isn’t that nice Chbi?” Another little bark came from the dog as Dazai turned a corner towards a large up class building.

“This will be our new home!” the young boy exclaimed as he made his way to the elevators as he passed the front desk. Taking out the proof of residence and keys, showing it to security as he passed them by. He enjoyed having made copies of his boss’s keys to some of his living arrangements. Mori, as Port Mafia boss, has plenty of places he could go live. Dazai was claiming this penthouse for him and Chibi. He would tell the man in the morning, maybe even introduce him to Chibi while he was at it. But first, Chibi was in dire need of a bath and some food. Plus Dazai had a lot of shopping with Mori’s credit card to do tonight.

Dazai smiled to himself. This definitely beat a night at the arcade.
