Tea and Hair ties

Summary:

Short and sweet scenario about Cream being Sonic's hairstylist.

Notes:

Written this back in July because I thought the fanart of Cream styling other characters' hair was cute. Nothing more than that.

Work Text:

Afternoons are often a good time to have tea with friends, Cream had invited the blue blur for just that and the hedgehog happily offered his time to hang out with the young girl and her chao. It wasn’t often he gets to her but she is always delighted for when he visits. He’s always a lot of fun to be around and knows how to brighten the mood, while the same can be said about Cream.

“And in the heat of the moment, when the doc thought he had the upper hand, I swiftly turned the tables by knocking them all out with ease! Then they went boom!” Sonic exclaimed as he was reenacting one of his battles by kicking and punching the air to give off more immersion. Cream inattentively listens, she inspires to be like him one day, a hero with a heart of gold who helps others in need and stops the bad guys from causing harm.

That is to say that she can’t be one now, but her mother says that she’s too young to be on the battlefield with Sonic and his friends and that should worried about being a child for now, Sonic also agreed with the idea when Cream brought it up to him. But for now, she can be in line for the smaller battles if she desires to and join the more extravagant ones once she’s older.

“That was so cool of you Mr. Sonic!” She remarked in astonishment, as she was enamoured by the tale and gave the blue blur around of applause by the time he was done, Cheese cheered alongside her.

“All in a day’s work.” The older replied as he bows from the praise. “Now how about we have tea now?” Sonic placed himself back into the reality of Cream’s backyard and dusted off his hands as he sat himself across from her at the small tea table she had set up before hand.

“Well today, we have jasmine tea, and mother has made some biscuits and sandwiches for us and-” Cream stopped herself midway as she looked up to Sonic and noticed something a little off about him and giggled, the older only glanced at her curiously.

“What’s the matter, Cream?”

“Your quills are a mess!” The young girl pointed out, she proceeded to take the plates of a metallic tray that they were placed on and brought it up to him to show his reflection. “See?!”

Sonic turned his head around a bit to get a good look at what the girl was on about. Some of his blue quills were out of place and can spot two or leaves hidden beneath them. He suppose his quills are a bit messier than usual, though it’s not something he worries about. After all, you gotta get messy if you’re constantly saving the world on a regular basis, not to mention he’s always one to not stay stationed in one place for long periods of time too.

“What do you suppose we do about it?” He responded, deciding to go along with the girl’s concerns.
“Can I style them?!” Cream asked with excitement in her eyes. “Please?” She added in almost forgetting her manners. The rabbit then looked down and bashfully continued. “I always do Ms. Amy’s whenever I’m allowed, but the most that I can manage to do is add bows and flowers, your colour is also very nice too.”

Supposedly it wouldn’t hurt, Sonic doesn’t like the idea of being pampered, at most he will only do the necessities of maintaining them just so they wouldn’t get out of hand and be used for battle. But if it will make her happy...

“Sure.” He answered nonchalantly and gave her a smile and thumbs up of approval. The other quickly brightens up from the permission.

“You stay here, and I’ll go get my stuff!” Cream said and ecstatically ran into her home to grab her little kit of bows, hair ties, and combs. In the meantime, Sonic is left playing with Cheese while waiting for her as the tea slowly goes cold.

“I’m back!” Cream came out of the house with her styling supplies and presented a selection of bow colors for Sonic to choose from; he went with red. The girl gleefully proceeded to start brushing out quills, careful not to harm herself in the procedure.

“You seem to know what you’re doing.” Sonic remarked, noticing how cautious the younger one was with handling them.

“Uh huh! Though Ms. Amy’s is more softer than yours.” She began parting his quills so she can tie them. “Though yours are a lot sharper too... like... cactus!” Sonic chuckled at the comparison.
“Not the weirdest thing I’ve been compared to, though don’t tell Tails this, but when he was younger he wanted a piggy back rid from me and we both found out the hard way how that turned out. His face was covered in quills, he was fine but it took us a bit to pull them all out” He smiled from the amusement of the memory, after the event he had to carry the fox in his arms if he couldn’t walk. Thankfully that is something that doesn’t happen often. Cream giggled at the story.

“Oh poor Mr. Tails. I’m glad he was ok in the end.” She began tying locks of Sonic’s quills into a ponytail and weaved in a few bows.

“Yeah, kid’s tough- Hhrgh!” She accidentally pulled on some quills too hard, making them raise slightly.

“Sorry Mr. Sonic.”

“No worries, didn’t hurt yourself, did ya?” Sonic asked while his eyes looked back to see if the girl had pricked herself. Wouldn’t want that now.

“Uh no, my glove snagged on one but I’m alright.” She answered gleefully and then proceeded to run in front of him and presented a hand mirror. “I’m done!”

The older took the mirror in his hand to get a better look at himself. Sonic had a ponytail coming out of the left and right side of his head respectively and also saw that Cream had manged to wrapped the red ribbons along the rest of his quills as well as picking out the leaves from earlier.
He had to admit, it was pretty cute. Sonic gave the younger a pat on the head.

“Nice job Cream!” The rabbit smiled widely from the praise.

“You like it?!”

“Yeah I do! I’ll go to you if I need a hair stylist, next time.” Which he doesn’t, but it the thought that counts right? “Now how about we have that tea now?” Sonic suggested, the other nodded.
“Oh yeah! AH! The tea must’ve gone cold.” She remembered and disappointingly looked at the older apologetically. Sonic in response got up, grabbed the now cold tea pot and put a hand on her back.

“It’s fine, things like that happen. Now how about I help you make a new batch and get on with our little party?” He told her in a reassuring tone and prompted themselves to go back to the Rabbit’s household to do just that.

For the rest of the day they had their little tea party, and received half joking compliments when Sonic got back to see Tails.
