Chapter Text
Nami Kirisame was known for many things. Her fiery personality, her obsession with tangerines, her odd friend group, or her notorious thievery.
She had once only had Robin and Vivi as friends, with the Gap Yokai liking to bother the Magician and the Shrine Maiden, and the three developing a friendship. Then Zoro and Kuina had stolen spring, and Vivi had stopped them, befriending the two of them.
Then Chopper and his moon friends had made an eternal night. Of course, Robin, Vivi, Nami and Zoro had stopped the little creature, and also become friends with him. Then there was the incident with Usopp and his shrine, which had been resolved.
Nami had a lot of friends, most of them causing trouble for the Magician and the Shrine Maiden at some point.
Nami was sure that she'd meet someone new soon, it had been months since Usopp had befriended their group. She was currently floating around on her broom, relaxing for once. Of course, people were trying to bother her, with the news girl Hancock following her that entire morning, nagging her about something.
"Nami! It's important!" The dark haired girl yelled at the ginger. Nami sighed and looked back at Hancock, who looked peeved. She raised her eyebrow, questioning what the girl had to say.
"Nami, look across the lake!" She said, pointing across misty lake. Nami turned her broom and her eyes widened. A giant red mansion sat on the opposite shore line, which hadn't been there last time Nami had been to the misty lake.
"When the hell did that get there?!" Nami yelped in surprise. Hancock shook her head in exasperation.
"I'm not sure. I saw it yesterday evening though. Whoever owns it must be powerful and wealthy. It might be dangerous." Hancock said. She said other things, too, but Nami wasn't registering what the girl was saying to her. She had stopped listening at 'wealthy.'
"Say, do you think I could get some of their things without anybody noticing?" Nami said, interrupting the news girl. She stared at Nami, and shook her head.
"When I tried going to the house, it never seemed to get closer by flight. And when I approached the front gate, the guard acted very strange." Hancock explained the the magician. Nami raised her eyebrow and shrugged.
"Like I'd be scared of a single security guard. Plus, if I go to the gate and then up to the windows, I'll reach there in no time!" Nami laughed, readying her broom. Hancock sighed again in defeat.
"Alright. Have fun over there! Don't die." Hancock waved as Nami already started racing away. Nami was speeding across the lake, approaching the mansion quickly. It's reflection looked like blood in the lake.
"Nami Kirisame, fight me!" A voice yelled. Nami screeched to a halt and looked towards the voice. It was Monet, the resident ice fairy. Another fairy, Rebecca was trying to get the ice fairy to stop.
"No." Nami said, before flying off again. Behind her an indignant yell came from the ice fairy. Nami didn't care though, that wasn't why she was at misty lake right now. She saw the mansion getting very close at this point.
She approached the gate of the mansion, seeing nobody there. Wasn't there supposed to be a guard? Nami laughed. This was going to be easy! She flew her broom up to the window and opened it. It creaked open onto darkness. She stepped inside the very. dark hallway, the window staying cracked open.
The place was very medevial feeling, with candle holders lining the walls, and a red carpet stretching down the hallway. Nami felt slightly creeped out. It felt like it would be the kind of place were ghosts would congregate.
She stepped down the halls, making sure to not make too much sound. She didn't want to be caught. Not that she would be. A Nami wandered, she realized that the mansion seemed strangely empty. There was the occasional large room or set of armor, but no people in sight.
The halls she walked down felt like a maze meant to trap someone, adding to Namis unease. She could find her way out, she was smart, had a good memory, and was known for her excellent navigation skills.
She turned around a corner to see a set of narrow stairs leading down into darkness. This creeped her out, with an aura of anger and sadness emanating from the darkness below. She debated with herself whether to go down or not.
"Maybe its where the money is kept?" She whispered to herself. This thought decided for her, and Nami stepped down the first step. Her shoe clacked down on stone, which echoed loudly through the empty halls. She froze, waiting for someone to attack her from the shadows.
But nobody came, so Nami continued down the steps, which seemed to wind down into the ground. There was no way the mansion was tall enough for the stairs to still be above ground.
The steps ended, and she found herself in front of a large wooden door, carved with intracate patterns. The lock glimmered dimly, despite it being practically pitch black. Nami put her hand on the door nob and turned it, opening the door.
Nami entered the room, seeing that is was completely ransacked. Dolls that looked like they hadn't been touched in quite a long time were impaled with daggers. Pillows were torn apart on the ground and furniture was knocked over, the contents spilling out of drawers. A mirror was shattered in the rooms corner.
"Oh, geez." Nami whispered to herself as she tentatively crossed the room. On the far side of the room stood a lavish bed covered in soft pillows and blankets. She wondered if the rooms inhabitant was sleeping there.
The magician looked over the bed, and realized that nobody was there. She felt her heart rate spike. That meant that the person who lived here was either in the mansion somewhere, or in the room with her.
A dim light flickered on, and a voice rang out through the destroyed room.
"Who are you?"
Nami whipped around to see a figure standing in the darkness. It was a boy, who looked about 11 years old from what Nami could see. He was hugging a teddy bear tightly.
His outfit was somewhat odd. He wore a white undershirt and a red vest, with a small orange cravat in the front. His pants were the same red material, with a white stripe around the edge, with the waistline having a ribbon going through it. A large white bow from the ribbon hung from the back of his pants. He had a white hat that looked like the kind of thing you'd wear to bed.
What stood out most, though, were the wings that sprouted from his back. It looked like symmetrical tree branches had grown from the child's back, each wing having 8 different colored crystals hanging off.
"I said, who are you?" The boy repeated as he walked forward, breaking Nami out of her trance. He walked up right in front of her, and stared into Namis amber eyes. His eyes were the color of blood and slitted like a cats. His canines were sharp, that of a vampires. Nami realized he was waiting for an answer to his question.
"Uh, I'm Nami Kirisame! I'm an explorer and thief!" She stated proudly. The boys face lit with interest at her statement. He backed up a bit, giving her space now.
"An adventurer? Does that mean you've been outside?" He asked excitedly. Nami nodded confused.
"Yeah? Have you never been outside, kid?" She asked. The boy looked down at the floor sadly. His lip wavered a bit at the question. He looked up again, his expression unreadable.
"Luffy."
"What?"
"Luffy. That's my name, I'm not 'kid'. And no, I've never been outside. Can you tell me about it?" He responded quietly. Nami stared for a second, before nodding her head.
"Yeah, I can tell you about outside! The sky is really blue, like that crystal on your wing. The clouds are puffy and white, like a soft pillow. The grass... " Nami talked for a while, trying to use things in the room to explain how things looked or felt. As she talked, she watched the young vampires face light up at her stories.
"You should listen to some of the stories my friend Usopp tells! They are much more exciting than mine." Nami said to the boy once she had described as much as she could.
"I-I can't. My older siblings might get mad, though I wouldn't care about that, but..." Luffy said after a pause. He seemed sad about it.
"Don't you wanna leave? It seems kinda boring down here..." Nami asked the boy. He clenched up his fists in anger, and his face contorted into anger...but also...desperation. Tears started to bud in his eyes.
"Of course I do! I hate this room more than anything! It's like my own person prison!" Luffy yelled, his cat-like pupils pinpricks and his red eyes burning. Tears streamed down his face as he yelled.
"So, why don't you?" Nami asked, wanting the vampire boy to stand up for himself. His small outburst subsided, and Luffys arms dropped to his sides. His face was shadowed, and he bit his lip.
"It's just... I really CAN'T." He said quietly. Something glinted in the dim lighting and suddenly Nami saw the problem.
Luffy had his hands cuffed to chains that led to the far end of the room, making it impossible for him to reach the door. She hadn't noticed them in the dim lighting, as they were near black. She walked over to the chains and picked them up. She felt a pulse of magic run through her.
The chains were enchanted. Luckily, Nami knew how to break the spell on them. She stood up, and turned to the vampire.
"I can help you, if you want!" She declared, raising her fist in determination. Luffy stared for a second.
"Would you?!" he asked, rushing forward with a pleading look on his face. His hands clasped together and the chains clinked together. Nami smiled.
"Yep! Now put your chains on this table." She instructed the boy. He nodded and yanked the black chains onto the wooden surface. Nami looked around for something she could use, her eye catching a decorative axe.
The Magician took the axe from the wall and set it down. She laced her hands with a spell, and dragged it across the axe, which started glowing purple.
"Alright! Now, step back!" She said as she lifted the axe above her head. The boy leaned back, and the ginger swung the axe with her full body, splitting not only the chains, but the table as well.
The chains had been shattered where the axe had made contact, freeing Luffy from the wall. He looked down at the pieces of chain falling from the few links that still connected to his cuffs. He blinked. He was free. He was finally free.
He grinned, all his teeth showing. He twirled around, the crystals hanging off his wings glinting in the dim light of his room. Nami laughed loudly as he spun around giggling. He suddenly stopped and turned to face something. He ran over to a corner of his room and grabbed an umbrella that looked the same as the outfit he was wearing, red with white stripes as well as a frill around the edge.
"Miss Kirisame! You're a thief, right? You can have any treasure that's in my room if you want! Please just take me outside now!" Luffy said excitedly. Namis eyes grew wide, and she nodded quickly.
"Just give me a moment to get the valuables, then I promise to take you outside." She grinned. The boy nodded and watched her take all the stupid shiny things Ace, Sabo and Uta had given him over the years. He was honestly happy to have them gone.
Nami turned to the boy and nodded, signaling for him to follow her. She opened his door and marched up the stairs, with Luffy following behind her with his umbrella.
Nami looked down the hallway, making sure nobody was there. She smiled and started scampering down the hallway, the sound of crystalline wings clinking behind her, signaling that her new friend was still there.
She followed the path she had taken to get to Luffys room, her memory not betraying her once. She turned a corner and found the still open window in front of her.
"Alright Luffy, open your umbrella and get on my broom!" She whispered to the boy, who nodded. They both walked over the window, and Nami opened it up again, with Luffy shielding himself with his umbrella.
Nami positioned herself on the broom, letting Luffy climb on behind her.
"Hold on tight!" she said. Luffy got on and secured the umbrella in his arms. She jumped out the window, her broom going down a little due the extra person, before she sped away from the mansion.
Luffy didn't say anything as they glided across the lake, just looking at everything and taking it all in. He looked like he was going through many complicated emotions.
As Nami landed on the grassy banks of the lake, Luffy got off and fell into the greenery, just watching the clouds go by from under the umbrella. Nami felt bad that he couldn't exist in the sunlight without burning.
"Wow...it's better than I ever would have guessed from your descriptions." Luffy whispered. He'd never been outside of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. He couldn't even remember the last time he'd been out of his room.
"I hope Ace, Sabo and Uta don't get worried. They might be if I suddenly disappear." He continued, making Nami freeze.
Oh no. She had messed up. Luffy had older siblings who kept him locked in a room with enchanted chains for his supposed safety, and then she had come into that room, broken those chains, and taken all the valuables.
"AHH! I'm so dead!" She yelled suddenly. Luffy looked very at her in confusion.
"It will look like I kidnapping you, at least to your siblings! They will have no mercy..." She cryed. Luffy stared at her for a second before also dawning a look of horror on his face.
"If they catch us, than both of us are in trouble! I'll be locked up for good, and who know what'll happen to you!" He screeched. The both of them were now panicking.
"You two have gotten yourselves into quite a bit of trouble, haven't you?" A voice said. Luffy jumped and looked around in confusion when he didn't see anybody. Nami, on the other hand, whipped around.
"Robin! Please help us!" Nami cried to the woman, who had now emerged from one of the gaps she could make. The Gap Yokai laughed a little before speaking.
"Of course. Should I contact the others?" Robin asked her dear friend, who nodded. Robin was slightly amused by the twos panic. If the vampire boy simply explained the situation, his siblings would likely understand.
"Alright. Let's meet at the Hakurei shrine." Robin said before disappearing. Nami nodded at that. All of her friends would know where that was, even Zoro. Nami hopped on her broom, getting ready to travel to the shrine.
Luffy climbed on behind her, and the two lifted off.
The trees blurred under them as they sped across the Gensokyo Line. The ocean suddenly flashed underneath them as they headed to the nearby island with the Hakurei shrine, where Vivi stayed. Luffy looked nervous, and held the umbrella tightly.
"Miss Kirisame, do you think I could fall off?" He asked.
"Oh yeah, when I first started I fell off all the time. Don't worry though, if you fall I'll catch you. Don't you have wings though?" Nami replied. Luffy stared for a second before looking at the crystalline wings on his back.
"I do, but I don't know if I can fly. The chains magic stopped me from trying, and since part of them is still on, the magic is still there. " The vampire admitted. Nami nodded. If the magic was still in his cuffs, he'd just have to travel with Nami until they could remove them.
"Well, once we meet up with everyone, I'll work with Usopp to take your cuffs off, ok?" She spoke to him. The boy exhaled in relief at that.
Nami sailed over the beaches of the island with the Hakurei shrine. She could see the structure if she looked hard enough into the distance. Luffy was trying to look over her shoulder to see if could see anything. The land was forested, and there were little streams dotting the visible landscape.
Nami curves her broom down, heading towards the quickly approaching shrine. She could already see here friends gathered there expectantly.
The boy on the back of her broom seemed nervous. He'd probably never seen so many people in his life at once. Nami approached the ground and stopped, hovering a few feet off the ground so the two could get off.
"Alright, we're here now, Luffy!"
- Scarlet Devil Mansion-
"Hey, Ace? Could you take Luffy his food? I think hes probably getting hungry." A girls voice called out. Another person called back to her.
"I can do that! Let me go see what Sanjis made for us!" The new person answered from another room. The man walked out, wearing his blue outfit.
He walked down the halls and into the kitchen, where a tray with food on it was placed. Just as always. He grabbed the tray and took it from the counter, and headed towards the small staircase that led to his little brothers room.
"I hope he's doing ok. I would hate to see something happen to Luffy when we couldn't protect him." Ace said to himself, approaching the long and winding stairs.
