Work Text:

Shane sighs with frustration as he silently sits in the front seat of the car, getting more aggravated the more they have to sit in traffic and wait for someone to move. He glances over at his step-son in the seat beside him. “We might have to get out and walk, Glenn,”

This earns Glenn’s attention. “Wh- What? No, we can’t-“

“We’ve been sitting here for over an hour, and we haven’t moved an inch. Literally. We’re going to have to walk, and find somewhere to stay for the night,” Shane argues.

“B- But, what if we don’t find somewhere to stay?” Glenn asks with worry, frowning. “I- I mean, we’re going to be trapped if we leave the car!”

“I don’t know where we’re going to stay. See, look. People are getting out of their cars and walking,” Shane says, and points to the people who are passing by their car. “Okay. We’ll hike up, away from the city for a little bit to avoid the traffic. I know this isn’t exactly what you wanted, and I’m real sorry we couldn’t wait for your little boyfriend, but our safety comes first over him. Grab your bag. We’re walking from here on out.” He turns the car off, and gets out of the car.

Glenn sits there for a second, before sighing with frustration. He grabs his bag from the back, and pushes the car door open, getting out of the car. He looks over and sees Shane grabbing some stuff from the back. They didn’t have a whole lot of time to grab everything they wanted, but they made sure to grab some necessities.

“Do you really think it’s as bad as they say?” Glenn asks when Shane walks over to him.

Shane sighs. “I think it’s…” He stops. “Look, you ain’t a little kid. You’re an adult, and I’m not going to lie to you, kid. There was… a lot of talk at the police station before they finally started evacuating the city-” He starts walking, following the other families. “So, I’ll be honest with you, It’s not looking good right now.”

“It’s not looking good?” Glenn repeats. “So… we’re doomed?”

“I wouldn’t say-”

“Shane, you said you wouldn’t lie to me,” Glenn argues.

“Hey, what’d I say about you calling me that?” Shane warns lightly, and he looks at Glenn. “Anyways. I know. I promise I’m not going to lie to you. I don’t know how bad it’s gonna get. I just know it ain’t looking good.”

“We don’t even know where we’re going, and I’m probably never going to see Daryl again,” Glenn mumbles. “I should have left him a note. Or- or something.”

“I’m sorry about that Glenn, really, but we had to get out of there before we would have been trapped,” Shane says. “We’ll be fine. As long as you and I stick together.

“I know,” Glenn mumbles, and he looks down as he continues following Shane.

Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as Glenn hoped it would be to find somewhere safe. They hop from building to house to wherever they can find in order to stay safe. Glenn has already seen the videos. He knows that the “zombies” are real. If they go into the city, then it certainly won’t be safe for them, because he knows that the city is crawling with those things. Glenn wants to stay as far away from them as possible.

The two of them travel for about two months before they finally find a quarry camp. It’s small, and luckily there aren’t many people so it’s easy for them to hide, but they welcome Shane and Glenn instantly, and promise they’ll be safe with them as long as they help around the camp and do their part.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Shane, and this is my step-son, Glenn,” Shane introduces the two of them to a couple of the people who have been living at the camp. “We can’t thank you enough for the help. We’ve been wandering for months.”

“Like I said. As long as you two do your part, then you’re more than welcome,” the man says. Dale , Glenn thinks his name is. He seems like a nice, old man.

“I’m fast on my feet,” Glenn says. “Maybe I could make some trips to the city, and-”

“There ain’t no way you’re going to the city by yourself,” Shane is quick to argue.

“But I know the city like the back of my hand,” Glenn argues back, crossing his arms angrily against his chest. “You know I do, and we’re going to need supplies eventually, right? I’m not a little kid. I can be careful.”

“We have walkies that work. Glenn could take one with him,” Dale adds.

“See?” Glenn says. “And, I don’t always need you telling me what to do. I’m twenty-two, not five, and I know how to hold my own out there. Believe it or not.”

Shane sighs as he stares at Glenn, wanting to keep arguing with him, but he knows that it’s pointless, because Glenn does have a point. He’s an adult, not a kid. Shane, however, feels the need to want to protect him at all times, because he made a promise to his mother before she died that he would, and Shane intends to keep that promise.

“Fine. Alright. I’ll give you one chance to prove yourself that you can do it on your own, but if anything happens while you’re out there, then you ain’t going back there.”

Glenn sighs in relief. “Fine. I’ll take it,”

“And you? Do you have any special skills?” The blonde woman asks, nodding at Shane.

“Well. I’m a police officer. I don’t know if that helps any,” Shane tells her. “Or, I was .”

“That could be very helpful indeed,” Dale says. “Welcome to the camp, gentlemen.”

Turns out, there are a few familiar faces at the camp. Glenn, of course, doesn’t really know them that well, but there’s a mother and her young son that Shane knows well, and was thrilled about seeing. Glenn knows he’s talked about them before.

“Shane!” The woman exclaims, running up and hugging him tightly. “You’re alive!”

“‘Course I’m alive, Lori. You have such little faith in me?” Shane jokes, and pulls away, and then he makes sure to greet the boy. “Hey Carl. You been good for your mom?”

“I’m always good!” The little boy exclaims.

“That’s debatable,” Lori says, smiling softly at the boy, Carl, before she looks back at Shane. “Shane, we- we had to leave him back there-” The smile on Shane’s face instantly fades, because he knows who Lori is talking about. “We had no other choice-”

“He was in a coma, Lori,” Shane whispers. “The odds weren’t looking good in his favor, anyways. I’m not mad at you for leaving him. I’m glad you put yourself first.”

“Doesn’t make me feel any less guilty about leaving him, not knowing if he’s…”

“Don’t,” Shane warns, pointing a gentle finger at Lori. “Do not do that to yourself, Lori.” He hesitates, and then he looks over at Glenn, who’s watching them curiously. Shane clears his throat. “Lori, uh… remember Glenn? Sharlenne’s kid. You met her once before. Before she…” He instantly stops, knowing better than to talk about Glenn’s mother’s death in front of the kid. It’s still fresh in his mind, and neither of them like talking about her death. “This is Glenn, my step-son.”

“Glenn, hi. Yes. Nice to meet you,” Lori steps forward, and shakes hands with Glenn. “I’m Lori. Rick’s wife. I’m sure you met him. He was Shane’s best friend, co-worker. This is my son, Carl.”

“Yes, I remember him. Never met him, but I’ve heard a lot about him. Hi,” Glenn says, and clears his throat. “Nice to meet you. Well, see you again. I remember you too.”

Lori smiles. “It’s a small world, huh?” She looks over at Shane. “We ended up in the same camp after… everything. It’s nice to have a familiar face around here.”

“So, uh… what do you guys do for food around here?” Shane asks.

“Oh, we have some snacks and things lying around. If you’re hungry, I can grab you something. We also have a guy out huntin’ right now. He’s usually gone all day and doesn’t really come back with a lot but a couple of squirrels or maybe rabbits. It helps. He’ll be back in a couple of hours. Although, I’d recommend staying away from him and his brother. They can be… a little scary. Nobody around here likes them.”

Shane can’t help but snort. “ Scary ? That sounds…”

“Trust me,” Lori says, giving Shane a pointed look. “We all appreciate when he’s gone. It’s much quieter around here. Less drama.”

Glenn raises his eyebrows, but he doesn’t say anything. He’s certainly grateful when Lori hands him and Shane a couple of Granola bars. It’s been hard to find food the past two months, since everything’s already been taken in every place they’ve been at.

“I think I should go for a supply run in the morning,” Glenn says, later that night when they’re about getting ready for bed. “I know you probably want me to wait, but I’d like to get a feel for the city, and make sure I know where I’m going. Map the place out.”

Shane sighs as he stares at Glenn, but to Glenn’s surprise, he nods in agreement. “Okay, but you make sure to have a walkie with you. You got your knife for protection?”

Glenn nods. “It’s in my backpack,”

“Good. Keep that with you at all times. If you’re going to go tomorrow, then you should head to bed and try to get some rest for the night. Oh, and Dale says that you can sleep in the camper for the night. I’ll stay in the tent,”

“Okay,” Glenn says. “I’ll see you in the morning.” He starts walking towards the camper, where he finds Andrea on top of the camper, keeping watch. Dale’s beside her.

“Headin’ to bed, kid?” Dale calls down when he spots Glenn approaching the camper.

“Yeah. I’m gonna go for a supply run in the morning. Should try to get some sleep. Uh, thanks again for letting me use the camper. I really appreciate it,” Glenn says.

“It’s no worries. Get some rest now,”

Glenn can’t help but smile a little, relieved that these people are so nice and willing to help him and Shane. They don’t know each other, and they’re definitely not obligated to help them at all. “Thanks, I appreciate it,” he says, before opening the door and climbing into the camper. Glenn climbs into bed. As soon as his head hits the pillow, he falls into a heavy sleep. It’s the first time he’s properly slept since they left.

Glenn sleeps for a solid eight hours before he’s woken up by Shane. It’s morning time, which means Glenn has to get up and get ready to go to the city for a supply run.

Glenn doesn’t waste any time, he gathers his things and says goodbye to Shane.

“That boy seems real sure of himself,” Dale says as he stands beside Shane, as they watch Glenn trek down the hill towards the city. Dale looks over at Shane, curious. “You don’t seem too worried about him?”

“Oh, I am worried, but Glenn’s a smart kid and knows how to look after himself,” Shane says, not taking his eyes off Dale. “He knows the city quite well.” He looks over at Dale. “He used to be a pizza delivery boy, so he drove around a lot.”

Dale nods. “He seems smart. We appreciate him going out there.”

“Yeah,” Shane mumbles, and he lets out a sigh, before he remembers Lori mentioning about a hunter for food. “Where’s that hunter you were talking about last night?”

“Oh yes. Well, sometimes he takes a little longer. It will probably be a couple days before we see him again. He doesn’t like coming back with nothing,” Dale informs him.

Shane hums in understandment. “That’s awful kind of him,”

Kind ,” Dale mutters. “I don’t think there’s a kind bone in that man’s body.”

Shane raises his eyebrows, because that’s the second time someone has talked bad about this supposed hunter. Shane’s interested in meeting him. That’s for sure.

Later on, Shane is by the radio with a few of the others, trying to help get in contact with people. The radio works well enough, and people around the camp have been trying to get a hold of people with it. Shane wants to make himself useful while he waits for Glenn’s return. He needs a distraction from worrying about the kid.

“Dixon’s back!”

Shane’s head snaps up when he hears Andrea shouting.

“Jesus Christ, woman, why don’t you announce it to the whole damn world?” It’s an all too familiar voice that Shane was sure he wouldn’t hear again.

“There’s no way,” Shane can’t help himself from saying out loud.

“What was that, Shane?” Shane hears Dale asking him. “You alright?”

Shane watches in shock as he sees none other than Daryl Dixon walking into the camp with a couple of dead squirrels in his hands. Daryl Dixon . Someone Shane was hoping he’d never have to see again, despite the fact that he was Glenn’s boyfriend, someone Glenn loved deeply. Shane never liked Daryl Dixon or his brother Merle. Merle was the worst of the two of them. Daryl wasn’t as bad, but Shane still didn’t like him.

Shane never understood why Glenn fell in love with someone like Daryl. He’s a redneck, and he’s the complete opposite of Glenn. He’s older than Glenn too, which Shane never liked either. However, Daryl was very unlike his brother. He wasn’t racist and didn’t call Glenn slurs because he was Korean. He stood up for Glenn and protected him, showing him that he cared about him.

Still, Shane never liked Daryl Dixon. Especially as a police officer. He’s been dealing with the Dixon brothers for many years, even before Glenn started dating him.. Shane doesn't think, however, that Daryl is “scary” like these people have been saying.

Daryl walks over and places the squirrels on one of the logs, and then he looks up and locks eyes with Shane immediately. The two stare at each other for a moment. Shane already knows what Daryl is thinking. “He alive?”

Shane sighs, before finally nodding his head yes, because even though he doesn’t like Daryl, he knows how much Daryl cares for Glenn and it would be cruel to lie to him. “Alive and well,”

“Spit it out, Walsh. Where the hell is he?” Daryl demands.

“He’s not here at the moment. He’s doing a supply run for the group,” Shane tells him. “Went to the city. He’ll be back-”

“What the hell? You let him go to the city alone ?” Daryl asks with anger. “The city is crawling with those things! The hell is wrong with you, man?”

“It was his choice, Daryl. He’s a grown adult who can make his own choices. He wanted to go, and he certainly wasn’t going to let me stop him from going,” Shane argues. “Glenn will be fine. Besides, he’s got his weapons and a walkie.”

“Hold on a second. How do you two know each other? He knows Glenn?”

“I don’t think that’s any of your business, old man,” Daryl replies snappily.

“Relax, Dixon. He was just asking a damn question,” Shane warns, glaring at Daryl, and then he turns to Dale, raising his eyebrows. “I know Dixon quite well. Trust me when I say that he’s all talk, no bite. Unlike his brother, who might actually bite. Speaking of. Don’t tell me Merle Dixon is here.” He looks back at Daryl.

“He’s ‘round, but he don’t like stayin’ at the camp with these people,” Daryl says.

“We certainly mind when Merle Dixon isn’t around,” Dale says, scoffing.

“Hey. Careful how you speak, old man. Merle’s an asshole, but he’s still my brother,” Daryl warns, before letting out a curse, and he storms away, clearly unhappy to learn about Glenn. They’ve been separated for months. Shane can’t blame him.

Dale blinks, and he looks over at Shane. “You know Daryl Dixon?”

“Yes, unfortunately. I do know the Dixon brothers,” Shane says, sighing. “Let’s just say, when you’re a police officer, you deal with the Dixon brothers quite often.”

“And Glenn?” Dale asks, raising his eyebrows. “Dixon seemed…”

“I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to talk about my step-son’s relationship when he’s not around to defend himself. You have any questions, you ask him. However, it’s unlikely he’ll give any answers about his personal life,” Shane says. “Now, come on. Let’s get back to the radio. I think we were getting somewhere.”

It’s about an hour later when a walkie starts going off.

Dale is quick to grab the walkie. “Hey Shane! You might want to get over here. Glenn, that you? Glenn, come in. You’ll have to go again. We can’t hear you.”

Shane hurries over to Dale. “What is it? Is that Glenn?”

“I think it was, but he must be in a bad spot. He’s not coming in very well,” Dale says.

“Shane-” Glenn’s voice comes through the walkie, staticy. “I need-” More static . “Trouble!”

Shane’s eyes instantly widen, realizing that Glenn’s trying to tell them that he’s in trouble. This is exactly what Shane was afraid, despite the fact that he knows Glenn can handle himself. They have no idea what those zombies are capable of. “Aw, hell. He’s in trouble! Shit. What the hell are we supposed to do?”

“There’s not much we can do. I’m sorry, Shane. It’s certainly not safe to send our people down there. Half of these people can’t protect themselves,”

“I’ll go,” Andrea is the first to step up. “Believe it or not, I can hold my own.”

“You’re not going alone,” Andrea’s sister speaks up. Her name is Amy, Shane thinks.

“That I can agree with,” Dale says, nodding in agreement.

“Then I’ll take a group with me,” Andrea says. “The more the merrier. Whatever.”

“Well, find people, and find them quickly. If Glenn’s in trouble in the city, then he might not have much time,” Shane snaps. “Listen to me, take Dixon with-” He rolls his eyes when Andrea groans. “I know you don’t want to. But, do it. He’ll have more motivation than any of you to get to Glenn out of there quicker.”

Andrea scoffs. “I still find it hard to believe those two are-”

“Watch how you finish that sentence, lady. That’s my step-son you’re talking about,” Shane warns.

Of course, Daryl is not happy when he finds out that Glenn’s in trouble, but he doesn’t hesitate for a second when Andrea asks him to join their group to go find him, which surprises the entire group, because they’re certainly not used to seeing Daryl care for anyone else but himself. He doesn’t even show that kind of love to Merle.

Daryl is on edge as the large group make their way towards the city. Daryl doesn’t think it’s necessary for so many people to go on a rescue mission involving one person, but there’s simply no time for arguments when Glenn is in trouble.

“What’s the plan, Dixon?” Andrea asks, catching up with Daryl.

Daryl can’t help but roll his eyes. He really doesn’t like Andrea all that much, and her need to be involved in everything. She wants to be the leader, but she’s no leader. “What plan?” He grumbles.

“You know, the plan to save Glenn,” Andrea says. “We can’t just waltz into the city.”

“That was the plan,” Daryl retorts.

“That’s not a very smart plan, Dixon,” Andrea argues.

“I have to agree with Andrea on this one,” T-Dog speaks up. “If Glenn is in danger, then we have to come up with a plan. If you just walk into the dangerous situation, it could endanger Glenn more and ourselves. So, we need a better plan.” The group stops walking when Daryl does.

“Alright then. You gotta a better idea?” Daryl asks, crossing his arms against his chest.

“Yeah, we could ask that guy,” Andrea says, pointing to a man in a cop uniform, pacing back and forth.

“And you thought my idea wasn’t smart?” Daryl hisses.

Andrea rolls her eyes, and starts walking up to the man. “Hey, you!” The man startles, and when he faces Andrea, he points a gun directly at her. She instantly puts her hands in the air. “Hey, whoa. Relax. We’re just looking for someone. We were wantin’ to know if you’ve seen him? Said he was in trouble a little bit ago.”

The cop instantly seems more relaxed. “You looking for the Asian?”

Daryl’s head pops up as soon as he hears the man mention an Asian, which can only mean Glenn. “He’s not Asian. He’s korean. What do you know about him?” He asks, walking up to Andrea and the cop.

“Not much. He helped me escape when I was trapped in a tank, and those… uh, geeks , he called them. They swarmed us. We lost a bag of guns I had, and then he was taken…”

“Taken? What the hell do you mean he was taken ?” Daryl asks angrily.

“Dixon, wait,” Andrea hisses, rolling her eyes with annoyance, before looking back at the cop. “You know who took him? Where they went? He’s one of ours.”

“Yeah. I think I know what direction they went in, and that’s kind of why I was pacing. I’ve been trying to figure out how to rescue him, without getting myself killed in the process,” the cop explains. “Oh, and uh, my name’s Rick, by the way. I assume that we’re going to work together to save the kid.”

“I’m Andrea. This is Di- Daryl. That’s T-Dog and Jacqui,” Andrea introduces.

“Interesting group of people you got here,” Rick says.

“We ain’t got time for small talk, Officer Friendly,” Daryl snaps, ignoring the way Rick looks at him with raised eyebrows. “You know where he’s at, so you lead the way.

“You look familiar-”

Daryl scoffs. “Didn’t you hear me? We don’t have time for bloody small talk.”

“Yeah, yeah. I heard you. However, we can’t just go. Those geeks are everywhere, and there’s no way we’re getting through them without getting killed. They’re vicious."

Daryl crosses his arms against his chest, glaring at the officer. “Think of a plan, and think about it fast. Or else I’m leaving all of you here.”

Rick sighs, before nodding. “So, here’s what I’m thinking-”

They stay close to buildings as Rick leads the way, that way they have less of a chance of running into any geeks. The last thing they need is more trouble.

“That’s them,” Rick says when they come across a building with people outside. “Okay, they have weapons, so we have to be- hey, where are you going?” Rick’s eyes widen as he watches Daryl storm up to the people, immediately confronting them and threatening them, demanding to know where Glenn is.

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! I don’t think you wanna mess with us,” one of the guys says.

“I don’t fucking care what kind of weapons you have. You have someone I care about, and I’m not leaving until you give him back,” Daryl hisses. “Where is he?”

“I don’t know who the hell you are talking about, man,”

“Don’t bullshit me. I know you have him. He’s the one you took the weapons from,”

The man is silent for a moment. “Oh. The Asian kid?”

“He’s Korean,” Daryl corrects. “Where the hell is he? I’m not leaving without him.”

“You can have him. But, you ain’t getting the weapons back,” the man says.

Daryl scoffs. “Like I said, I don’t give two shits about the fucking weapons,”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute,” Rick says as he walks up to them. “Daryl, we need those weapons back. Don’t you think we could use those guns to survive?”

“I’ve got a bow and arrow. I don’t need no damn guns,” Daryl snaps. He looks back at the man. “I don’t think you want to mess with me, man. Take me to him now.”

“Alright,” the man says. He glances over at the rest of the group, and they’re all watching curiously, before leading the way into the building.

Daryl keeps his eyes peeled as they walk through the hallways, before walking into a bedroom where there’s another small group of people.

“Yo, where’s the Asian kid?”

“Whoa, who the hell are these people?” One of the men ask.

“I’m here. You wanted me?” Glenn asks, stepping out from behind the other group. He looks over and his eyes widen as soon as he sees Daryl standing there. “Daryl?”

Daryl gives him a soft smile. “Hey kid,”

“Holy shit,” Glenn gasps, and he runs up to Daryl, throwing his arms around him and hugging him tightly. He closes his eyes as tears form in his eyes. He never ever thought that he would see Daryl again after they got separated that terrifying first night. Glenn had no idea if Daryl was alive or dead. “I thought you were dead!”

Daryl scoffs, keeping his arms around Glenn. “I ain’t letting the fuckin’ dead kill me,”

Glenn pulls away and kisses Daryl passionately. “I missed you so much,”

“I-” Daryl stops when he hears the sound of someone clearing their throat, and he looks over to see their group staring at them. The men look rather unimpressed, while the women are swooning over Daryl and Glenn’s reunion.

“Oh hey. It’s you again,” Glenn says. “Glad to see you didn’t get eaten by the geeks.”

“How exactly did you know this guy?” Daryl asks, looking at Glenn.

“Oh yeah, the dumbass got himself stuck in that tank out there, surrounded by geeks. He would have been dead if it weren’t for me,” Glenn grins.

“Fuck, it’s good to have you back,” Daryl says, kissing Glenn.

Eventually, after a lot of arguing, the quarry group makes it out of the building, and with all of the guns Rick had previously. The people who kidnapped weren’t bad, in fact they were just trying to look after their own people. Glenn hopes they make it okay.

“Where the hell did you go?” Daryl whispers when he and Glenn are walking, a little bit behind the others. “I thought we were going to meet at the apartment.”

“I’m sorry,” Glenn whispers. “Shane was starting to panic about the whole thing, and basically dragged me out. I wanted to stay and wait for you, but he said that we couldn’t wait. I wanted to leave you a note, but I barely had time to pack a bag.”

Daryl scoffs. “Of course it was him,”

“Hey, it’s not because of his dislike for you. He really was worried, and I mean… he had every right to be worried, considering how the world ended up,” Glenn whispers.

“I would have gotten there sooner, but I had to get Merle’s ass first,” Daryl grumbles.

“I mean, you could have just left him…”

“He’s my brother,’

“Yeah? And you know damn well Merle wouldn’t have gone back for you,” Glenn says.

Daryl glares at him. “I don’t wanna argue with you about this right now,”

“I’m sorry,” Glenn mumbles, and he looks over at Daryl, taking a deep breath. “I’m… I am happy you’re still alive, Daryl. I really did think you were dead.”

Daryl looks back at him. “You can’t get rid of me that easily,”

Glenn grins, and he reaches over to grab Daryl’s hand. “I don’t want to get rid of you,”

“Get a room!” T-Dog shouts from ahead of the group.

“Fuck off!” Daryl shouts.

Glenn can’t help but smile, and for the first time since the world ended.

Eventually, they make it back to the camp. Rick is reunited with his wife and son, and Glenn’s a little ashamed of himself that he hadn’t realized that the dumbass is the same Rick his step-dad used to work with. He only heard about him, never met him.

“You’re not going back again,” Shane says, pulling Glenn into a hug.

“I’m fine,” Glenn says, pulling away from the hug. “It was all just a big misunderstanding. Besides, it’s fine . Daryl saved me.” He grins as he looks at Shane.

Shane rolls his eyes. “Here, I thought I would never see the Dixon’s again,”

“Come on, Shane. Daryl’s not that bad. Merle, however…”

“Yeah, he’s going to be real thrilled when he sees you,” Daryl says, walking up to Glenn and Shane. “Don’t worry ‘bout ‘im. I’ll make sure he keeps his mouth shut.”

“Yeah, you fuckin’ better,” Shane warns, pointing a finger at Daryl. “I mean it, Dixon. I’ve had enough racist comments from Merle.”

“You know, you’re not a police officer anymore, Walsh. You can’t tell me what to do,” Daryl says, and he throws an arm around Glenn. “Now, if you’ll excuse us… we haven’t seen each other in… too long. We have some catching up to do.”

Shane rolls his eyes, though he doesn’t argue when Daryl and Glenn walk off.

“So, that’s your kid, huh?”

Shane looks over when he hears the familiar voice, and sees Rick standing there. He takes a deep breath. “Yeah, that's my kid. I hear he saved your sorry ass out there,”

Rick chuckles. “Yeah, he really did. And… I’m sorry he got kidnapped in the process. You know, it wasn’t exactly my intention to get someone kidnapped today,”

“It’s okay. He’s safe now, and he’s okay, that’s all that matters to me. Thank you, and… I’m glad you made it out, Rick. We didn’t…”

“I know,” Rick says, nodding. “Lori explained everything to me. I’m not upset.”

Shane nods, and he pulls Rick into a friendly hug, before pulling away. “Come on, you’ve got some family time to catch up on,” he says, and throws an arm around Rick, leading the way to where he knows Lori and Carl’s at.
