Work Text:

Moon took a step out onto the damp ground outside the shelter door. Rain droplets gently trickled down from the roof, the last remainder of the previously torrential downpour that had been happening only minutes earlier. She held one hand out, catching several droplets of water on her palm.
It was hard to believe that she, along with all of her friends and family, had been the one causing the erratic weather.
It had never affected them before, the majority of their structures were positioned above the clouds. But now, being so small, down on the very ground with the weather and harsh wildlife that they were originally shielded from…

A loud yawn behind her distracted Moon from her thoughts. She sighed, “Good morning, Sig.”

He scratched the back of his neck, eyes squinted. “...mmmornin’. How are you so…” he yawned again rubbing his eyes, “...awake.”

Sliver pushed her way out of the shelter gate behind him, sliding onto the wet floor. She stood up and shook herself off, flicking her tail. “Still raining?”

Moon nodded. “A little. I think it’s safe, though."

Sig suddenly elbowed her in the side, grinning, yet still obviously only half-awake. He crossed his arms. “You’ve got me here, of course it’s safe.” His words slurred together slightly.

Sliver sighed with a smile on her face, “What’re you gonna do, fight the rain?”

He slammed his hands against each other, punching himself in the palm. “...Yeah.”

Moon stretched. “I wish you the best of luck with that.” She chuckled, before quickly leaping forwards and grabbing a hold of a pole. She slowly climbed her way upwards, feeling small raindrops hitting her fur. Sliver followed behind her, and Sig jumped forwards shortly after. He yelped as his hands wrapped around the pole, and Moon glanced down towards him.

Sliver’s fur spiked up. “Sig!” She jumped towards him.

Oh. That wasn’t a pole.

Hurriedly, Sig managed to grab onto a nearby pole as the plant wrestled to pull him downwards. Sliver jumped down onto the ground and grabbed ahold of him, pulling against the plant.

Moon looked around, looking for something she could use to help. She spotted a spear laying on the ground on the other side of the room, behind the plant. As it lashed around, slowly curling more leaves around Sig’s legs, Moon leaped past it and grabbed the piece of metal stuck into the ground. She took a few steps closer and readied herself to throw the weapon.

How does Sliver do this? Why can’t it just sit still for a SECOND-- Suddenly, Sig’s grip on the pole slipped, as the plant managed to drag him further back. Sliver skidded along the ground slightly, struggling to keep her footing. “Moon! Do something!”

“I don’t- I can’t aim this thing!”

“At least throw it to me!”

She reeled back for a moment, then threw the spear forwards, trying her best to keep it aimed at the plant.

Shutting her eyes and looking away, she didn’t see where it hit, but the lack of a clank from metal hitting the ground was a good sign.

Gah-- Serves you right you overgrown fucker!” Sig’s yelling gave her the confidence to look again, and she saw the plant flailing around with a spear embedded in it. Sig quickly jumped up and pulled the spear out of it, only to stab it right back in again. The plant flailed more, then quickly pulled itself downwards, retreating. “Ha-hah!!” He flung his arms into the air.

Sliver sighed behind him, wiping her forehead. Moon jumped down from the ledge to sit on the ground with the other two. “Is everyone alright?”

Sliver huffed, “Yeah, we’re--”

“Never been better!” Sig put one hand on his side and grinned, interrupting her.

She sighed again. “We’re fine.”

Moon turned to Sig, a stern expression appearing on her face. “I thought we’d already been over being careful where you put your hands!”

Sig crossed his arms. “I was!”

“You wouldn’t have gotten snagged by a poleplant if you were being careful!”

Sliver shook her head. “We should get going, before a vulture sees us arguing and thinks of free food.” She quickly jumped back onto the pole, and Moon followed behind her. “Yeah, let’s go.”

Sig’s frown lifted and he grabbed onto the pole as well, following the other two up. “I’ll see what you think when YOU get grabbed by a plant then!”

Moon rolled her eyes. “Sure, Sig.”
