Work Text:
One of the things Reigen enjoyed most about Serizawa working at Spirits and Such, was to get to see him grow. Each day that passed saw him come into his own, become ever more confident, and figure out who he wanted to be; Reigen wanted to catalogue all of it.
Being so close all the time made it a bit difficult to track these subtle changes, but Reigen still tried to commit as many as possible to memory. Every new accomplishment always filled him with a wave of pride and joy. They were precious moments.
Recently, Serizawa had begun feeling truly at ease in the office when it was just the two of them. Reigen had noticed this in a few different ways, but his favourite tell was undoubtedly the fact that Serizawa had started humming.
It wasn't something the man himself was aware of, but it happened every so often when he was particularly focused on a task, just as he was at the moment.
Reigen observed him from the corner of his eye, pretending he was daydreaming. They were both supposed to be taking a short break. Reigen was lounging on the couch, making the most of it. Serizawa was dusting shelves, but Reigen knew by now that he much preferred finishing a task before resting instead of stopping in the middle of it. He would just need to remind his dutiful employee of his break afterwards. In the meantime, he was content to watch and listen.
Serizawa had a soothing voice. It was soft, but still filled the quiet in the room nicely. His duster moved in time with his rhythm, like a fluffy conductor's baton.
Odd movements in the room caught Reigen's attention and he turned his head to find the cause. On the windowsill, in a corner, and on his desk, the plants in the office had started swaying gently. Leaves furled and unfurled, stems lazily bobbed left and right, and petals danced in waves, in harmony with the subtle melody.
Serizawa's powers were certainly behind the phenomenon, but being unable to see them, it looked to Reigen as if the plants had spontaneously decided to partake in this joyous little moment.
He laughed despite himself at the scene.
Serizawa stopped dusting to look back at him with mild confusion, concentration broken.
"You were humming," Reigen explained. "It was making the flowers dance."
Serizawa froze like a deer in the headlights, cheeks flushing almost instantly. He started stammering an apology, but Reigen raised his hand, cutting him off.
"I liked it. The office felt happy."
"Ah, thank you, sir," Serizawa mumbled, face a brighter shade of red, before turning back suddenly, to hide his face and keep dusting.
Neither of them added anything else on the subject, but when Reigen heard the familiar humming return some time later, Serizawa was smiling to himself.
