Chapter 1: Finding his soulmates

Chapter Text

Elijah wasn't easily surprised. He had had centuries to see everything that had the power to surprise him, many times unleashed by his own siblings.

Receiving a call from one of his contacts in New York to report a strange witch wandering around their neighborhood hadn't been surprising and, if he was being honest, it couldn't have come at a better time.

Hayley and Jackson's wedding had been painful to witness and losing his younger brother for the second time had been too painful. At least, Elijah thought, Kol had finally experienced what it was like to be in their oath. The fact that it had taken a millennium and a death to make him understand had been absurd and horrendous.

Elijah felt like he failed his younger brother.

“So, you're leaving.”

Elijah raised an eyebrow at Niklaus. “I think you can run things in New Orleans, brother. You wanted a throne, you can take care of it now.”

“And the reason for your sudden departure has nothing to do with the party going on downstairs, I suppose.”

Ignoring the teasing tone of voice Nikaus used, Elijah responded instead. “I will ask Rebekah if she would like to join me in her search for a way to bring Kol back to life with the shaman magic Davina mentioned.”

And wasn't that surprising? Kol was back to acting like he used to , lighter without having to be a vampire, having his magic once again. And Davina, who hated the Mikaelsons and everything they stood for, had fallen in love with Kol.

Soulmates were something truly amazing.

Elijah hoped that their magic and bond was enough to bring Kol back to the world of the living.

“Elijah.” Niklaus didn't look amused.

Elijah stared at him and the hybrid sighed. “I can understand that it is painful for you, that the second person you care for in a short time is not ready for you, but Hayley is doing everything she can to take care of our daughter .”

“And I harbor no ill will or contempt for her choice to care for your daughter.” Elijah said honestly.

“You're just hurt .” Niklaus murmured, sounding genuinely concerned for Elijah. “I don't want… I can't lose you, Elijah. I can't take care of everything here without you .”

“I'm not running away, Niklaus.” Elijah responded calmly, even though he was touched by his brother's words. It was unusual for Niklaus to let the love he felt for Elijah show, but when he did, Elijah's mind returned to their life before the cold of the death they were stuck in. “I received a request for help from a witch with whom I have a still ongoing deal. And I am personally intrigued by a witch capable of surprising this acquaintance of mine.”

And Elijah was. Michelle was not a witch that many dared to mess with. If she was afraid of a witch, Elijah could only imagine her power.

And the vampire enjoyed playing with new pieces on the board. Seeing what motivated people was one of the few pleasures Elijah didn't deny himself.

“And will you come back?” Niklaus asked, looking for confirmation in Elijah's eyes.

“As soon as I solve the problem of my acquaintance.” Elijah promised.

The chances that he would return to the house that Hayley and Jackson also occupied were very slim , but he had a niece to protect from all the enemies they had made over the years, and a brother to protect from his own demons.

He had shown that he feared Elijah and the involvement his daughter might have with him due to the bond that was developing between Elijah and Hayley. Jackson had married Hayley and was not as loyal to Niklaus as Elijah had always been.

Elijah knew his brother. He would become anxious about any interaction between Jackson and his daughter.

"Very good." Niklaus nodded. “I wish you a fruitful journey. And Rebekah will do well with a trip away from here.” He added after a few moments of reflection. “She deserves some peace of mind.”

Elijah smiled. Sometimes, he saw again the sweet brother he knew growing up.

“Good luck with the rebel wolves moving in here.” Elijah said, smiling at his brother's discomfort, well aware of how much Niklaus hated sharing the things he considered his own.

It had happened with their house, with his siblings several times . The only exception to his no-sharing rule involved soulmates. He hadn't kept Finn and Sage away, he hadn't kept Rebekah and Marcel away once the latter had become a vampire and was deemed old enough to be with Rebekah, and he hadn't kept Davina and Kol away.

Elijah knew that he would not deny Elijah his soulmate either, even though it was likely that he would also try to take that person as a member of his family and become insanely protective and possessive of him.

Harvey Specter hadn't become the best lawyer in and around New York for no reason.

He knew how to be tenacious and was dedicated to his work. He gave his all and no one could deny his impact on the law firm.

“I'm just saying,” Mike was teasing him, even though Harvey had just won an extremely important case and brought the firm over ten million, “you might as well show some emotion other than the smug self-satisfaction you're showing.”

“It's still an emotion, right?” Harvey replied, amused by the smirk Mike gave him.

“You are impossible.” Mike groaned.

“Well, you're not the first to tell me or think that, rookie.” Harvey replied, “and you won't be the last..."

As Harvey finished speaking, someone bumped him on the shoulder, quickly apologizing and then continuing on their way.

Harvey only had time to see teal eyes, beautiful and so bri ght, before a pain in his abdomen made him bend forward.

The boy was already gone, and Harvey cursed himself for not looking at him better.

“Hey, are you okay?” Mike asked him worriedly. “Did he hit you that hard?”

Harvey shook his head. "I found it."

"What?" Mike asked, but Harvey had already dialed Donna's number, which he answered on the second ring.

Harvey, what's going on ?” Donna asked. “ Are you coming back now?

“I need you to find someone.” Harvey said. “He just came at me in front of the court.”

There was a pause before Donna spoke. “ What did he do, dirty your shirt and you're so desperate that you want him to pay the laundry bill ?”

“Donna,” Harvey spoke slowly, locking eyes with Mike as he did so, making sure they were both listening, “I just found my soulmate.”

" What ?!" Mike and Donna exclaimed at the same time.

The place where Elijah had a meeting with Michelle was too loud for Elijah's liking.

He could understand why the witch had chosen him.

It was too conspicuous to attract anyone who wished to remain hidden.

It was therefore the best place for their extremely private discussion.

Hidden in plain sight.

“Elijah.”

Elijah stood to greet the witch, smiling politely at her. “Michelle. I hope you are fine."

"I am." Michelle nodded, sitting down across from Elijah. “Except for this witch who is invading our territories.”

"Tell me about her." Elijah invited, tilting his head and taking note of the constant movement of Michelle's fingers and the way she looked around her.

“She doesn't use magic like we witches do, yet she has great power that she should be impossible to hide. But she succeeds. I can't explain how she can be so powerful."

"I understand." Elijah murmured. And it was true, he understood.

Michelle was scared by her inability to control this witch.

Rebekah intervened. “How powerful would you say she is?”

Michelle sighed. "Very. More than any witch I've ever met before."

Rebekah was interested in the possibility of interacting with this witch.

Elijah doubted it would be of much help, but he could understand the need to cling to the slightest hope .

His gaze wandered around the place, stopping on a boy sitting at the counter, joking with the bartender with a book in front of him.

A student in the frenzy of a club. Elijah would never understand New Yorkers.

And yet… and yet the boy's smell attracted him.

It was pure, sweet, refreshing, and the most powerful thing Elijah had ever felt.

Then, the boy turned and met Elijah's gaze, who felt a pain in his abdomen.

He had found it.

Looking up again, suddenly frantic, he noticed that the boy was gone.

But the traces of his scent remained imprinted in the air, tracing a path for Elijah.

“Do you have any more information on this witch?” Elijah asked, wanting nothing more than to run after his soulmate.

"Only a photo." Michelle handed the piece of paper to Elijah, who took it and stood up. “We have to go somewhere else. Have a good evening, Michelle.”

Rebekah followed him as soon as Elijah left the club.

"Where are you going?" Rebekah scolded him. “We could have gotten more information about this witch if you hadn't gotten distracted like you did!”

“Michelle had no other information about this witch.” Elijah shook his head. “Staying longer would have just wasted our time.”

"For what ?" Rebekah answered him. “Go back to our apartment and do nothing?”

Elijah turned to look at her. “Rebekah… I found my soulmate.”

" What ?" Rebekah asked, feeling breathless.

Elijah smiled. “I found my soulmate.”

Rebekah blinked. “Go get hom, then. I'll warn Nik.” Then, the girl leaned over and she pulled Elijah into a hug. "I'm so happy for you."

Elijah hugged her back.

Harvey was looking at the document Donna had filled out.

For having the only information that you had clashed with Harvey, you had done a great job. She did such good work it scared Harvey a little .

Perseus Jackson .” Harvey read, tasting the name on his lips. “He lives here, in New York.” He noted smugly.

He had feared that he might only be in New York on a trip and that it would therefore be impossible to return to the house or implement a possible future division of time to see each other as much as possible.

“And he's a child .” Mike muttered, looking at the birth year on the document.

“He is not a child.” Harvey denied it. “And for soulmates, age doesn't matter.”

“You know what else is just a number?” Mike reminded him, knowing that that sentence was something many soulmates used. “The bones that his parents will break if you get too close to a child . And, Harvey, he's barely seventeen. He is a child."

“I don't want to start a physical relationship with him as soon as I meet him.” Harvey defended himself. “I want to get to know him and spend time with him. It’s not strange at all. And that's what I meant by age doesn't matter as far as soulmates are concerned.”

Donna was watching the scene with amusement.

Mike, however, grimaced. " Poor bo y. He has a soulmate who is much older than him.”

Donna laughed and Harvey growled. "Stop that. I'll go see him now.”

“As long as he's home.” Donna pointed out. “He might be out with his current girlfriend.”

Harvey glared at her.

Donna shrugged. “It's not like you were a prude at seventeen.”

Mike snorted in amusement and Harvey growled at them both.

“If he is not at home, I will take this opportunity to discuss with his parents.” Harvey decided.

Donna and Mike shrugged.

"Good luck."

A knock on the door made Sally go and open the door.

Percy had returned earlier, clearly uncomfortable about something .

He had hugged her, always affectionate despite his age, and then had holed up in his room to study.

Opening the door, Sally blinked as she recognized the person on the other side.

She had no reason to need a lawyer, but Sally knew who Harvey Specter was, if only for the way he always ended up in the gossip magazines that Sally had started reading in her spare moments. The most eligible bachelor in all of New York.

Which, for some reason, happened to be on the doorstep of the Jackson-Blofis home.

"Can I help you?" Sally asked politely.

"Uh, yes. You can." Mr Specter nodded, suddenly looking nervous. “I am your son's soulmate. Perseus, I mean.”

" What ?” Sally murmured, feeling dazed.

Poseidon had warned her that demigods often didn't have soulmates because gods didn't have souls.

Sally had been sad for her son, who couldn't have someone meant to be his.

And now Harvey Specter promised to be her son's soulmate.

At least, Sally thought, her son wouldn't get involved with a god , always Sally's greatest fear.

“It's in his room.” Sally decided to say. “If you want, you can come in and I can call him. So we can all talk together.”

The lawyer was quick to enter the living room, scanning the room before sitting down.

Sally approached the stairs, calling loudly. “Percy, can you come down for a moment, darling?”

After not even a few minutes, Percy entered the room and smiled at her mother. “Do you need a hand, mom?”

Sally smiled sweetly at him. “Sit down for a moment.”

Percy did so, freezing when he saw Harvey on the couch.

"Hi?" Percy said, though his tone was too questioning and confused to sound normal.

“Hi, Percy.” Harvey smiled at Percy, and Sally narrowed her eyes at the way his voice sounded.

“Uh… do I know you?” Percy asked, sounding intrigued.

Harvey gasped, and suddenly there was pain in his eyes.

Sally was confused. Harvey hadn't lied about being her son's soulmate, because he would have had no reason to lie about it.

Percy was a nobody in the mortal world, not like in the Greek world. There would have been no gain for a person like Harvey in lying about that matter.

But why didn't Percy realize this?

Another knock on the door distracted Sally from the scene before her eyes and forced her to go and open the door for the person on the other side.

A man dressed much like Harvey Specter was on the other side of the doorway.

“I apologize for my intrusion.” The man said. “I'm Elijah Mikaelson and I'm your son's soulmate.”

Sally blinked, before allowing Elijah to enter her house.

Percy turned to see who was entering and froze, before bringing his hand to his aching abdomen.

Her son had two soulmates. Not just one, he had two .

Sally now understood how he could have them. Demigods didn't have soulmates because gods didn't have souls in the first place. Percy had made up for his father's lack of soul with two soulmates.

"Oh." Harvey brightened up. His soulmate hadn't rejected him.

He hadn't just met his soulmates at the same time. So he couldn't have known that they were his soulmates.

" What ..?" Percy wondered, looking at the two arrivals, both too well dressed to fit into the living room of the Jackson-Blofis house.

“Percy, love.” Sally told him, approaching him gently, knowing how confused her son must be at that moment. “They are your soulmates.”

The look on her son's face was too funny for Sally.

She would have loved to know Poseidon's reaction to the knowledge that his son had two soulmates, and that they were both much older than him.

One look at the other men showed her that her son ended up with possessive and jealous men.

Like mother, like son, after all.
