    Summary

The Took blood in bilbo was often described as a sleeping dragon: quiet, respectable, and buried under layers of velvet waistcoats and doilies. But as the Company of Thorin Oakenshield pressed further into the wild, the "Baggins" side of Bilbo began to wither under the heat of adrenaline, and the "Took" side woke up with a roar and a thirst for heights.

By the time they reached the lands of Beorn, Bilbo wasn't just a burglar; he was a walking heart attack for thirteen Dwarves.

    Summary

The golden lamps of the royal dining hall cast a warm, amber glow over the table, but the atmosphere in the corridors of Erebor was far from peaceful. For months, a low-level murmur of dissent had been brewing in the darker corners of the mountain. Most of the kingdom adored their Hobbit Consort, the "Luck-wearer" who had helped reclaim their home. But one particular nobleman, Lord Bruni, a traditionalist with a heart as cold as the stone he mined, could not stand the sight of a Halfling wearing a crown of Mithril. To him, Bilbo Baggins was a soft, power-hungry intruder who had bewitched the King.

Bruni had decided that the "Hobbit problem" required a permanent solution. He hadn't just used a drop of poison; he had used enough to fell a dragon.

    Summary

Thorin blinked. Then he rubbed his eyes and blinked again. "By the Stone... Balin, tell me I am not seeing things."

Coming down the gangplank was a crew of sailors who stood no taller than four feet. But they were not like Bilbo.

    .....
    ............
    .....

    "COUSINS!"

The shout didn't come from the ship. It came from behind the Dwarves.

Bilbo Baggins launched himself past Thorin, his face lit up with a joy so pure it looked like he’d found a mountain made of bacon. He sprinted toward the lead pirate, a formidable-looking Hobbit wearing a tricorne hat and a coat made of oiled seal-skin.

    Summary

Kili jumped, nearly splashing into the creek. He turned, and Bilbo froze. The young Dwarf’s dark hair was damp, but at the very roots, a solid inch of growth, it wasn't dark at all. It was a pale, shimmering blonde that matched Fili’s exactly.

"It’s gone," Kili whispered, his voice cracking. "The dye. The rain and the sweat... I ran out of the pigment three days ago, Bilbo. I’ve been trying to hide it, but it’s too bright."

"Hide it?" Bilbo blinked. "Why on earth would you hide it? You and Fili look like a matched set! It’s rather charming, actually."

"It isn't charming for Uncle!" Kili wailed, burying his face in a towel. "He can't see, Bilbo! He won't admit it, but his eyes have been failing since the exile. If we both have the same hair, he loses his mind. He treats us like one person with two bodies. I started dyeing it so he’d stop calling me 'Fili' every five minutes!"
