Chapter Text
We all know the story: a princess, a plumber, and a turtle dragon hybrid thing. Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom describing it seems a bit redundant but who can resist a bit of nostalgia? The green glades are rich with flowers that sing a happy tune, the mountains themselves dance in response. Inside the kingdom walls toads of all creeds and colors walk around to shops and houses (Though it might be more accurate to say they waddle.) The busy streets seemingly never rest. The centerpiece of the city, the castle is white with pink roofs and a giant stained glass window in the princesses' likeness. Sitting in the garden Princess Peach hums her own song, a song she’d heard since childhood that guided her through the good times and bad. As the song reaches its end a guard toad with blue spots, wielding a spear approaches her.
“My lady, Mario Mario has arrived to see you” She says (Yes, that is his full name.) And just like that Mr Videogame himself walks through the door. His red shirt and hat, his autumn brown polished shoes the same color as his his hair and iconic mustache and of course the blue overalls complete with gold buttons (I wonder if they're made of real gold)
“No matter how many times I see it this garden never fails to amaze me.” He compliments, gawking at the various flowers and shrubbery as if it were his first time ever being there. She smiles a smile that softened every room since she was a child, Mario could feel butterflies in stomach.
“Mario, are you okay?” She asks, making him realize he’d been staring.
“H-How are you doing today Peach?” He sputters in a redundant attempt to save face. She giggles lightly.
“I’m okay, although a tad worried.” She stares at a flower.
“About what?”
“The Koopa kingdom has been suspiciously silent as of late.”
“What are your mother and father doing about it?”
“That’s the thing, nothing!” She yells. “They just keep telling me not to worry because the Mario brothers will handle it!” Her face turns red with rage.” They’ve become so dependent on you and your brother that they’ve unknowingly lessened castle defenses it’s-” Peach rants.
“Princess! It’s alright.” Mario interrupts her looking at her with those soft caring eyes she was only used to seeing from beyond a cage. Though lately she’d been a part of more adventures like the time she helped save fairies, or the time with the flower kingdom, and no one could forget the theater she got two Tonys for that. In all but one of those quests bowser was the main problem for all of them and now he was seemingly doing nothing. Peach shakes out of her trance, deciding that panic wasn’t helping at all.
“Okay, okay I’m sorry.” She apologizes with a sigh.
“There’s no need to apologize, you're justified.” He assures her, blushing looking deep into her teal eyes.
“Thank you, Mario.” She says.
“Princess I was wondering if maybe you’d like to-” *CRASH* Mario starts but is interrupted by the sound of glass shattering.
“YO!” A boisterous redhead shouts, kicking down the glass garden door. A toad scuttles behind her.
“P-Princess.” She says breathlessly. “Princess Daisy has *phew* arrived.” She finally spits out before frivolously panicking at the sight of the broken door. Peach holds back a sigh of relief as she goes to greet the princess of Sarasaland.
“How ya doing Pinky?” She cheers, dodging her outstretched hand and trapping her in a strong embrace and spinning her around like a top.
“G-Good.” She struggles to speak through the bone cracking bearhug.
“Nice to hear, nice to hear just came by to check on ya!” She puts her down leaving her stumbling. “So, what are you love birds doing?”
“Daisy!” They both scream, clearly embarrassed.
“I’m kidding, I’m kidding geez tough crowd.” She chuckles, hiding a mischievous smirk.
“How are things in Sarasaland?” Peach sighs.
“Terrible.” She says, bluntly.
“Oh!”
“I’ve proven myself over and over again and yet my parents still think I’m not ready to take over.” Daisy groans.
“I see.”
“Which is frustrating because it feels like they’re saying I’m not good enough.”
“Cheer up Daisy I’m sure-” Peach starts
“They only want what's best for you.” Daisy finishes. “I know but sometimes I feel like they’re treating me like a kid.” Daisy elaborates her head hanging low in a rare case of seriousness from the redhead. Peach attempts to think of a reply, but before she can red lights flash in the kingdom playing a loud skirting alarm. Luigi dashes through the still exposed doorway in a panic.
“M-Mario.” He stutters, breathing heavily.
“Whoa, whoa Lu, breath pal. What’s wrong?” His brother asks.
“Bowser is on his way with his fleet, we have to go!” He yells, without a second thought the quartet rush out of the garden into the castle.
“Wait, my lady!” The Toad squeals waddling hastily after them. They run past screaming and cowering guards and citizens. They reach the entrance of the castle, in the distance Bowser's flying ship drifts from beyond the mountains.
“Pfft, is this really all he brought?” Daisy laughs.
“Wait.” Peach pauses. “What’s that sound?” She queries. The sound of propellers seem strangely loud for one ship until a second ship flies from the mountain then a third, fourth, fifth an entire armada arrives on the doorstep of the kingdom. Luigi tries to steel himself but trembles despite his efforts.
“We need to get everyone in formation now!” Peach yells only to turn to see the panting guard toad from before. “Gather them now, Toad!”
“Y-yes ma’am.” She runs inside the castle to carry out the order.
Several miles (Or kilometers for our European readers) away from the mushroom kingdom through thick forests and rivers stands a city of bridges, barrels and mine carts. In this banana bonanza full of homes and shops sits a small humble straw hut. Inside lies a gorilla in a red necktie marked DK in yellow, next to him in a tire suspended by a rope is a smaller ape in a red yellow star lined t-shirt with a cap that read “product placement”. Both slumber in front of a now static tv when red lights blare in their living room waking them up. An SOS from the mushroom kingdom flashes on the tv showing an armada of Koopa battleships. Diddy Kong (Unfortunate name nowadays) jumps up from his seat excited; he runs over to a closet and throws out various items: banana peels, giant peanut shells, half a coconut cream pie, and finally his jetpack and peanut guns. He runs back to the living room only to see it vacated. He sprints towards the back door, Donkey Kong is entering a barrel cannon. He tries to enter with him but is halted by the bigger anthropoid and signaled to stay behind and guard the house. Before he could object the cannon fires his uncle into the distance. (I looked it up on the wiki so if it’s wrong just know YOU lied to ME) Diddy plops onto the floor, disappointed to be put on house duty yet again. DK seems to fly through the air as he swings on vines and branches at neck break speeds going from cannon to cannon as if by muscle memory. He goes faster and faster powered by the sheer thought of the price of his tardiness.
Back at the mushroom kingdom The group arms themselves with items don winged caps and fly towards the bowser's army. The guard toad finally returns with the promised backup.
“Princess!” She screams. She looks around frantically before seeing toads setting up a catapult. She runs towards it snatching one of the spears from the soldier, getting in the catapult, and slashing the rope.
“What’s the plan, peach tree?” Daisy asks, flying with her hands behind her head as if resting in a hammock
“There are too many to take head on, we have to end this quickly, head to the main ship.” Peach explains.
“Taking it to the big guy, huh? I love it.” Daisy compliments. They fly to the aforementioned ship and there on a metal throne is the king of the Koopa's Bowser. Mario’s hands blaze with godly pyre and Luigi’s eyes crackle with divine lightning.
“Show offs.” Daisy jests, they all land facing off against the behemoth.
“Well, well it’s been too long, I was beginning to think you forgot me.”
“I wish.” Peach groans and rolls her eyes, the king chuckles.
“You know you can still stop this, honey.”
“I’m not your honey!” She yells, crushing an ice flower in her palm her pink dress turns white and light blue.
“You're going down.” Daisy crashes a metal mushroom and turns into metal, slamming her fists together causing sparks.
“Don’t worry you’ll learn soon.” He stands from his throne and takes a step towards the group.
“Peach look out!” Mario jumps in front of the princesses shooting a torrent of fire towards the Turtle titan. A golden aura appears around him absorbing the fire.
“What!?” Mario shouts, in surprise. Bowser smirks, he chuckles slowly rising into a full maniacal laugh as a secret latch opens behind him. From it a cylinder transparent container and inside to the joy of the Koopa king and the horror of everyone but Daisy sits a grand star.
“Where’s Rosalina?!” Peach yells immediately picking up on the implication of the stolen possession.
“She and her little friends are scattered around the fleet working as energy sources.” He explains. “It took a long time to pull it off and even more manpower but we got it done, and with this power it doesn’t matter if your toads suddenly find their spines they can’t even damage my fleet.” He yells, bounding towards his archfoes.
