Summary
The Dance of the Dragons is over.
King Aegon II Targaryen sits upon the Iron Throne and the ashes of his older half-sister, Rhaenyra Targaryen, are scattered to the wind. To cement the end to the conflict between the Greens and the Blacks, Aegon marries Rhaenyra’s only daughter, Valaena Velaryon. Shall he become like the bitter man that raised him, broken and twisted in body and mind, or rise above the shackles of neglect that brought about the very war that destroyed his family?
Valaena Velaryon is tried of war. To free her brothers from the burden of the damned Iron Throne that has cost their family so much, she agrees to her uncle’s proposal of marriage—knowing full well that she is following in her mother’s footsteps—and becomes his queen—knowing he does not love her and never will.
