Chapter Text
Law is sitting on board the sunny, he's at the table doing a cross word puzzle, the paper just came and sometimes he likes doing the cross word puzzles.
Next to him is a plate with two rice balls, Sanji made those for him since today he made breakfast sandwiches again.
While he tries to figure out the puzzle, Luffy comes, excited and rushing over. "Torao! torao! Look I caught a goliath beetle!"
"Not now." Law mumbles, but Luffy still shows his excitement. "But torao, it's so cool, it's almost the size of my hand!” He says while showing Law the jar.
Law does his best to ingore him and finish his puzzle. Luffy looks at him with curiosity and puts the jar down to get close to Law. "Is there something in the newspaper you're looking at?” Luffy then lets out an excited gasp. “Did our bounties go up?” He tries to get a look at the paper, but Law pulls it away in annoyance.
“No, I’m trying to do the crossword puzzle, please give me some space.”
“Crossword puzzle? You mean that page with the boxes where you try and put in words?”
“Yes.” Law says with a nod and Luffy huffs. “Those things are boring, why do you think boring stuff is fun, traffy?”
“I’m sorry that not everyone wants to do things like tag or I-spy for fun.” Law mumbles and Luffy looks confused. “But I spy is fun.”
“Not when you’re out at sea.” Law says flatly. “Now please let me finish this before we get to the next island.” Luffy pouts. “I want you to help me build my beetle a new home.”
“Why do you want my help?” Luffy smiles and says “because Torao is smart.” Law sighs and looks at Luffy. “Look I’ll help you when this is done, okay?”
Luffy hums and nods. “Okay.”
“Good.” Law is about to go back to his puzzle and Luffy sits next to him, then grabs one of the rice balls off of Law’s plate. He starts to eat it and Law doesn't even bother to stop him.
Just as he’s about to start writing his next word down, he hears Chopper’s voice.
“Law!”
The little reindeer comes in and looks up at the man. “Law, where did you put some of my books?” Last night Chopper let Law read some books on the nervous system and Fishmen anatomy.
“Oh. I think I accidentally left one of them in the aquarium.” Law gets up and starts to go out the kitchen, Chopper follows him. While he’s gone, Luffy sighs in disappointment. “Tra-guy always has trouble having fun. What’s so fun about this anyway?” Luffy takes the paper and reads through it.
After he reads the instructions, he gets an idea. He grins and grabs the pen Law was using. “I’ll finish this for him, that way he can spend time with me.”
Luffy immediately gets to work.

Law comes back in five minutes and Luffy is still at the table with the beetle he caught and this time he’s eating a cookie he must have gotten from the fridge.
Law goes back over to his spot and grabs his pen. He’s about to go back to his crossword, but as soon as he looks at it, he sees it’s complete. “What the?”
“Surprise!” Luffy shouts. “I did your puzzle for you!”
Law immediately looks annoyed. “What?”
“Now you have no choice but to spend time with me, now that’s it’s done.” Luffy says with a smile. Law growls. “You moron. This is one of the few things that’s keeping me sane from being in this alliance with you.”
“But-“
“You putting a butch random words isn’t you finishing it, it’s just being annoying. Now go away.”
Luffy looks sad and nods. He picks up the jar with his beetle and leaves the kitchen. Once he’s gone, Law huffs in annoyance. “Idiot, probably just put a butch of food names.” Law looks at the puzzle and reads through what Luffy put down.
As he does, he starts to realize something. Every word is correct and fits. A lot of them are words Law didn’t think luffy knew.
Luffy did this?
Law was gone for five minutes and not only did luffy put in the correct words, but he did it in five minutes.
“How did the hell did he do this?” Law stands up and heads to the exit on of the kitchen. In a minute he gets on Deck and he sees Luffy sitting on the floor, letting his beetle crawl on his shoulder. Not too far from him is Usopp who is making modifications to Nami’s weather tact.
“Mugiwara-ya!”
Luffy looks up from playing with his beetle and turns around to see Law coming towards him. “Yeah?”
“How did you do this?”
“Do what?” Luffy ask and Law points to the cross word puzzle. “This?”
“Huh? I just put in the words.”
“Yes I know, but all of these are correct, how did you figure this out?”
“Figure what out?” Usopp ask and goes over to him. “This.” Law says while pointing to the crossword puzzle. “Everything here is correct.”
Usopp doesn’t say anything for a moment, but he chuckles. “Come on, this is Luffy we’re talking about. The same Luffy who ate a year old can of frosting.”
“I’m serious, he did this.”
“Come on Law, stop joking around.”
“I’m not.” Law says with annoyance. He then turns to a different page in the newspaper and finds another puzzle. A Ken Ken Puzzle.
“Here, do this one.” He hand luffy the paper and a pen. Luffy tilts his head before asking “Why?”
“Just do it.” Law says with annoyance. Luffy looks at the paper and frowns. “This is boring. I wanna play with my beetle.” Luffy stands up and walks with away with his beetle still on his shoulder.
Law is completely confused at this point and Usopp pats his back with a chuckle. “See what did I tell you? But good joke though.” Usopp leaves him to go back to his work.
Law picks up the paper and turns back to the cross word puzzle. “Maybe he just got lucky.” He mumbles, but Law shakes his head, no that can’t be the case. Law thinks back to what to what Luffy said when he got back.
He finished it so Law can spend time with him and he didn’t finish it lazily, he did it in a way Law would want it done.
The main thing is that Luffy did it correctly because he thought it would benefit him.
Law thinks a bit more before going to the kitchen. Once he gets in there, he goes to the fridge and gets out a rice ball he was saving for later.
Once he has that, he goes back on deck and looks for Luffy. He sees him on the back of the ship, sitting down and still playing with the insect he caught.
“I’m going to make you a great home, it’ll have everything you like.”
Law goes over to him. “mugiwara-ya. I want you to do one more puzzle, okay?” Luffy crosses his arms and huffs. “But I told you, it’s boring.
“Listen, if you do one more, you can have this.” Law shows him the rice ball wrapped in a napkin and Luffy’s mouth starts to water. “Really?”
Law nods. “All you gotta do is just solve this.”
“Well…okay!” Luffy says with a grin. Law hands him the paper and pen. Luffy looks at the page for about a minute before getting to work. It takes about six minutes for the first three rows to be finished and Law immediately notices how all of them are correct.
