Work Text:
Lucia Noceda is a rising musician.
Amelia Blight broke up with her a week ago.
The touch of an angel, the taste of a drug
They had everything they’d ever asked for. They have sworn to love each other till the end of their lives.
Lucia had never been more in love than she was with Amelia. She would have given her her last breath if it meant to save her from whatever was threatening her.
Lucia wrote albums about Amelia. She dedicated her songs and life to her. She was in love.
The look of a stranger who has seen too much
Lucia hasn’t seen the sunlight for days after Amelia broke up with her. To Willow’s advice though, she decided to go on a walk. She didn’t look up at all, her gaze was glued to her feet, as she put one in front of the other.
She lifted her gaze once. Only to see that face, framed with green hair. Her tired, red, puffy eyes lingered on her for a moment. Amelia looked just as bad as she did. But she walked away.
Their eyes met. They acted like they didn’t know each other.
Amelia’s whole body was shaking. She wanted to be with Lucia more than anything.
Nothing comes for free, but you can pay with your heart
Amelia knew what were the consequences of dating Lucia. She knew what was going to happen if her parents were ever to find out about her relationship with her.
She gave her everything to Lucia and got it back in return. Her heart belonged to Lucia.
But Lucia wasn’t hers anymore.
Nor her heart.
If you got one
They both had a heart. Just not their own. They were still connected, whether it was unfortunate or not. They gave each other their hearts, not even thinking about what would happen if they were ever forced to separate.
Tell me all your questions, all you got to ask
Lucia knew how fucked up Amelia’s parents were. She wanted to help her girlfriend. She offered her support and to never let go of Amelia’s hand. Lucia made sure she was always there for her.
Stays licking his fingers and shuffling the cards
But that wasn’t enough. Amelia’s parents still managed to ruin both of their lives. They controlled her every move and when they found out about her relationship with Lucia, they were furious. They didn’t want their daughter to date a musician whose life depended on how well she was doing in the industry and who didn’t have a stable job. They weren’t entirely okay with her dating a girl, either.
Lucia didn’t know what they did to Amelia. And what they threatened her with. Amelia wanted to spare her from this painful detail.
Amelia knew that Lucia deserved a better life. Free from threats, danger and pain. She could put up with that; she’d done it her whole life. But to put the love of her life through all that too… she didn’t want that.
I’ll give you the talent, you can give me your life
Lucia spent as much time with Amelia, as she could. They even wrote a few songs together. Lucia taught her how to play the guitar. Amelia gave her everything she could, in return. Everything she had.
If you got one
Until she didn’t have anything left.
I swear to God that from tomorrow there will be no more pain
Lucia looked at her feet again. She wasn’t going to follow Amelia with her eyes. Her legs were threatening to run after her.
She had to accept it. Amelia wasn’t hers anymore. And she will never be. This was a kind of pain that she’d carry with her for a while, in the hope that she could heal sometime.
I will cancel your name from each one of my songs
Lucia wrote a bunch of heartbreaking songs in the past week. That was the only thing that helped her to let her emotions out and stay sane. Somewhat sane.
It happened just a week ago. Maybe it was too soon to force herself to fully let go, but if she didn’t want to sink deeper, she had to do something. Lucia had to think about something else. Because right now, all her thoughts were occupied by the girl who once meant everything to her. And she still did, even if she didn’t want to admit that.
And I had the world down to my knees, but to be honest
Lucia had her fame. She wasn’t a well-known artist, but more and more people knew her name. She had what she was dreaming about ever since she was a kid.
I never truly gave a shit when you didn’t come along
So what’s the point of being sad? Of being heartbroken? Why waste any more tears if she has everything she ever wanted? She could still benefit from this. She wrote songs about the breakup, after all. Maybe she could release an album.
Sure, Amelia was important to her. But she had a life without her in it. At least that’s what she tried to believe. People get their hearts broken all the time; why wouldn’t she be able to deal with it too?
Oh, so leave me alone
Lucia had enough of her thoughts. She wanted to enjoy her life again. She wanted to live.
She turned around and started walking in the opposite direction. There was no way she’d go after Amelia.
Amelia.
The most beautiful girl she’d ever seen. She’s gone through so much shit, but her heart was made out of gold. She’s sweet. She showed Lucia how much she can love. How much love she has in her being. And showed her how brave she is. She knew what would happen, but still went against her fears and dated Lucia.
But if she knew what would happen, why did she want this relationship in the first place? They could’ve saved themselves from a terrible heartbreak.
Open up my chest, take everything I’ve got
Would’ve it been better though, if they didn’t have any of the nice things? If none of their dates would’ve happened? Did she really want to pretend like seeing each other wasn’t the best part of their days? Would’ve it really been better if they didn’t even start anything?
Lucia was grateful for the memories. She was glad that she could show Amelia how it feels to be loved dearly. But now, all that was left for her was dread, misery and pain. Would it be fair of Lucia to let Amelia be controlled by her parents’ abuse?
Lucia stopped in her tracks. She turned around, only to see her girl leaning against a wall, smoking a cigarette. She saw her wipe her eyes.
They were further away from each other, so Amelia didn’t see her looking her way.
Lucia felt the same warmth in her chest, that she always felt when she looked at Amelia. She wasn’t ready to give up on her.
She promised Amelia that she’d do anything to protect her. Now it was time to do that. Lucia was willing to do anything she had to. She had a small flat, but it would’ve been enough for the two of them. Or they could even move away from here. The world is theirs and she didn’t want Amelia’s parents to take away their happiness.
It was a bold idea. A terrible one, even. But it didn’t matter. She had to try. If Amelia rejects her, she’ll move on somehow. But at least she’d know that she tried.
Lucia walked, no, ran towards Amelia. Her red, puffy eyes were happy to see her from so close again. Amelia was surprised, her breathing became more uneven than it already was. She dropped the cigarette on the ground and wrapped her arms around Lucia’s neck. She was crying.
Lucia started crying too, her heart breaking once more, after hearing how shattered Amelia was too. She was stroking her back to comfort her.
Suddenly the sun was shining brighter and the world looked more colourful. Lucia had her lover in her arms and nothing else mattered in that moment. When they broke the hug, they looked each other in the eye, seeing all the pain they both went through. Amelia then lifted her hand to gently hold Lucia’s chin and leaned in for a kiss. It was a long, emotional and sweet kiss. Tears were rolling down their cheeks, but these were happy tears.
They were both terrified of the fact that they might never be able to kiss again. Still, it happened. Their hug afterwards was a promise to never let go of each other again. Lucia rested her chin on Amelia’s head, holding her as close as possible. She was shaking like a leaf.
But Lucia assured her that she’d be there to protect her. That she won’t let anyone tear them apart again. They’d come up with a solution which would allow them to stay together. But right now, only they existed.
No problems, no worries, no pain. Just the two of them.
