Work Text:
It was surreal seeing the difference between the Klavier that was perceived by the public and the person that Klavier was to Apollo. Of course, there were aspects that the public were correct about. Obviously Klavier was gorgeous, whether they were looking up close in person or afar in videos or billboards, and anyone could tell that he was a talented performer and someone who was very passionate about his music. Him being hardworking, disciplined and having a strong sense of justice were only logical to assume of someone who maintained two careers in both law and the creative arts. These were aspects of him that were clear to anyone, a personal connection not being necessary to identify them.
But people spoke of Klavier like he was untouchable, perfect, to a point where any regular person could never possibly match up to him.
The thing was, Klavier had always been a person. An admirable, brilliant, and very charming person, but nevertheless a person. Apollo never felt like he was looking up towards Klavier (figuratively speaking, since Klavier did like to playfully remind Apollo that he needed to do so in the literal sense). Apollo hadn’t even known of Klavier’s celebrity status before meeting him; his very introduction to him was knowing him as Kristoph Gavin’s younger brother. They had met on the same level, on an even playing field across from each other, with mutual respect.
Klavier was far from perfect. While many saw Klavier with immaculate presentation, Apollo had seen how dishevelled he looked when he woke up first thing in the morning. Apollo had witnessed the messy side that came with Klavier’s passion for music, such as the snappy frustration he could display when something went awry during a performance, or his stubbornness at 3am refusing to go to bed until the arrangement he was fixated on had been worked to perfection. While Klavier was cool and composed in public, Apollo saw his pain in private, fighting his inner battles in the face of broken trust and estranged family.
But ultimately, the imperfect Klavier was the one that was perfect for him.

Klavier as your boyfriend: A Thread (1/28)

There were thousands who loved to imagine what Klavier would be like as their partner, fantasising about what suave moves he would pull to have the object of his affections weak at the knees. Some of these imaginings were inspired from what Klavier had said in interviews or portrayed on stage, while others were just outright projections onto him of what they already wanted. But Apollo was the only one lucky enough to know what it was actually like to have Klavier’s affections.
What would people think if they really knew who had been the one falling more head-over-heels for whom?
It had been perplexing at first, realising the level of interest that Klavier had in him. The way Klavier would find the most minor excuses about an investigation just to strike up another conversation with Apollo. How Klavier would play with his hair while talking to him, in a way that could be assumed as a way for a celebrity to draw attention to it, but which Apollo accurately perceived as a nervous habit. The flirtatious teasing, the special nicknames, Klavier risked making himself look like an entire fool chasing Apollo, an unexpected dynamic that Apollo had not experienced before.
Once they became a couple, it was almost overwhelming for Apollo to be on the receiving end of the amount of adoration Klavier held in his eyes, but not in a bad way. Despite Klavier having been regularly around beautiful people and glamourous environments, none of them made him as enthusiastic as Apollo just being Apollo. It was as if he could find a way to compliment Apollo on his mere breathing. Apollo’s quirks were viewed as endearing, his every thought considered valuable, his attitudes seen as attractive.
Apollo adjusted to Klavier’s ways of showing affection, responding in the same types of ways, since Klavier was so happy upon receiving it in turn. Praise given to Klavier’s work or his presentation had him on a high for the rest of the day. Apollo every now and then being the one to initiate physical touch or send an appreciative message out of the blue in the middle of the night had such meaning to Klavier. Apollo had never considered himself before to be naturally inclined to such actions, and maybe he hadn’t been, but he found himself gravitating to doing them more often for not only Klavier, but for himself as well.

There was much that Apollo had anticipated in theory that would come up when dating Klavier Gavin.
He knew that between Klavier’s role as a prosecutor by day, and performances by night, finding time to spend together was going to be a challenge. And that wasn’t even taking into account Apollo’s own workload. He knew that his and Klavier’s lifestyles were significantly different in terms of their experiences, finances, and recreation. And he knew that, as someone in the public eye, Klavier would need to be wary of how dating was incorporated into his life.
Apollo had thought he was aware of how to approach the fact that Klavier had a lot of dedicated fans, or “stans” as Trucy had referred to them, not that Apollo knew the difference. He was completely fine with dating Klavier in more private settings, limited more to late nights together in each other's homes. Apollo knew Klavier wasn’t exactly going to flaunt Apollo as his boyfriend in front of the media and the fans, not with his own public image to consider. Apollo knew this going in, and yet he still accepted that it was how it was going to be. To an extent, much was as he had expected.
What Apollo wasn’t prepared for was the speculation. The level of which Klavier’s private life was micro-analysed from anyone who got access to a crumb.

Apollo asked Klavier early in their relationship what it was like to have such a thing as a dedicated fandom. He wasn’t asking in the wide-eyed sense as if it were an enviable thing to have, but asking out of practicality. How did such a thing impact Klavier's day-to-day life? How did he personally even feel about that aspect of his life?
“It’s… complicated,” Klavier had answered. “It’s a unique position to be in. Of course, I’m grateful for my fans, and I care about them. They’re passionate people who supported me and got my music career to the place it is today. It couldn’t have happened without them.” Klavier’s thumb swivelled at the ring on his middle finger.
“But?” Apollo pressed.
“But when it comes to the negatives…” Klavier frowned. “I try to separate the bad people from the good. There are bad people everywhere, we both see it all the time, so it’s not fair to group them with the people who aren’t.”
“What kind of bad people?” Apollo asked worriedly.
“Argh, just…” he considered his wording. Both of his jobs relied on correct wording. “People who say things about me that don’t represent me. People with awful behaviour that associate said behaviour with my image. Or people who cross the line and dig further into my life than I ever gave an invitation to do.” His ring spinning continued at a slow, consistent pace. “There’s always a lingering worry that I don’t have anything to myself. I’m not really given a chance to just… exist with no strings attached.”
Klavier shook his head and exhaled in an attempt at a laugh. “I’m being so cliché, aren’t I? Privileged rockstar complaining about a lack of normalcy in their life. I chose this, and I continue to choose it. My life has been anything but normal for a long time now, and I wouldn’t wish for my path to have been different. Every path has its negatives.”
“That is true,” Apollo said. “But that doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t be bothered by them.”
Klavier smiled and reached for Apollo’s hand. “You’re someone I’m grateful to feel normal around,” he said. “I can be myself with you.”

A lot had changed in Klavier’s life when he disbanded the Gavinners. The reputation of the band itself was left with the stain of a member becoming a convicted murderer. Then shortly after Daryan, Klavier’s brother was also a convicted murderer… for the second time. Klavier had been made to re-evaluate what was important to him, and what he wanted to do for himself. He chose to prioritise his career in law and became significantly less active musically. He still did the occasional solo performance as a guest appearance on a show or at an event, but he stepped away from the central limelight of his celebrity role.
He couldn’t cease the actual process of creating art however, that was core to him regardless of if he had made a career out of it or not. But now he could do it for himself, creating the melodies his heart desired, rather than having to consider factors such as public appeal, charting likelihood, assigning parts to band members or matching with their brand and image.
Apollo listened in as Klavier worked on his own music sometimes, when the two of them would spend quiet evenings at Klavier’s penthouse in each other’s company. Apollo would sit on the couch with a drink in hand, depending on the day whether it was a warm beverage or alcoholic, and Klavier would idly pull out an acoustic guitar and start strumming or plucking. It was fascinating, hearing what came from Klavier’s mind and observing which order of notes he would pick-up on to attach himself towards and continue to play with and follow. There was one series of notes Apollo liked to hear the most that he noticed Klavier often repeating and fixing.
“What’s that one you’re working on?” Apollo asked.
“This one, well…” Klavier smiled. “It’s what I think about when I think of you.”
“Me?” Apollo frowned. “I don’t think anything about that sounds like me. Nor does it sound like a love song.”
“A love song is not what I’m going for,” Klavier said. “More like… a melody that represents the light I see across the bench when you make a breakthrough, your pure honesty, the assurance that everything will be fine. It’s simple right now, but I hope to make a whole arrangement out of it once I’m completely satisfied with it.”
“Oh,” Apollo blinked. “That’s… kinda sweet.”
Klavier amusedly reached over and flicked the hair that hung over Apollo’s forehead, the segment that would usually be gelled up into his usual horns but lay flat for now. “You underestimate yourself, mein Schatz,” he said. “I could write an entire soundtrack so long as you are my muse.”
“What would people say about a release like that?”
“We’d never know, because they won’t get to hear it. I don’t want to share such a thing with them,” Klavier declared. “Such music would be just for us.”
Despite the breakup of the Gavinners, the fandom remained active. Sure, it was more fragmented than it was before, and in disarray with everything that had happened since the concert with Lamiroir, but it was just as loud and passionate. Despite Klavier stepping away, he had still been the front-man of the band, the one the fans were still most eager to keep up with, and so if he took a step back, they would take another step forward to follow.

Between both of their hectic lives and schedules, any time they could find together was precious.
“Apollo,” Klavier called him in the middle of the day. “I’ve ended up in your area on investigation today. It wrapped up faster than anticipated, so I have an hour or two free if you’re available?”
Apollo briefly looked over his remaining files, mentally reshuffling his pace for completing them for if he were to spend some time away from them with Klavier. It would work. “I’m available. Meet me at the same People Park spot again in say, ten minutes?”
“Perfect, see you soon.”
People Park had become one of their few regular public locations to meet up. It was convenient as a location, the public that went there were more relaxed and unobservant to the point it was comfortable for them, and it had significance as the location where they had met.
Klavier was waiting by the gate at the entrance, warmth brimming in his eyes as he smiled at Apollo’s approach. As there was nobody around, Klavier leaned forward to give Apollo a quick peck as he arrived.
“I’m so glad you were free,” Klavier said. “It’s such a bright afternoon, I figured we could go for a walk, get a snack.”
“Easy.”
They walked the path through the park as Klavier filled Apollo in on the updates of his current case, of which fortunately nobody in the Wright Anything Agency was involved, thus permitting the talk about it. As they walked, Klavier absentmindedly reached over to rest his arm around Apollo’s shoulders. It was just too easy, with Apollo being at the perfect height for him to do so. That in itself wouldn’t have been an issue, easily explainable as Klavier’s usual friendly touchiness, only he then gradually pulled Apollo closer, until their sides were pressed together as they walked in step with each other, with Klavier’s chest right there for Apollo to easily lead his head into.
Apollo let it happen. It was a pleasant day, they were warm, they were happy, and nobody around was paying attention to them. Why should he and his boyfriend deny themselves something as simple as a brief date in the park?

I’m kind of uncomfortable with this photo? It doesn’t look like he knows someone was taking it where did you get this???? Please delete please respect his privacy
It was a number of days later, when Apollo was completing the last of the file buildup on his desk at the Wright Anything Agency.
“Polly…”
Apollo turned from his desk to look to the doorway, where Trucy was standing. His stomach dropped at the first look at her; her face was downcast, her shoulders were tight, and she was holding onto her phone at such a distance that Apollo knew that something on there was wrong.
Trucy stepped into the office, holding her phone out further towards Apollo. “Someone’s…”
Apollo took it out of her hand to look at what was displayed on the screen.
It was himself.
More accurately, it was himself and Klavier. It was from a distance, so only Klavier was really identifiable to the average person in the photo, especially since his partner’s face was obscured by Klavier’s body itself. But Apollo recognised his own self instantly. It was their exact position, Klavier’s arm around his shoulders, pulling him inwards, so that only Apollo’s hair spikes could really be seen. It was taken on their walk at People Park, obviously without their knowledge. Heck, he could see blurred leaves in the edges of the photo. What the hell? Where had the photographer been hiding? Had the photographer already found out they would be there somehow, or did they just somehow happen to be there by coincidence and spot them? The lack of answers only made it more unsettling. How were they supposed to guard themselves against invasions of privacy again?
Apollo closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose, weighing his options while Trucy continued to stand by worriedly. He supposed his first move would be to make sure Klavier and himself were on the same page at least.
Apollo reached for his own mobile phone and dialled Klavier’s number.
“Apollo.” Klavier answered on the first ring.
“Klavier, someone’s-”
“I know,” he interrupted. “My manager already informed me.”
There was an uncomfortable pause.
“I’m sorry,” Apollo tried to push through it. “I didn’t want you to have to deal with something like this.”
A sigh from the other end. “It’s not your fault,” Klavier said. “It was my idea in the first place. I got too careless.”
“I could’ve stopped us.”
“Either way, the situation is what it is now.”
Another pause.
“So… what do we…” Apollo hesitated. “...do now?”
“It’s not your job to worry about that, Apollo,” Klavier sighed. “My team and I will figure out a solution. It may be that all you and I need to do is just… lay low.”
Apollo frowned. “So what would that entail?”
“It’s best if we don’t physically get close or meet for the time being,” Klavier said. “Including at home, since we don’t know for sure whether that photo was incidental or if stalking is a high risk just yet. At least until some time has passed. If people think it was just a one-off meeting and there’s no follow-up evidence, we can wait out their attention spans.”
Waiting out their attention spans. Apollo’s stomach churned. How long could that take? He’d gained enough knowledge of people out there to know that some people could be very fixated for a long time.

Maybe Apollo hadn’t been considerate enough of Klavier’s lifestyle when they got together.
Klavier already had enough on his plate even without taking Apollo into account. His prominent law career, the entire re-adjustment of his music one, the grief that remained fresh over the revelations of his friend and his older brother, the media trying to press for more details on all these factors, the ever constant invasion of his privacy, constantly having to keep his guard up should they catch him in a moment of vulnerability. It was a lot to ask him to balance a relationship on top of that. Especially since the pressure of their relationship was split unevenly between the two; by circumstance, Klavier was always going to have to carry more of it than Apollo.
While mainstream media hadn’t been reporting on the gossip relating to Klavier, social media outlets were a different story. Apollo saw the same photo of themselves many times over, as it was used as the thumbnail of multiple clickbait articles that regurgitated the same speculation over who Apollo could be and his significance to Klavier. As much as Apollo avoided online fandom, he found himself catching wind of the “stans”, and the way their attention spans did not seem to be dwindling. Unfortunately, it seemed to be the opposite, in that the lack of update drove their motivation to find something more themselves.
In addition to physically staying away from each other, Klavier had also been doing his individual part. He had quietened down his public social media presence, keeping his posts to only the occasional innocuous instagram story so as to not draw further attention to himself, but without the suspicion that a complete blackout would bring.
But that wasn’t fair. Klavier wouldn’t have had these additional burdens to deal with if it weren’t for Apollo. The both of them had been too swept up in the rush of their feelings to properly consider the risks and timing of their relationship. Klavier especially had been too absorbed in Apollo, and probably too avoidant, to have denied it of himself despite it becoming clearer that it was to his detriment. Perhaps he was becoming aware of the consequences of that now, after the impact on himself and his image. Apollo should have been the one to take responsibility on behalf of the both of them before that happened.
Apollo lay on his bed, staring at his message history with Klavier. While they had maintained regular, near daily contact digitally to make up for their physical separation, it had been affected by the situation. Their conversations carried a tone that danced around the central issue, not completely relaxed. It consisted of much less of their prior playful banter, and more checking in for updates on what Klavier’s manager was saying now, or calls made late into the night informing the other on what case they were currently working on. The latter updates were welcome in themselves, since they hadn’t crossed over on any cases at all lately, likely deliberate so that Klavier and Apollo wouldn’t physically interact in court either.
Apollo missed him. He expressed as such in their messages and calls, and Klavier responded in agreement, but it wasn’t enough to just say it through a screen or call. He needed Klavier’s presence by the side of his own again, just for themselves without fearing the spying eyes of others. And he needed to be able to read him properly if they were to have the conversation he wanted them to have.

The existence of the Prosecutor’s Building was a blessing in disguise. It gave Apollo the opportunity to encounter Klavier in a way that made sense in accordance to where his job would take him, and could also be out of the public eye. Or at least, if other prosecutors weren’t counted as part of the public. He didn’t have any other pressing reasons to be at the Prosecutor’s Building for the time being, but he figured his excuse if he were to be questioned would be that he needed to look into some archives.
When arriving at the building, Apollo took the elevator up to the floor he knew Klavier’s office was located. He decided to be as discreet as possible by not asking anybody if Klavier was in office. Apollo knew the likelihood based on Klavier’s update on how his investigation was going, and he would take his chances by checking himself. There was a glance or two from passing lawyers and security in the building, but nobody took any pressing notice.
Apollo stood in the corridor outside of Klavier’s office, staring at the face of the closed door, preparing himself. He took a deep breath and knocked.
“Come in,” came Klavier’s voice on the other side of the door.
Apollo entered, closing the door behind him.
Klavier was sitting at his desk, his expression neutral as he stacked papers atop it. When he looked up to see who was entering, his lips parted and his eyes widened as they landed on Apollo. He quickly stood up, some of the papers spilling to the side.
“Apollo,” he gasped. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?”
“Because you would have told me not to.”
Klavier didn’t answer, knowing he didn’t have an argument against that statement. He warily made his way over to the windows of his office, glancing out before adjusting the angle of the shades so as light still came through, but it would be difficult for anyone outside to peer in from any adjacent buildings or rooftops. Once he was satisfied with the positioning of the shades, he took a matter of strides to reach Apollo, grabbing him by his shoulders and pulling him into a kiss.
Apollo briefly startled at the sudden action, but quickly and unthinkingly fell into the feeling of Klavier’s lips against his own once again. It was as if he had forgotten how well they fit together in their absence. The warmth of Klavier’s body temperature, his breath, the scent of his cologne, were sensations that could not be transferred through a screen, and Apollo’s senses drank them in like he had been parched, their effect stronger and heightened after time away from them. Apollo’s hands gravitated to Klavier’s waist, holding him by each side, as Klavier sighed pleasantly into Apollo’s mouth. He’d missed holding him like this.
They broke their kiss to catch their breaths, although Klavier remained with his hands at Apollo’s shoulders, and Apollo’s dropped slightly so that they were at Klavier’s hips.
“I’m sorry,” Klavier exhaled. “I didn’t even wait for you to say anything else. I just saw you were there and…”
“I understand,” Apollo said. “I wanted it too.”
“Why did you come?”
“I wanted to talk. Properly.”
As it was, Apollo was wavering in his original intention. Everything in Klavier’s body language was still screaming longing. Every part of him was faced directly, front-and-centre, towards Apollo. Klavier’s thumbs were stroking back and forth absentmindedly where he held Apollo’s shoulders, and his eyes hadn’t looked away since the moment they had joined together. He was likely going to resist Apollo’s suggestion, which Apollo himself was hesitating to even make at this point.
Klavier bit his lip at the tone of Apollo’s voice in his mention of the desire to talk.
“I… I don’t think…” Apollo started. “I don’t think this… works. For us. The effects of us being together like this… I don’t think we should be risking that anymore.”
Klavier’s face fell. It was a resigned way of falling, rather than shocked as Apollo had predicted. His gaze drifted downwards. “I know,” he said. “I’d been holding on selfishly to the desire to act as any other couple can with you, and such a choice is only going to have more consequences.”
Their words were saying one thing, but their hold on each other was not budging.
“You’re not at fault for that. I have been selfish myself,” Apollo said. “But I know you have a public image to maintain, and it’s just too much to ask of you to-”
“I have a what?”
“A-” Apollo stopped. Klavier’s eyes were focused directly on him once again, this time with a sudden interrogative spark. “Is that not the risk in discussion here?”
“Schatz, nein ,” Klavier said. “You think my worries about our relationship are about my… my reputation?”
“Yes?” Apollo said. “It’s important to you, is it not? What were you talking about if not that, then?”
“It’s a factor of my life that I acknowledge, yes, but-” Klavier let go of Apollo’s shoulders and reached for where Apollo’s hands were still at his hips. He removed Apollo’s hands and held them in both of his own, bringing them up so that he could kiss Apollo’s knuckles. “You are… indescribably more important than that.”
“O-Oh…” Apollo stammered. While he had gotten used to Klavier’s strong words of affection for the most part, there were still occasional times like this where he would say and do something that would make Apollo’s face turn red.
“The reason I worry so much about the state of our relationship is not for some image of mine,” Klavier reassured. “My image isn’t my priority anymore. I don’t rely on it to be able to share my music with the world, I’ve made it past that point.”
“If that’s the case, then what was all this caution for then?!”
“I was worried about you !” Klavier said, stroking his thumbs over Apollo’s hands as he gripped them more tightly. “You didn’t sign up for this sort of world. Being in the public eye is such a risk, and it’s not something you can completely take back. You being able to live the life you have now with those you care about is so precious, and I wouldn’t ever want to be responsible for taking that away from you.”
“I knew this already when I chose you though,” Apollo said. “Technically, I did sign up for this.”
“I don’t want you to have to do that,” Klavier’s eyebrows knitted together. “If you lost your privacy, security, or worse, if you got hurt by someone, because of me… I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself.”
Apollo raised his head and slightly raised himself on his toes to kiss Klavier on his forehead, as if it could smoothen out the frown that had taken place there on his face.
“The way I see it,” Apollo said. “There isn’t much more risk to me than what I’ve already encountered through my life choices already.”
Klavier shifted the grip he had on Apollo’s hands and adjusted so that he could interlock his fingers with Apollo’s. “But you deserve someone who can give you the stable relationship that’s best for you. Someone who you don’t have to give up a sense of normalcy for, who you can love without an audience.”
“But you’re the one I want,” Apollo assured. “And what was that you said before? That any path has its negative aspects? But that doesn’t mean you don’t choose them at all. And it’s especially worth it to me for the one I love.”
Klavier stared at Apollo, his eyes glistening as every word Apollo spoke sank into him.
“I don’t care if there are strangers out there who don’t like me by nature of who I am to you,” Apollo continued. “I’ll take them. If my life changes from here, well, it’s changed plenty of times before already. If it’s inevitably part of the path that choosing you means, then so be it. I’m choosing it anyway.”
It was Klavier’s turn to be struck by Apollo’s actions. Too overwhelmed to form his own words in response, he instead leaned in to kiss Apollo once again.

It wasn’t the launch of an official solo album or anything, but it was something Klavier decided to release for his audience. And also for himself as well if he were to be honest. It wasn’t exactly new music; he had simply re-recorded one of the Gavinners’ hit songs, Guilty Love, on his own. It was the song out of their biggest hits that Klavier had taken the most control of, writing both the composition and lyrics by himself, and the one he felt the most comfortable with as a representation of his image. Re-recording it himself let him take it back to become more his own.
Apollo was at Klavier’s penthouse again at the time the song was scheduled to drop. They had resumed their physical time together, and Klavier had specifically chosen that night for Apollo to be at his place.
“Apollo, it drops in five minutes, you should listen to it when it comes out,” Klavier sat down next to where Apollo sat on the couch, nudging at his shoulder.
“Is this a one-person release party or something?” Apollo remarked. “I was going to listen to it anyway.”
“As much as I love getting the supportive boyfriend stream,” Klavier joked. “I want you to listen closely.”
Apollo raised his eyebrows before shrugging and moving to untangle his headphones before the song came out, because yes, he was one of the few people still holding onto the usage of wired headphones.
When the clock hit the hour, Apollo navigated to the official streaming app on his phone and hit play on the newest single on Klavier’s profile. It opened with an introduction of drums and electric guitar, just as it had in the original group track, only with the instrumental updated. Klavier’s vocals soon entered the track, clear and warm. His voice had definitely developed since the original recording, the extra years of practice and age adding to its richness. Apollo listened through the track’s verse and chorus, nodding his head to the familiarity of it while Klavier observed him with a knowing smile.
After about two minutes into the song, at the electric guitar break, Apollo abruptly sat upwards. While the original guitar solo was still there, the signature one Klavier performed in concerts and also liked to play in court sometimes, something about the song had changed. When the usual piece was in its last notes, it transitioned instead of completed, changing into a new melody. Only it wasn’t a new melody at all, at least to Apollo, who had heard its very beginnings from the acoustic guitar on the very couch he sat on.
“Hold it!” Apollo turned to Klavier, tugging the headphones off his ears before he could hear the rest of the song. “I thought you said you weren’t sharing that!”
“I believe I said I wasn’t going to share an entire soundtrack that had been written of you,” Klavier was grinning. “But I can give them a little taste of the Apollo Justice melody. Which, by the way, I recently gained a vision of making into an orchestral style track at some point.”
“But why did you choose to include it into Guilty Love?”
“Is it not obvious?” Klavier smiled and tilted his head. “If this song represents me and the start of a new stage in my life, it’s only natural I would want the man who inspired it to be represented as well.”
Apollo felt a thrilled smile growing on his own face. He was a part of the song of Klavier, their representative melodies flowing together seamlessly, for the world to hear even if they weren’t aware of the significance. He was part of Klavier himself, and proud to be so. Apollo tossed his phone to the side as he turned to Klavier and cupped his face in his hands, pulling him in for an eager and appreciative kiss.
Apollo would never, ever, regret the choice he had made.
