Work Text:

it’s the first time suguru is going to be away from home— from his family and his little village and a life that’s become an easy routine for him. so it’s safe to say that he’s terrified out of his mind.

tokyo is loud and bustling and everything he’s not used to. for a brief moment, he contemplates getting on the next train and going back to where he came from.

once he reaches jujutsu high, however, the nervous twist of his gut dies down. instead, he feels butterflies fluttering about inside him. sure, he’s nervous. but he’s also excited. his entire life is going to change once he gets past that gate. he hopes he can get along with everyone, that he can grow into a fine sorcerer someday.

his immediate concern, however, is that he ends up with a good roommate— or at least, a fairly decent one. he can only hope that he doesn’t end up with some snobby tokyo brat— that would be literal hell. he shudders as he walks into the dorm room, gulping nervously when he sees the half dozen posh suitcases dumped on one side of the room. oh god, it’s already starting to look like his fears are coming to life.

turns out, suguru could not be more wrong. satoru is nothing like he’d imagined.

yes, he’s a bit of an oddball. with his silver hair and his blue eyes and his perpetual pout. everything he owns looks like it’s a designer label. he’s a picture-perfect bougie boy.

but contrary to his appearance and his fancy things, satoru is just a normal guy. he eats miso soup for breakfast— putting in an alarming amount of sugar in the broth; suguru’s going to overlook that, yeah. he also rides the bus, sometimes dozing off on suguru’s shoulder. it’s absolutely hilarious— and alarming— how he rushes through missions on fridays, finishing things off as soon as possible so that he can hurry back to the dorm to catch the new digimon episode. he also has a waka inoue poster above his bed, and the same photo as his wallpaper too. it’s a little bit off-putting having to walk into the dorm and get greeted by her big boobs, but suguru will take it.

all in all, suguru feels like he really lucked out on things. satoru is a decent guy— he’s normal. just like suguru is. only… not really.

you see…

satoru is an omega.

truth be told, suguru only came to find out that satoru is an omega one night when shoko had come to deliver a packet of medicine one night. the blisters were big and suguru had been concerned for satoru’s well being.

“you okay, satoru?”

satoru hadn’t even blinked, simply popping one of the tabs and taking out the pill. he’d swallowed it just like that, dry. “yeah, it’s just my heat suppressants.”

suguru still has no clue what he meant by that. maybe people with sub genders don’t handle the heat well and have to suppress it. if he gives it a second thought, he’d realise how stupid that sounds, given how it’s fall season at the moment.

see, the thing is… although suguru has heard of omegas before— he doesn’t live under a rock, after all— but he’s only heard of them only in passing. secondary genders are quite a rarity, even more so than jujutsu sorcerers. everyone from his home time is just like him— ordinary. he’s never met anyone with an inner wolf before. this too is a first time for him.

after a couple of months of spending most of his time with satoru— going on missions and sharing the dorm— suguru comes to the conclusion that being an omega isn't that much different from being a normal person. it's a relief that satoru doesn't turn into a wolf during full moon.

the only thing that really stands out and catches suguru’s attention is how satoru gets all feverish once a month, snarky and sensitive. shoko always brings over a fresh batch of that same magic medicine during those days. but suguru still has to be extra careful around satoru for the week. it's a bit like being around his big sister during that time of the month, suguru muses.

then, there's the fact that satoru has an insane sweet tooth. he's always chewing on some sort of candy or popsicle at all times. perhaps it's an oral fixation— stop it suguru! stop lewding the guy!!

now that he thinks about it, the second part is probably just a satoru thing.

but it is also this second part that suguru finds extremely endearing. so much so that he starts getting satoru sweets whenever he goes to the conbini. satoru doesn't ever say anything when he accepts them but there's a gleeful little spark in his eyes every time.

when suguru goes back home for the holidays, he returns with strawberries from their farm, sweet just like satoru likes them. he makes crepe for breakfast every weekend, bursting into laughter when satoru gets a whipped cream moustache.

he even prolongs his solo misison in sendai just to wait in line and nab some kikufuku mochi for satoru. it is during his train ride from sendai to tokyo that he realises that maybe he might have a bit of a crush on satoru.

and it is when satoru receives the mochi with the softest smile on his flushed face, eyes twinkling like stars— it is then that suguru realises that— oh fuck, he's definitely crushing on satoru.

such is the power of kikufuku mochi that satoru calls suguru out the very next day, under the sakura tree in the park opposite the school— quite out of their way, considering how they could just talk in the privacy of their dorm room.

"here, i got u this," satoru mutters under his breath, pushing a box of cigarettes into suguru’s arms. he's blushing, suguru realised, feeling a blush bloom on his own cheeks.

"thanks," suguru stutters out, confused because satoru has, on many occasions, mentioned loathing the smell and asking him to take his smoke breaks beyond a two kilometer radius.

for a solid ten minutes, they just stand under the sakura tree, with the falling petals tickling suguru’s nostrils. the air is thick and the tension keeps building with every second that passes, getting thicker and thicker… until suguru decides to fuck it. he needs a smoke.

it's embarrassing how his fingers tremble as he pops a cigarette into his mouth, cursing when he realises he's forgotten his lighter.

"i uh—" satoru clears his throat, instantly bringing sugurus attention immediately to him. "i like you too."

holy shit—

sugurus's jaw drops and the cigarette falls from his mouth, unceremoniously onto the ground. he blinks, once, twice, noting how pinch satoru’s face is. and how his lashes are lowered shyly.

holy shit.

satoru likes him?! suguru makes a garbled noise, gulping audibly before choking out, incredulously, "oh." he shakes his head and tries again. "oh wow… okay— that's crazy… u like me?"

"yeah," satoru says, looking everywhere but at suguru. his lashes are fluttering at the speed of light and he’s chewing nervously into his trembling lover lip. and he's so fucking adorable like this.

suguru wants to kiss him.

fuck it. he is going to kiss him.

satoru gasps when suguru reaches out to cup his face and tug him down in the softest of kisses, just a feathers brush of their lips. neither know what they're doing but it's tender and sweet and wonderful.

when they pull back, they're both smiling, shit eating grins mirroring each other.

"wait," suguru says, suddenly remembering satoru,s exact words. he'd said he liked suguru too . "how did you find out that i liked u?" god, he hopes he wasn't being too embarrassingly obvious.

satoru blinks, looking taken aback. "i mean..." he squints, clearly confused. "you have been courting me for months with all those sweets." he grins, blush getting darker, prettier. it’s no fair, he’s getting suguru all distracted again and it’s goddamn hard not to tug him back down for another kiss. but suguru forces himself to focus on satoru’s words, frowning in confusion because he has no idea when he courted satoru– in fact, he has no idea what satoru even means by that. they don’t even have a court anywhere on campus so—

“anyway,” satoru sing songs, lips curled all the way up in a dazzling smile. "i got to thinking... it wouldn't be so bad to have you as a mate, you know?"

a mate? suguru briefly wonders if satoru wants to move to australia. he wouldn't mind but that's probably not what mate means.

whatever it is, satoru is smiling and they're kissing under the sakura tree, fingers intertwined, hearts the same. everything is wonderful and suguru wouldn’t change things for the world.

later, suguru discovers that being mates means lots of sex and lots of cuddles and having to help relieve satoru’s ‘heats’ with some tender loving care. suguru also finds out that satoru has a biting kink, what with how he keeps asking suguru to bite the same spot on his neck every night and mark him forever.

being mates with satoru is, no doubt, out of the ordinary.

but hey, suguru isn't complaining.
