‘WELCOME TO JJK VERSE’
‘PROCEED?’
[Yes] [No]
The cursor hovered over the ‘Yes’ button and a soft sound of click from the mouse was heard.
‘Welcome back. You’re playing as…
A SORCERER’
Megumi sipped on his water bottle nonchalantly, his gaze tearing away from the main monitor to look at the other. In the corner of the screen, he saw his face recording his every reaction as well as the stream of comments taking up most of the space.
“Chat, was the new update any good? I heard it’s horror-themed.”
He waited for seconds before the chat box was flooded with answers. Some of the replies were positive, he notes, nodding slowly in satisfaction. “That’s good.”
From the main monitor where the game is playing, the screen flashes white and Megumi returns his gaze to watch a small cut scene of the mission he had last taken. A quick recap of what had transpired the other time. Megumi saw his summons and his character in a fighting stance and was facing off against a giant cursed spirit terrorizing a particular abandoned building. He took notice of an NPC at the corner wearing an animated reaction, obviously frightened and hiding on a wall, instantly recalling this random character’s backstory.
“Oh, yeah. We protected this guy, don’t we?” Megumi remarked, eyes fixed on the cut scene before him. “Mission was a success, at least. Max Elephant was a good choice for an offense against that huge cursed spirit. What do you guys think?”
Seconds later, his chat was swarmed again with compliments, criticism, and random spam.
Once the cut scene is finished, the screen flashes again which signals that the recap is over, now revealing his character simply lying in bed, reading a book as if he was waiting for the master to return. Megumi shifted on his chair to glimpse at the flow of endless comments on the other monitor, then straightened up when he spotted a particular familiar name belonging to one of his viewers used for a username.
“Hold on, this reminds me… Won’t Yuuji go live today?” His eyes scanned the chat, reading as fast as he could since some of the comments were too quick to go by.
BananaEater03: Yep! Yuuji will go live in a few minutes.
Megyunitism: It’s almost starting too!!1
SpiderEntity: Yooo. Heard he’s gonna do unboxing?
YujissPillow: How could you forget bro.?
Megumi nodded, his mouse clicking on the ‘stop’ button to remove the screen viewing that displays his game screen from the live audience to access his personal data, away from the prying eyes of his fans for privacy. A close-up shot of his face instead replaced the gaming screen while he proceeded to go to YouTube on another window tab and click on his friend’s account.
Indeed, Yuuji had already started streaming but only had just started quite recently since the screen displays an animated countdown timer.
[5 minutes 43 seconds]
‘THANKS FOR WAITING!’
‘Shout out to LiliacDraws for this wonderful art!’
Attached next to the timer is a magnificent art piece of Yuuji’s character with a vigorous expression, punching the air with cursed energy encircling his fists. On the other side is a stream of comments from the waiting audience.
“Looks like we got five minutes left.” Megumi stretched and leaned back on his chair, shifting once again into a comfortable position and eyeing his stream chat to read their banters while he waited.
Then, something flashed on the other monitor and Megumi glanced at it curiously with narrowed eyes. His communication app is open, one that is linked to JJK Verse, and realizes that Nobara is calling him from the Team Sorcerers! group chat.
He released a weary sigh, reaching to grab the mouse almost lazily. “Guys, Nobara is calling me right now. I guess this won’t be another quiet day for me.”
Having no choice left as he saw his team members currently online and on a call with Nobara, he pressed the ‘answer’ button and braced himself in preparation for his extraordinary friends. When Megumi entered the call, he was greeted by the sight of profile icons, glowing or mute, from his friends. Megumi proceeded to click on the view button so that his watchers could also see the screen he was looking at, which was Yuuji’s live video.
“Hey, looks who’s here!” It was Maki’s voice who greeted first.
“Hello, Megumi!” Yuuta came next.
Then, Nobara decided to screech on her microphone. “Finally, I’ve been trying to call you, damn idiot!”
“You’ve only reached out to me just now.” Megumi deadpans.
“Hey, hey, hey, is that the voice of my dear, cute, little student I’m hearing?”
“Wow, Gojo-sensei, you certainly took quite a long dump out there.”
“I wasn’t shitting!” Gojo shouted defensively, to which Megumi had to lower his com’s volume. “I already said that I was gonna grab some ice cream!”
“Yeah? That suspiciously took longer than expected though.”
Immediately, Megumi’s chat was overwhelmed with comments and emojis and stuff that he did not want to even read. It’s understandable, of course, considering that he’s in the presence of some of the top players in JJK Verse. Some of his viewers were notably big fans of the people he’s talking with right now, mostly Gojo’s. Which is annoying for Megumi’s part.
Satoru Gojo is, regrettably, the strongest sorcerer as a player in the JJK Verse.
Mentioning the fact that the game had its fair share of fame as one of the top multiplayer online role-playing and combat-focused games in the world. Having possessed the title of the best action and adventure game from previous years and been nominated numerous times due to fan favorite choice, voting even as one from the Game Awards.
Since this game was chosen as the game of the year one particular time, thus, having millions of people across the globe try out or play this masterpiece for years, it was obvious enough to spark a wild reaction from Megumi’s stream chat when Gojo made a sudden appearance all of the sudden. Having unanticipated this collaboration while it was unplanned and out of the blue, causing a rumbunctious attitude Megumi garnered from his fans in the process.
His other friends were also a streamer like him and had amassed many subscribers or followers as well throughout the years of gaming of their own. The only difference was that Gojo was a content creator and—annoyingly—a sought-after model, gaining millions of followers on his name.
Such qualities are praised and adored. A model and a gamer? And a top player at that? It obviously gets some attention in a mere second!
But Gojo was the only one to ever possess and hold the title ‘the strongest sorcerer’ in the JJK Verse, having played even at the early stages of the game when bugs and glitches were still quite prominent and when it was still constantly updating. So it was fair for him to gain such fame and position when he’s been so loyal to the game, putting in all efforts even at the very beginning and up to now.
JJK Verse holds so many complex game mechanics that even Megumi praised and hated the developers and the organization for creating such a masterpiece. To him, everything else pales in comparison when this game certainly brought the peak of gaming and was considered the ‘standard’ for the gaming community in various ways.
It is a rather typical genre but so beloved by all. The system is simple to understand but the process could leave even adults screaming in rage or crying like a baby.
As beginners, the JJK Verse allows players to pick various sides. Either to be a sorcerer attending a Jujutsu school, a curse user for the wicked or the good, or even worse, a curse or a cursed spirit.
To achieve such feats, one must be a normal character at first—a human—with little to no cursed energy for beginners. They go through this notorious and dreadful first trial which is a nearly impossible requirement to complete in order to determine whether or not one can proceed to become a curse user, and if one is successful, a sorcerer. If one does not manage to become one, they stay stuck as a human, depending on the path players take now that the option to become a sorcerer is out of the question, however, the negative thing about that is that they have higher chances of dying due to the fact of other players taking a rather darker path… Becoming a cursed spirit, or most commonly, curses which are the sole enemies of the sorcerers.
Players without any label can still play the game, of course, but they no longer indulge in the action or take missions as it is reserved for the sorcerers or curse users. Instead, the players can still enjoy themselves as it can serve as a role-playing game, peaceful but challenging all the same as they no longer receive training to defend themselves from the cruelty—or rather, powerful curses that will consume them.
Throughout it all, the game is open to many doors that completely surprise many of the gaming community. It is the reason why Megumi and many other gamers love to continue indulging themselves in this game because it is always changing and always new.
Because while it is a typical type of genre, there is actually something more that was not given any thought at all when this masterpiece was first released.
What started as a ridiculous notion to think of now turned into a mystery in dire need to be revealed. An impossible idea. But in the end, it did happen. It was possible.
One can be a curse user but also become a curse .
A difficult feat to accomplish. A truth that was, at first, hard to acknowledge.
Why the creators of the game made it possible is beyond them all. At this point, many of the gaming community thought it was just a fucked-up way to mess with the fans.
The only one who succeeded in becoming a powerful curse user and a cursed spirit later on—and a special grade at that—was a famous gamer and content creator, accumulating millions of subscribers and followers on social media similar to that of the famous Gojo Satoru…
Ryomen Sukuna.
Ryomen was a very reserved individual, though he had gone to a handful of conventions and joined in calls randomly and quite frequently in Mahito or Jogo’s streams, the two gamers are also some notable players, he kept to himself and only uploaded videos of him absolutely destroying and battling sorcerers and cursed spirits alike with his powerful techniques he personally created himself, not shying away to show off his infamous gaming skills so casually that it drives players insane.
He allegedly also plays various games, too, with Mahito revealing on his live stream that Sukuna plays other games and casually commenting that he’s skilled with all of them. But it was just a mere rumor since many people chose not to rely on Mahito’s information.
People knew little about him. And what they do know about him is his ruthlessness. Most importantly, his penchant for bullying others, for his cruelty and unmerciful demeanor to all. In every 1 v 1 duel that Ryomen participated in for a particular event, it usually ended up with his opponents quitting mid-fight or being torn to pieces by the renowned techniques Ryomen had under his sleeves.
He does not discriminate, and no one seems to escape his sharp tongue.
Megumi was once a target of this that one time when he, Nobara, and Yuuji happened to stumble upon Ryomen while in the middle of fighting a special-grade cursed spirit themselves.
The trio were still new to the game, fresh out of the first trial, and heavily outmatched, doing their second mission together as their role as ‘students’ of Jujutsu High, when Yuuji, whose character nearly died in the process, was trying to fend off the special grade by himself.
Just when Megumi thought this was the end of Yuuji’s career as a sorcerer, Ryomen suddenly appeared out of nowhere and abruptly demolished the hell out of the special-grade cursed spirit.
Megumi could still very much recall the earthshaking experience he couldn’t be able to forget despite it happening months ago.
“What a pathetic sight.”
Megumi’s heart felt like it fell deep from his chest at the sound of a very distinct voice he recognized from the number of edited clips he’d seen in reels.
Ryomen’s voice was smooth and clear from the headset, his microphone must have been a high-quality material to catch the disappointment in his tone.
Megumi’s character was frozen in exhaustion and from the heavy injuries he acquired from his battle against this special grade, unable to move and put up a fighting stance now that another big threat had graced his presence over them. The worst thing was he couldn’t immediately detect where Ryomen had gone, only hearing him just now.
A hot stab of panic lanced through Megumi’s heart as he clicked his keyboard buttons repeatedly and rapidly, trying to force his character to move and locate where Ryomen had gone. His panic is comprehensible because of what just transpired.
A few seconds ago, the most iconic and famous incident just happened… The legendary big capitalized letter case, a horror-styled font, angry red and dripping like blood streaking down, appeared ominously so suddenly on Megumi’s screen, which followed a low rumbling noise to double the impact of the arrival of the strongest cursed spirit out there, nearly causing Megumi’s soul to leap out of him from fright.
YOU’RE IN HIS PRESENCE.
Sometimes, the phrase would be different. Megumi has seen enough clips on social media of players; sorcerers, humans, cursed spirits alike, before their deaths, having ominous words or phrases appearing out of nowhere on their screen, scaring them in the process.
Because while the developers were sure as hell creative in coming up with something like that, it sure is another way of fucking people to scare them.
Those words are a sign to allow players to know that Sukuna Ryomen is there with them, bestowing his monstrous character upon them. But only when he wanted his presence to be known. Since this is a mere game, the developers wanted to emphasize the ‘heavy’ atmospheric presence of stronger special grades by adding this feature because it certainly can’t be felt in real life.
However, Megumi had to say that even if it was real life, he knew he’d feel chills running down his spine if he ever encountered an incredibly powerful special-grade monster.
Ryomen Sukuna is not one you mess with on a daily basis.
HE’S WATCHING.
KNEEL.
HIS PRESENCE IS OVERWHELMING.
YOU HAVE BEEN GRACED.
There are even video compilations of people caught dying and screaming in fright when these words would come out, usually for comedic purposes and curiosity’s sake.
Even Gojo was jealous that he didn’t get one for himself, declaring: ‘I’m powerful, so why didn’t I get my own signature phrases?’
Megumi was just a viewer at that time, having found it humorous when players were screaming and shitting their pants when these words were flashed in front of them. Huge, red, and alarming.
But now…
Being the one behind the screen, experiencing it himself, he could finally understand why these words could bring nightmares and have players quitting the world of gaming.
Megumi faces Nobara’s character, heavily injured like him. “Get the fuck out of here!”
“And what? Get diced up by the undisputed King of Curses!?” Nobara’s microphone grew scratchy from the volume of her scream.
Megumi cursed inwardly and rolled the scroll wheel up to view his whole surroundings widely, limited range as it was. Once adjusted, he held his breath in shock when he saw Sukuna fucking Ryomen standing so close to Yuuji’s prone and lied-down character, just next to him at a few feet distance.
The behemoth of a character, possessing four strong arms, eyes, and two mouths made itself known with such confidence and aura that it made Megumi nervous. A demon with the all-too-familiar and iconic black lines streaking on his muscled form. This is the first time Megumi ever sees him in person. Or rather, from his character’s point of view. Though it was intimidating seeing players in the media capturing Ryomen’s presence, it was just so different when Megumi got to witness it by himself.
Megumi got close to his mic, his back straight in tension and he was leaning far too close to his monitor like he could just teleport there and snatch his friend away from the grasp of the demon. “Yuuji!”
Unfortunately, his character is too far away from Yuuji’s. The range of their mics couldn’t reach each other at this distance but Megumi saw the image of Yuuji’s mic hovering over his head, a sign that Yuuji was speaking to none other than the King of Curses looming over his beaten form. Though whatever he’s saying, his voice regrettably can’t be heard.
“Can you hear him?” Nobara inquires, her voice shaking.
“Of course not!” Apprehension is seeping into Megumi’s heart, unable to look away from Yuuji’s character. They are helpless as they watch the back-and-forth image of Yuuji’s and Sukuna’s mic floating above their character. The conversation was quite long and Megumi ended up being curious about what was going on and why Yuuji wasn’t even dead yet.
Megumi switched his attention to the other monitor to try and dial Yuuji through a different app. It’s cheating but at this point, he’s desperate to know his friend’s situation and give help even when it’s futile at best.
Then Megumi stiffened when in the corner of his eyes, a figure moved meticulously, earning a panicked ‘eep!’ from Nobara. Megumi stops what he was planning to do and watches Ryomen stepping away from the prone body of his friend, now strolling forth towards them, leaving Yuuji alone on the ground. His strong and larger form increased the oppressive weight in the air.
Megumi inhaled sharply. ‘Calm yourself down, Megumi. It’s just a fucking game!’
But he knew that this wasn’t just an ordinary game. Megumi loves the game and he doesn’t want it to end so soon.
“Shit! Nobara, can you still fight?”
“What the hell am I supposed to do with my broken arm!?”
“Fight with the other one then!”
Megumi waited with bated breath now that Sukuna’s mic was in the range. Megumi stopped constantly pressing his control buttons as he knew that all hope was lost. Megumi’s stomach lurches when Ryomen speaks, sultry yet holds a lot of weight.
“For a sorcerer to hold a powerful technique, you use it quite terribly.” Megumi’s mouth snapped shut just when he was about to say something. The silence from him allowed Ryomen to continue without any regard. “I don’t understand how this technique is given to a pitiful character. It was agonizing to watch.”
Megumi scowled and his anger quickly rose but he reigned himself back, gritting his teeth. Even if he tries to fight back at this moment, it would only heighten the risk of getting his character killed. Or worse, dragging his friends with him. Though, he can’t be too sure. He might even die now.
Sukuna’s voice drawled on, his attention now towards the injured woman. “Why even bother become a sorcerer? The way I see your technique, it’s only a good use for carpentry.”
“Shut up!” Nobara growled.
Sukuna barked a laugh. “But I make a good point! If you’ve forgotten, this game also serves for role-playing purposes. You should’ve picked that option instead. At least your hammer can be of good use.”
Nobara snarled loudly on her mic, her character twitching but couldn’t do anything. “I’ll fucking kill you, damn bully!”
“Go on… I could wait for your broken arm to heal.” Sukuna’s character isn’t smiling but Megumi knows that in real life, he is.
Then, even at the peak of escalating displeasure between the two sides, things suddenly got quiet. Nobara having nothing to spew from her wicked mouth had shut her microphone off to either avoid lashing out or was forcefully being compliant due to the imminent danger before them, recognizing the risk if her attitude continued. Instead, studying with an apprehensive focus now that this may mark the end of her JJK Verse gaming career.
The tense silence felt heavy with the presence of the special grade player. However, Sukuna was unperturbed as after having an analytical scrutiny of their injured characters, he sighed out loud in distaste as if finding being in the same space as the two unbearable to be around. The two sorcerers remained still as a stone, trying to comprehend every move and see which part of this all was calculated.
In a way, Megumi felt disturbed that this player in front of him wasn’t doing anything other than hurting their feelings.
Then, for what felt like eons, Ryomen’s dull baritone voice resonated in their headset so loud and clear as if he was there with them.
“You’re all boring. Using even a bit of my cursed energy will be a waste. If I were you, I’d quit the game after that humiliating display of a battle, since you can’t seem to handle such a weak, lowly vermin that you call a special grade.”
And just like that, he vanished. The two sorcerers took a long time to process as if a loading symbol somehow appeared in their brains, circling endlessly.
“What.” Nobara meekly uttered.
Megumi eyed the screen like he’d seen a ghost, thinking that his hearing wasn’t functioning right.
Because this is a miracle if Megumi ever counts it as such. Few would come out alive once facing an encounter with powerful special grade curses. Specifically, the King of Curses. Usually ends with people getting killed in an instant the moment they even glimpse the form of that notorious player. Today, it was just a simple stroke of luck that they were here, still playing, though barely managing but still alive and Megumi wondered why.
How that is even possible is beyond them.
Regrettably, Megumi didn’t bother recording it live so he was sure enough that people wouldn’t even believe him if he ever bothered to tell the tale.
“Hear this!” Gojo’s loud voice snapped Megumi out of his thoughts when a light ringing of ceramic materials hitting each other resonated from his headset. The microphone captured its sound very well, allowing Megumi to assume Gojo was holding a bowl and a spoon. “D’you hear it? It’s ice cream!”
Nobara scoffs, her profile icon glowed with it. “Whatever! I still think otherwise anyway!”
“Come on guys, shut it. It’s almost starting.” Maki interrupted. Toge types immediately to support Maki’s words.
Onigiri_Inumaki: One minute left till Yuuji starts! Let’s support him by not bickering.
“Oh, I can’t wait to see Yuuji’s figurine!” Panda’s voice took over.
“Right? It’s the first edition figurine! I’m gonna buy it the moment it’s open for the public.”
“You better watch out though! It might be out of stock fast!”
Megumi smiles, looking at the main monitor as the timer finally hits zero.
Finally, after a moment of silence from the streamer, the timer slowly transitioned to an unfamiliar background. Instead of Yuuji’s usual gaming setting where he usually goes live to play games, it was replaced with plain white walls, a big yet comfortable couch, and a long mini-table. Beside it was an unopened box, bigger than any usual figure.
“Woah, it looks big!” Yuuta exclaimed.
Gojo laughed. “That’s Yuuji for you! He deserved it, ya know!”
Then, pink hair peeked out in the corner of the camera, and then finally, his whole self. Yuuji wore a big smile on his face, excitement clear as day. He stands full body and waves at the camera with vigor. “Hello, everyone! I apologize for the wait!”
He moved his head to stare out to the side, probably looking at another screen to read the comments swarming on his chat. “Woah, lots of you in here, huh.” He clapped his hands and rubbed them, bright eyes going down and up to catch up with the onslaught of chats from the waiting fans. “I’m so excited right now, I’m sure you can tell.”
“Ah, Yuuji, just open the box already!” Nobara inserts in.
As if Yuuji could hear her, he bounced on his feet and exclaimed. “My friends are also watching! Hello, guys! Thanks for coming to watch me opening my first character figure today!”
Yuuta huffs, his own smile not waning a bit. “Well, he did remind us a couple of times earlier.”
“Yeah, he completely spammed my coms’ when I wasn’t online,” Maki said, a small chuckle on her end.
Onigiri_Inumaki: Me too lol.
“Oh, yeah! I’ll also do a quick shout-out to the company who made this happen, as well as my sponsors for the day, and of course, to my adoring fan who drew an awesome art of me including all of you who are here with me right now!”
And so, as per usual, Yuuji then proceeds to babble on about his thanks and his sponsors, even going so far as to bow his head as low as he could in front of the camera while he did so. The happiness in his eyes was bright even behind the screen when he read some of the comments on his stream chat. It went on for a while, taking his time to thank every single one of them and even mentioning other well-known streamers who are also watching him today.
“Okay, that’s all I’m going to say. Now, then!” Yuuji clapped once more, clasping his fingers tight out of nervousness and facing the box beside him. “It’s unboxing time!”
“Great!” Gojo exclaimed all of a sudden, his voice from the headset grating Megumi’s ears. The sound of his bowl and spoon clanging so loudly that it was starting to get annoying. “I can’t wait to see it! I can add it to my collection!”
“But aren’t your shelves full?”
“Yeah? I can make space for my Yuuji figure!”
Yuuji took a pair of scissors and dragged the box close to him. Later on, he was already sitting on the couch and is now carefully snipping at the tape. It took only a few seconds before the flaps opened and Yuuji peaked down and released a gasp.
“Oh!” Yuuji shouts in delight. “You guys! Look at this!”
His hands were immediately buried in the box, his eyes fixed on it with immense focus and excitement all the same as he carried out the item inside. Displayed for the world to see, it was another box, but there was an image of Yuuji’s character animatedly posing plastered on the carton, glimmering under the bright light. Yuuji let out a squeal as he studied with eager eyes at the box laid before him. “This is beautiful! I look so cool!”
“Woah!” Megumi couldn’t help himself as he moved close to the monitor.
“Absolutely stunning!”
“The amount of details on the clothes!”
“Look at the hair, it’s so neat!”
“Oh, I am so adding it to my shelves!”
Megumi faces the other monitor after muting his mic from his friends. “Chat, what do you think?”
MegumisWife: It’s looks goooooooooood!
KingoftheCurses1020: Aint no way. it’s awesome <3 <3 <3
LiveLaughLOve: It looks sick ngl..
Miwaaamwuah: haha y’all know what this means. Im gonna end up broke again
And thus, the start of the real unboxing.
Yuuji began the process by carefully removing the tape and opening the flaps of the box he’d sure to treasure in his storage room. He peered inside and gushed once again before taking out the stand and the other removable parts. Plastic rustled about and small snips of scissors were captured by the microphone. He was careful in holding the items as if they were fragile things and commented on every single thing he could find that amazed him. Delightfully chattering away with a ceaseless enthusiasm.
All the while, Megumi and the others were simply there to watch and add their own comments on what they think. Megumi switches reading his own chat and watching Yuuji opening and taking out the plastic wrappers of his figure. Megumi sometimes had to mute his coms to speak with his viewers, making sure that he hadn’t neglected them and thanking them profusely when they gave away money.
It took a few minutes before Yuuji finally started to put the pieces together, having already attached the headless body of his character to the stand platform and now focused on trying to put a prop that looked like a rock or debris to add to the stand.
“Hm? I wonder where this goes?”
Yuuji had already read the manual numerous times and studied the picture of the box in front of him as a reference. But still, he struggled and tried to connect the piece to the wrong part.
“Gah! Not this either!”
There’s still a long way to go. Yuuji is still in the initial stages of completing his figurine. Time flew quickly. It’s already been a few minutes and Yuuji had yet to move on from that piece. Megumi glanced at his chat to read the comments.
Lizzie_DaLizzard: Uh oh he’s stuck.
01CalmToge: What’s taking him so long?
FixXxerUpper: I mean that thing looks hard to put together though
RealGogogojo: Man looks like he’s trying to solve a level 100 puzzle.
toMAHITOdelight: Poor guy. This is gonna take forEVER.
“Where does this go?” Yuuji’s voice brought Megumi’s attention back to him. “Sorry guys, can’t find where this one is supposed to insert.”
“Man, I can’t blame him,” Maki uttered with a sigh. “The piece looks too small.”
The others followed to agree with her.
“Maybe he could just throw that piece away! It looks insignificant anyway.”
“No way! Yuuji is not one to throw precious things like that. Especially when it involves his image.”
Megumi could only watch helplessly as Yuuji placed the piece down in resignation, grabbing another one when—
Yuuji’s lowered head had snapped up in attention and his gaze switched from his figurine to the side where the cameras could not follow. His body became taut and he looked surprised when he saw something—or rather someone—in the room with him. A deep voice was heard but it was too faint and incomprehensible for the mic to catch.
In an instant, Yuuji’s saddened expression changed to a beaming one as if he were a child who just received his first candy, cheerily declaring to the public without any regard for the consequences that may soon take place. “Oh, everyone! My husband’s here to help!”
Now, that was enough to cause a ruckus in the chat, almost to the point that the stream chat lagged for a bit, going so far to be unable to be read even in under a second. Megumi was even startled at the pace of comments appearing and disappearing so suddenly.
“I forget that he has a husband sometimes,” Gojo commented.
Nobara hummed in agreement. “Definitely. I guess because he doesn’t bring it up that much.”
“Oh, this is curious.”
Megumi could say the same, reaching out to take his water bottle. He straightened on his chair, finally accepting the surprising realization that he could see Yuuji’s husband now after a long time of knowing Yuuji. After all, even though Megumi and Yuuji are friends, he lives too far from him. They’ve only met during conventions or when Yuuji comes to this state of the country to meet up with him, however, none of those meetings ever reveal his husband.
For certain, Megumi treasures Yuuji’s friendship a lot because Yuuji is someone he considers his best friend. Though they met online, it was a refreshing thought that there is someone out there with a pure heart and kindness unique in this world. Yuuji is a good person through and through no matter how many times he’s exposed himself to toxic players. Megumi approved Yuuji’s mentality to never be influenced so easily by cruel intentions.
It’s what drove Megumi to keep in contact with Yuuji even out of the game. It’s been years since they’ve known each other and they have kept up the calls to share each other’s day. Yuuji would oftentimes talk about his personal life and share the moments of his life when he deemed fit and Megumi in return would talk about the things he finds intriguing of the day.
It doesn’t really bother Megumi that much that he’s never been properly introduced to Yuuji’s husband. To him, it is only a matter of time anyway. Megumi knows to mind his own business. It is only up to Yuuji to further share his personal life with everyone. So, naturally, the following incident should’ve given him enough time to prepare since he already accepted the idea that Yuuji’s husband is also a good person who may share Yuuji’s personality. Since he believed that Yuuji certainly picked the right choice of a spouse for him to love and to be loved.
However, that did not go as thought.
“Keep in mind that I’m only here because it’s painful to watch you struggle.”
Megumi spat out the water from his mouth.
A loud clanging noise came from Gojo’s profile icon in the coms. His ice cream must’ve dropped.
It was followed up by a loud gasp and sudden exclamation of numerous people talking at the same time.
So languidly and nonchalantly, Sukuna Ryomen became visible on the screen for the whole world to see, walking at a leisurely pace until he sat on the couch next to Yuuji without giving a thought of personal space between them.
Ryomen sneaks a hand around Yuuji’s waist and slips it under Yuuji’s shirt to rub the skin there. Yuuji did not appear as if he had noticed. “The last thing I want is to see you looking pitiful over something so trivial.”
But Yuuji was unperturbed despite the harsh tone directed at him. “Aw! Thank you, Suku~” Then Yuuji tilted up to peck a kiss on Sukuna’s cheek. “You’re the best! Also, it’s not trivial, you know. I finally have a figurine of myself to stand next to yours! You should be happy!”
Megumi watches with mouth gaping open.
Sukuna expressed his disapproval as he clicked his tongue. “Whatever, just give me that piece. It was stressing me out to watch you trying to put that thing.”
Yuuji pouts in his position, handing the piece to the waiting hand. “Sorry! I couldn’t see where that thing had to go. I’ve tried looking at the reference and the guidebook.”
“Then perhaps you shall also consider looking through areas you couldn’t see.” Sukuna’s intelligent eyes roam around Yuuji’s unfinished figurine for a moment. He removed his hand from Yuuji’s waist and leaned forward, placing both of his palms on the figurine quite delicately and finally pushing the piece into the hole hidden at the crevice of the figure’s hoodie.
Yuuji blinked rapidly in shock. “What the—”
The signature self-satisfied smirk formed on Sukuna’s face, leaning back on the couch complacently. “There, see? How blind can you be?”
“I—pff…uh—” Yuuji stammered, looking back and forth between Sukuna and the figure. “Uh… Thanks?”
A scoff emitted from the other man as he rolled his eyes, moving to stand up. However, his eyes narrowed almost seductively at Yuuji as he did so. “You can thank me in bed tonight.”
Someone let out a cough and a startled choke. A dribble of water can be heard over Megumi’s headset. The same sound of kitchen wares clanging to each other is repeated once more. And Inumaki’s chat bubble kept on repeating and disappearing.
And oh dear, the chat is flooded furiously with replies commenting at the same time on both Megumi’s and Yuuji’s respective ends right now.
“I—Sukuna!” Yuuji’s face flushed beet red. “T-T-This is… Ugh! YT, please don’t ban me, please!”
Sukuna cackled, looking unbothered by the way he eyed ravishingly over Yuuji’s flushed face. The latter couldn’t help but release an indignified squeak as he hid his face with his arms. Then, as if Sukuna couldn’t contain himself, removed the arms covering Yuuji’s face and took hold of his chin, Sukuna lowered himself to plant a brief kiss. “Hurry up and get it over with.”
Then, he walked away with that sly smirk.
“G-Guys, I am so sorry! I don’t even know—what, Sukuna!” Before Yuuji could finish, the camera suddenly moved erratically. The way the camera view shook haphazardly almost had the watchers dizzy, followed by the sound muffled from the movement.
The next thing that happened was of Sukuna positioning the camera low and far enough to view his now scowling face, absent of any amusement he had just worn a second ago. He was holding the camera by its stand and tilted it down in a manner that looked like he was looking down on the viewers. Like a King appraising his kneeling servant.
“One more thing. To the company who created this damn figurine, you better listen.” Those sharp eyes narrowed menacingly. “If you want precious money down in your pockets, start by making your products simple enough to stick pieces together. If I notice my wife stresses himself again, you’re done for.”
Then, the camera was placed back in its rightful position, revealing a startled Yuuji who was standing up as if he was ready to tackle the larger man.

Hey everyone. I know everyone’s worried and curious and angry and stuff. But no, I assure you that I’m not a traitor to my fellow sorcerers. Me and Sukuna promised each other to mind our business in the game and that we shouldn’t tell/trade each other secrets like the mechanics/techniques/and other secret stuff! What stays his is his and what stays mine is mine. So, dont worry :D

JJK VERSE UPDATE || GREETINGS TO ALL. Have you tried the new update? This month’s event is Scare Month! Partner up with your friends and allies… or even your enemies! Humans, Cursed Spirits, and Sorcerers can now form a temporary ally to find the ultimate prize! Only 50 pairs can win the prize in each country! So choose your partner wisely!
Gojo’s character bounced up and down erratically as if to call everyone’s attention. His mic floated above his character as he speaks. “Is everyone online?”
All the sorcerers of Jujutsu High are packed in one place.
Well… Most of them.
Some of the ‘staff’ and ‘students’ are not present at the moment but it was a good sight to see that most of them bothered joining this famed event.
“Uh, Gojo-sensei?” Ino’s character marches towards Gojo’s. “What was the update again? Sorry, haven’t read anything about it.”
“Aha! Thank you for asking, Ino-kun.” Gojo chirped gleefully, his tone implying that he’d been waiting for someone to bother asking such a question. “This event is created by none other than the amazing developers of the game themselves, a horror-themed event that encourages players to find a pair to join! It’s a super unique thing where humans, curses, and sorcerers can partner up with each other without trying to kill one another! The prize? Well, well, well… A powerful cursed tool… and of course, money!”
“Wait, a cursed tool?” Maki unmuted herself from the coms. “Don’t we got that a lot already?”
“I know! But this one’s new and super cool-looking! Says here that it can pierce any hard object and break any curtain with no problem. And I mean any curtain.”
“Wait. Isn’t that a big problem? If anyone has it, then they could enter the curtain Lord Tengen uses that protects our school!”
“I know!”
“Why the fuck would they release such a big prize!? If a cursed spirit got it, our lives would be in danger!”
“I don’t know!”
“Wait, where’s Yuuji!?”
Everyone started looking around and enhancing their screen view to see a bit better but there was no sign of Yuuji at all. It’s startling since the pink-haired sorcerer is usually here with them, chatting with almost everyone and letting his bright presence known, so the fact that he is not present at this very moment when almost everyone is online…
Strange.
With a hitched breath, Megumi paled at the realization. “Oh shit, I think he left the safe zone!”
“What!?” They exclaimed.
The curtain that separates the curse users and cursed spirits serves as a protective barrier between the two sides to allow respective team communication. It is a border one reserved for the sorcerers or humans, and the other for the curses. The tendency of these events is common: There is most likely no pair of Sorcerer and Cursed Spirit ever becoming “partners”. The good and the evil. And so, the developers created a personal bubble for the two sides separately.
To leave the curtain personally reserved only for the sorcerers or humans or cursed spirit will mean going to an open place where both sides can meet… and, of course, either interact or bully each other. A battlefield of words where no fighting is to be done because attacks are apparently forbidden. It's quite ridiculous. A literal sandbox of communication between Sorcerer and Cursed Spirit if they don’t hate each other. A strange safe place or some sort of a lobby section where everyone can gather and talk to each other peacefully. Of course, with this game being taken seriously, they may be safe physically but cannot be said the same for the trash talk and the taunting from different sides.
Once the event started, this apparent “safe place” or lobby section would disappear. Thus, this place will soon become a blood bath if they ever linger here longer than necessary as fighting will ensue and safety is no longer guaranteed since it is sure by now that even the curtain that separates the two sides will also disappear, leaving them to race against each other.
It is a pairing type of event and only a pair can win.
If Yuuji left the safe zone reserved for the sorcerers then—
Megumi was the first to leave the safety of the barrier and dashed head-on to follow one of the Divine Dogs he had summoned, sniffing the air to locate Yuuji’s scent. The map is big for some reason. There were no Cursed Spirits in the way, thankfully, perhaps recognizing the threat Gojo Satoru brought when he was nearby.
But Megumi should’ve known. Should’ve also considered one more presence.
It’s an open space now, and thankfully, not many curses and sorcerers strewn around, all from different countries, are blocking Megumi’s pathway. Though there were occasionally cruel words being thrown around by some curses and humans gathered in a particular space, Megumi ignored them, preferring to follow his summon with a determined goal.
However, along the way, as the map continues to stretch on, there are fewer curses and humans or sorcerers he could see.
So if that’s the case…
“Yuuji—” The name was caught deep in his throat, tongue-tied when Megumi’s character paused.
PERIL IS UPON YOU.
The fat ominous phrase appeared on his screen again. And this could only mean one thing.
At the center of an open field lush with greenery and flowers, and occupied by only two players in the area of the map this far, there lies Sukuna Ryomen sitting rather tranquil on the ground. He, indeed, wasn’t alone.
On Ryomen’s lap is a pinkette who looks quite out of place with the obvious danger just behind him. Ryomen’s arms wrapped tightly on Yuuji’s form, a feat considered impossible in this kind of game mechanics. The movements and the controls of the game limit extensive bodily actions, and yet the King of Curses had no such qualms about breaking the laws of the game.
“Y-Yuuji?”
Yuuji’s character faced ahead in attention, and an image of a microphone floated above his head as he spoke. “Oh, Megumi!”
“What are you…
If Megumi looked closely, he could see Sukuna’s character holding Yuuji tightly.
“Sukuna’s using V.R. right now. Pretty cool, right? I didn’t know you could do such a thing.”
Oh, that makes sense. Sukuna is moving far too fluidly and elegantly for a game character.
Megumi cleared his throat, trying to act as if this image in front of him did not bother him at all. “You should go back. We’re still in the middle of planning with Gojo right now and—”
“There’s no need.” Megumi’s voice abandoned him once again when Sukuna interrupted. “Yuuji will be my partner for this event.”
If Megumi was in front of Yuuji right now, he would’ve glanced at Yuuji incredulously.
“So get out of my sight,” Ryomen grumbled as he held Yuuji like any lover would. But Megumi supposes that Ryomen is indeed Yuuji’s lover, so he shouldn’t feel weird about this at all.
But now with Ryomen’s declaration, Megumi had no choice but to accept the occurrence laid before him. He thinks that he should consider it simply because Ryomen and Yuuji never act ‘couple-ish’ or actually married people while playing the game, recalling that these two had a fair share of battles many months ago, usually leaving Yuuji heavily injured in the process. So, this event could be the only time they can act as true lovers without the rules of JJK Verse constricting them. However, once this ended, unfortunately, they’d be back as enemies.
“R-Right…” Megumi moved his character away, walking slowly inch by inch. “If you want to meet others, Yuuji, you can still come back, okay?”
“Yep! Thanks, Megumi.”
As Megumi left the two alone, his mind couldn’t stop recalling the times when he had some encounters with Ryomen himself. However, now with the cat out of the bag, Megumi realized that he only met the King when Yuuji was present. Sometimes, or rather, once or twice every month Megumi would meet the King and have nearly died in the process. It’s always with Yuuji he accompanies that Ryomen would appear. At first, he thought they just had a shit luck.
Now… Now, he knows better.
‘Was Ryomen purposely doing this to check on Yuuji…? No wonder why Yuuji’s still alive. Ryomen is watching over him.’
The number of times Yuuji escaped the throes of the King of Curses, death continuously looming over him, was at first thought as a miracle. But Ryomen was just simply there to protect his ‘wife’. It was obvious enough that Ryomen didn’t want his lover to die at the hands of other special grade curses, and so he acts by being the complete asshole as a way to show protection.
Yuuji sure is lucky.
“What a fucking cheat…” Megumi mumbled, shaking his head with a smile.
