About me!
thought it was a good time to make a pinned post with a little info about me! my name’s Rose, you can call me Rose or Merry or Merryrose, whatever you like :) I’m a small town gal living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, getting by working two jobs (not that I’m complaining – I get to know lots of people, and they all have interesting stories to tell!) and writing a little in my spare time (not that I have much, two jobs and all, really more like three but I can’t talk much about that except that it’s super important!).
the main other thing that’s important to know about me is that my all-time favorite writer (and my inspiration and hero!) is Alan Wake – I’m his biggest fan!! chances are you’ll see a lot of content related to him and his writing on here. my favorites are the Alex Casey books, ofc – that’s actually why I started this blog in the first place, just so I’d have a place to put my Casey fanfic and share lesser-known tidbits from Alan’s life. I wasn’t even sure at the beginning how long I’d stay, but I’m sure glad I did, ‘cause now I get to interact with folks who love Alan (almost) as much as I do! :)
that’s probably enough info for an introductory post, but you can always send me an ask if you wanna know more (though I’m not sure anyone would be that interested in my little life!), or if you have a fic request, or if you just wanna chat – I love getting to know people! till then, stay in the light ✨💛

Alan Wake Trivia #19
Did You Know? While Alan may have gotten his first “big” break writing scripts for the cult sci-fi horror anthology Night Springs, his first-ever published work was a short story, “Errand Boy”, written for Dark Vision magazine in 1995. Most people read the book of the same name without realizing it was adapted from a much earlier work!
Bonus trivia: For those of you following along at home, that means Alan was just 18 when he published his first story! Pretty amazing, right?? 💛

for whatever reason I've been getting a lot of anonymous hate messages in my askbox lately, which I am not going to post or respond to. I don't know who raised you (but if you're spending your time sending mean hateful messages on the Internet, whoever it was didn't do a very good job) but my dad always told me that if I didn't have anything nice to say I shouldn't say it, and I like to think that goes for spreading other people's negativity as well as saying negative words of your own.
I'm only making this post because one person in particular thought it would be fun if they threatened to come where I work and hurt me. First: before writing this, I let the local police know about everything in your messages, and they do not take online harassment lightly. You can expect to hear from your local law enforcement soon, buddy.
Second: the police offered to post a patrol officer near where I work, just to keep an eye out for a few days. I turned them down. It was nice of them to think of it and all, but they're stretched thin enough as it is, and I know that the kind of cowardly person who sends online threats to bloggers who never did anything to them, is also too much of a coward to ever actually act on those threats.
Third: In case you're less of a coward than you make yourself out to me, you should also know that I have a rifle, and I know how to use it. Stay in the light and stay away from me, creep.

address-stop-unknown asked: shouldn’t someone calling themselves “alan wake’s biggest fan” know that he’s dead?? why the hell do you keep talking about him like he’s alive
merryrose answered: Because he is alive. Don’t ask me how or why, but I just…know, you know? It’s not the kind of thing I can offer proof of, or at least not proof that anyone would understand. It’s just a feeling. But I’m sure that he’s still out there, somewhere. He’s still fighting. He’s still trying to get back home. And I know that when he does – not if, when – he’s gonna have one hell of a story for us.

Just so you know, Rose: I believe you. You live near Cauldron Lake - that's where Wake is supposed to have drowned, right? I've done some digging, and I know some really weird stuff happens out in that neck of the woods. (I should know, I've had some really weird stuff happen to me, even some things that are connected to the lake -- and that's with me living all the way on the other side of the country!) I dunno if I believe it, but it's totally possible that Wake is alive, at least.
merryrose
thank you, that's really kind 💛 but what do you mean 'weird stuff' related to the lake? I thought for sure I knew about everything that goes on around here by now! (or at least most things, lol!)
thishouseofdreams
It's kind of a long story...I kept up an old-school blog about it for awhile, but I lost the password and haven't updated it since then. A couple years ago I saw a photo of Cauldron Lake and remembered that that was the lake, the one I dreamed about. I meant what I said though - then and now. Someday some amazing, dazzling, impossible thing is going to come out of that lake. Keep the faith, Rose.
merryrose
wait, you DREAMED about the lake? ohhhhhh my god oh my god oh my GOD
do you have more info? the link to your old blog? how long ago did all this happen, was it before or after Alan went in? actually nvm, I'm gonna DM you

one of the residents at the nursing home is teaching me how to knit! (well, she says that what I'm doing is actually "crochet" -- apparently the distinction is a big deal. sorry, Mandy-May!) this is my current work in progress; it's supposed to be a shawl, eventually...assuming it doesn't twist and snarl around itself first 😅 at least the yarn color is pretty -- I wanted it to look like a sunrise over the lake 🌅💛

Woah, Night Springs! Didn't know people still watched this show. My sister tells me that they're making a reboot, anyone know if that's still happening? My favorite episode growing up was "Over The Threshold Darkly" -- so creepy, and sad when the director dies at the end.
merryrose
hi! hope you don't mind if I hop on here -- there's plenty of folks on here who are big fans of Night Springs, both the original and the reboot (which has actually already started airing)! I actually don't think I know the episode you're talking about, it doesn't sound like any of the ones from the show's original run...?
nedafnalyd
Never mind. I must have dreamed it. Thanks for the help though. :)
merryrose
oh, um, okay! haha, I guess it is that kind of show

Possible hiatus
hey everyone! so hopefully I'm making a big deal over nothing, and just so you guys know, I am TOTALLY SAFE and everything is fine (better than fine, maybe, if what's happening means what I think it does!). but I miiiiiiight need to take a bit of a break from the blog for...actually I don't know for how long, things are kind of up in the air right now
again: I am okay and the people I care about are okay, or at least they're as close to "okay" as they're likely to get. I just have to...go away. maybe for a few days. maybe longer. and I can't really talk about why, except that it has to do with my third job, the one that I can't actually talk about but is really really important.
basically: someone very, very dear to me is in big trouble, and I have to go save him. or help him save himself, is maybe a better way of putting it. but it could be dangerous, and I don't know when I'll be able to come back, and anyways this blog, much as I love it, was never my number one priority. HE was. is.
so I'm gonna go do what I can for him, because that's all any of us can do (as my dad liked to say). wish me luck, and one more time: stay in the light 🔦🕯️✨

New chapter (finally!)
A/N: I'm back! sorry to keep you guys waiting -- I was stuck in the dark place for a super long time, had to fend off monsters with just a broom and a flashlight, you know how it is. actually it kind of felt like one long never-ending nightmare sometimes...but I'm choosing to taste the sweet with the bitter, which in this case means looking at it as a treasure trove of writing inspiration! while I was there I was able to write a few chapters; I'm still editing some of the later ones (they get kind of...weird and abstract in parts - oops!) but I wanted to post this as soon as I could! enjoy, and as always (it feels so good to say this!), stay in the light! 💛
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I was trapped. Not literally, I was still standing on the roof of the car. But I was caught at a crossroads, paralyzed with indecision. Two dashing men, alike in their handsome looks but polar opposites in their temperaments, had a hold on me. Literally, in that they had each grabbed one of my wrists, and also metaphorically, for both men had taken hold of my heart. My breath caught in my throat as I looked down at them: my sweet, caring writer, and my strong, passionate soldier. How could I ever choose between them?
Fortunately, I didn't have to wait long before a decision was made for me -- just not the one I was expecting. A snarling roar tore through the air. The zombies were back!

sounds like you've been through a lot, rose! (although don't you mean "a" dark place?) still, happy to see you back, can't wait for the next chapter!
merryrose
