Summary
Since he was a teenager, Eddie has known that he is a human incarnation of the Aztec god Tezcatlipoca, complete with his nagual, the jaguar god Tepeyollotl. Sure, nobody sacrifices anything to Tezcatlipoca anymore and he’s just a shadow of his former self; he’s just trying to make a living and raise his disabled child. Living a human life has taught him humility and given him a real understanding of sacrifice. In fact, after a thousand years of accepting human sacrifices, he's devoted his life to saving others, first as a medic in the Army and then as a firefighter with the LAFD.
One day the 118 save an older gentleman, one-eyed and charming, and his son at a car accident site. The older gentleman seems extremely interested in Buck and his son seems to have developed an unhealthy obsession with Eddie's best friend. Eddie knows that the older man is one of them, an Old God like himself. But he doesn’t know why he’s so interested in Buck, who is human. Or is he? And why was Buck both attracted and repulsed by the duo?
