Luffy bit moodily into his piece of meat as he watched Bonney and Sanji on the other side of the kitchen.
It wasn’t that he didn’t like Bonney. He did, she was cool, fun, and strong, and he liked that she liked and appreciated food almost as much as him. He was more than happy to give her a lift, and was glad to hang out with her for a bit while they did.
But for whatever reason, he forgot all of this the second she’d start talking to Sanji.
She figured out pretty quickly that Sanji would bend over backwards and feed her whatever she wanted whenever she asked, and took full advantage. Luffy had never minded how Sanji acted towards women before — flirting made Sanji happy, and Luffy liked when Sanji was happy — but for whatever reason he couldn’t stand how well he and Bonney got along.
“Sanji,” Bonney whined, her arms pressing against her chest and amplifying her cleavage as she leaned across the counter, “Can I have some more pizza, please?”
“Of course, my dear Bonney!” Sanji turned to her with hearts in his eyes as he presented her with yet another pizza, “Whatever you want!”
Luffy scoffed as he took another bite.
If he’d asked for more food this close to dinner, Sanji would have yelled at him. But Bonney got more food, just because she was pretty and she’d asked.
Stupid Bonney. Stupid Sanji.
Why did they have to get along so well? Why did Sanji have to look at her like that, like she was lighting up the room with her mere presence?
He should be looking at Luffy like that.
“You’re really so talented,” Bonney said, stroking his arm as he set the pizza down in front of her, “I’ve seriously never had anything this good before.”
“I’m always happy to serve an appreciative customer,” Sanji beamed at her, easily giving her that sunny smile of his that Luffy always loved to coax out of him.
Luffy snarled as he scoffed down the rest of his snack.
Part of him was surprised by how upset he was. Normally he loved seeing Sanji be appreciated for his many talents. Between Bonney’s overly fond praise or Judge’s disdain, he very much preferred Bonney.
But something about the way she said it, the way Sanji seemed to glow at her words, really pissed him off
“You fight, you cook,” she sighed as she kept rubbing his arm and finished the pizza in a few quick bites, “Is there anything you can’t do?”
Sanji let out an airy little laugh, his face going completely red.
Luffy clenched his fist at his side.
Of course Sanji was amazing — Luffy had known that for years — and normally he’d always be happy to talk to anyone who would listen about how great his chef was, would love to sit back and listen to Sanji being praised and appreciated.
But, for whatever reason, this was too much.
“You know,” she said as her fingers moved up his arm until she was holding his face, “I would love to eat like this all the time. What do you say to joining my crew?”
Luffy saw red.
Sanji was his, his cook, his friend, his crewmate, his everything. Luffy was the one who found Sanji, the one who fought through everything Big Mom threw at him to bring him home, the one who was going to take him to All Blue.
How dare Bonney try to take what was his?
“Oh,” Sanji blinked, his smile falling a little as Luffy crossed the room, “I’m flattered, really, but-”
Luffy wrapped a possessive arm around Sanji’s waist, stretching it so he could circle it a few times to hold him extra tight, and glared at Bonney.
“Sanji’s staying right here,” he growled, “He’s mine.”
Rather than be intimidated, Bonney met his challenging gaze head on, a smile slowly creeping across her face.
“Such a possessive captain, not letting you cook for anyone else,” she laughed, her eyes sliding to Sanji, “On my crew, you’ll be free to cook as much for whoever you want.”
Luffy snarled, pulling Sanji even closer, “Sanji is the cook of the Straw Hat pirates. He can make whatever he wants for whoever he wants, but he’s not going anywhere.”
“Don’t you think Sanji should be the one to make that choice?” Bonney grinned, resting her face in her hands, “So what do you say? You wanna come be my cook?”
Luffy clenched his teeth as he growled again. He and Bonney were pirates, and pirates were always after treasure, that much he understood. If Bonney had been pilfering from their treasure stores, he’d have completely understood and probably laughed about it with her afterwards.
But she was after Sanji, one of Luffy’s greatest and most valuable treasures. Pirates or not, Bonney could not have him.
“I am honored you think so highly of me,” Sanji said, making Luffy huff.
He thought highly of Sanji. He loved and praised him better than anyone. Sanji didn’t need Bonney’s praise when Luffy could give him anything he ever wanted.
“But Luffy’s right,” Sanji continued, “I am the cook of the Straw Hat Pirates, so sorry, but I can’t join your crew.”
The smile slipped off her face, and Luffy felt something warm and proud in his chest as he nuzzled Sanji’s shoulder.
“Really?” Bonney said as she drummed her fingers on the counter, “Anything I can do to change your mind?”
“No,” Sanji said, shaking his head, “There’s somewhere I need to go, and I can only go there on this ship.”
“And where’s that?”
“The All Blue,” Sanji’s grin was wide, and Luffy fell a little more in love with him as he talked about his dream, “It’s a miracle sea where fish from every corner of the world live together.”
“Oh?” Bonney raised an eyebrow, “I love seafood, sounds like my kind of place. If that’s where you want to go, my ship can get you there.”
“Sorry,” Sanji laughed as he wrapped an arm around Luffy, making him grin, “but I’m sure the Pirate King’s ship is going to get there first, and that’s going to be Luffy.”
“I see,” she pouted, and Luffy stuck his tongue out at her.
She scowled as she stood up and made her way to the door, “That’s on me, I guess, for trying to poach you. I’ll just have to prove you wrong when I become the Pirate King and get there first.”
She glanced over her shoulder and gave them a smirk and a wink, “I’ll see you on All Blue.”
And with that, she left.
Once she was gone, Sanji growled and shoved Luffy off of him, “What the hell was that?”
“What was what?” Luffy asked, his hand inching towards whatever Sanji was frying in the pan.
Sanji slapped his hand away, “Why were you so damn rude to her? Bonney is a lady and our ally!”
“Bonney is a pirate,” Luffy frowned as he rubbed his stinging hand, “And she was trying to steal you from me. I wasn’t gonna sit back and let her.”
“Idiot,” Sanji drawled as he rolled his eyes, “Did you honestly think I was going to go with her?”
“She liked you a lot. I can understand that, but…” Luffy lowered his hat so it covered his eyes, “You like pretty girls. You have a hard time saying no to them.”
The kitchen was silent for a moment, before Sanji sighed and lifted the brim of his hat, forcing him to look at him.
“I do like girls,” Sanji said, a slight blush on his face, “But I love you. Luffy, you’ve given me…so much. You gave me my dream back, you gave me my life back. I don’t even have the words to thank you for everything you’ve done for me. Even the thought of me joining another crew is ridiculous.”
“You don’t need to thank me,” Luffy said as he wrapped his arm around Sanji’s waist, “I love you too, and I want to keep you by my side.”
“I’m not going anywhere,” Sanji assured him as he stepped closer, then tweaked his nose and shook his head, “Which is why there’s no reason to be rude to our guests!”
Luffy whined as he squirmed away from the pinch, “Sorry, Sanji. It won’t happen again.”
“Good,” Sanji huffed, then leaned down and kissed Luffy’s forehead.
“You have me,” Sanji whispered against this skin, “You’ll always have me.”
Luffy grinned as he basked in his words, leaning forward so he could kiss his forehead too, “You have me too.”
“Good,” Sanji smiled at him, a small, soft one that was just for Luffy, “Now get the hell out of here so I can finish dinner.”
Luffy grinned, stealing one last cheek kiss from Sanji and a piece of chicken from the frying pan before bolting out of the kitchen, Sanji shouting expletives after him.
Out on deck, he saw Bonney talking to Nami by the railing. Their eyes met for a moment, and she pouted and glared at him before turning back to her.
Luffy grinned, but left his victory at that. Sanji told him to be nice, and despite all this he did still like Bonney.
It didn’t matter anyway. After all, Luffy already had the greatest treasure of all.
Sanji was his, and nothing was going to change that.
