A year since the nigh apocalyptic end to the Battle Over Octovern, Vash the Stampede still lives despite himself and makes his way to pay respects to a departed friend on the anniversary of his death. Along the way, whispers from plants involving a new Independent born on No Man's Land a year ago has Vash realizing once again that death isn't nearly so finite as one would like. Faced with the realities of human nature against uncertainty and unknowns, can Vash find this Independent before he loses them again?
