    While being confronted with Outlook III and Bluejam, it's Garp that comes to their rescue and he isn't willing to lose his grandsons to these thugs.
    Seeing what some pirates are capable off, makes the brothers think and choose to go with Garp anyway. Working their way up in the Marine's ranks, even if Ace goes 'undercover' with the Whitebeard Pirates, Sabo 'spies' on the Revolutionary Army and Luffy... well, Luffy keeps being Luffy collecting his band of unique individuals.
