Chapter 1: A world of masks

Chapter Text

Susie woke up with a strange but familiar feeling. She opened her eyes and saw a TV, blue fading to green walls and a patterned floor. She rapidly blinked to make sure what she was seeing was accurate. She got up to a sitting position and looked around, this definitely wasn't Kris's house. She then noticed another thing, she was in her dark world outfit.

'Okay that settles where the hell i am but now what happened? The Knight? If that's true then would they be here?' She thought but her attention was diverted from that dilemma by Toriel beginning to wake up.

‘Oh dear I must’ve fallen asleep.’ Toriel thought as she awakened from her slumber. She quickly noticed that this was not her house or any place she recognised in hometown. Panic coursed through her veins, where were they, were they kidnapped by whoever slashed her tires. She looked around the only people there were Kris, who looked asleep and Susie who was wide awake and deep in thought.

Toriel got up and examined the room, at the back of the couches they woke up and there was what looked like a bar with some wires coming down from the ceiling. along with a vending machine and door flanking it. She then heard a sound from Kris’ direction.

Kris rolled over dropping onto the dark worlds floor, they had to admit that feeling the confusion coursing through that thing controlling them was satisfying. As they got up, Toriel rushed over to them. “My child, are you ok?” Toriel asked, kneeling down beside them. Kris simply nods. "Excellent, now where are we?" She questioned.

"Heh well would you believe me if I said this was a dream?" Susie said hoping that it would work like last time.

Toriel blinked, having not thought of that she then proceeded to pinch herself. "No it's definitely not a dream. Now what's going on?" Toriel asked slightly more sternly.

"Well um. (Kris a little help here)" Susie whispered to her friend.

Kris replied that they were in a dark world. Toriel raised her brow.

"What exactly is a 'dark world'?" Toriel asked, examining the area.

"It's well (shit why couldn't Ralsei be here to explain the nerd stuff) it's a world that's created with the people that inhabit it being objects in the light world" Susie explained the limited knowledge she had about the subject. Toriel looked slightly confused. "Ah nevermind, we have a friend that's better with this stuff." Susie began to walk around the area.

"So should we go looking for this friend of yours?" Toriel asked, Susie thought about it on one hand staying here and waiting for Ralsei to get Toriel caught up would be the sensible thing to do, strength in numbers and all but they might as well get a start on their next adventure, right?

Kris looked like they were about to answer before Susie interrupted them. "We should probably get going, we have to get Kris to the dark fountain to get back to our world." She interjected.

"Very well, I shall trust you two as you seem like you went through this before. Lead the way" Toriel said, to which susie nodded and fell in line behind Kris, Toriel doing the same.

Kris went up to the orange door with a star on it and attempted to open it, it was locked. They turned around and walked up to the nearby double doors which were not locked. They walked along a short hallway until Kris stopped and signalled for them to be quiet.

"Welcome back everyone, last time we put the cake in and now it's ready to take out." The voice was calm and entrancing. "Now we'll turn it onto the cooling rack and leave it for the time being. Now let's get started on the icing."

Some time later

"That's all for today, tune in for tomorrow where we'll be making homemade pasta." The voice finished as the lights seemed to dim to regular levels. Kris continued onto what looked like a kitchen where the voice originated from.

Kris walked up to the star in-between a set of double ovens and a sink, the scent of freshly baked goods hanging in the air. The power of baked goods shone within their soul. They began examining the fridge, there was nothing but ingredients.

The group continued through the double doors to the opposite of where they began. They emerged in a hallway with a cream coloured floor and white walls which was very different from the room they were just in with bluish green tiled walls and wooden floors. The group walked right, ending up at a deadend with a teleporting door frame and another with a chest containing a piece of armour that looked like old film, which they gave to Toriel since she didn’t have any.

They eventually went the opposite way. At the end of that hall there was what looked like a chef’s hat with a door in the middle, so they decided to investigate. “hello, hello how may I help you." The same voice as before said.

Toriel blinked in surprise, the voice came from a chef's hat spewing flames from the bottom floating above a chest that looked like a stove all while wearing an apron.

Kris looked around the various wears this chef had however they didn't have much in the way of dark dollars, so they just bought a couple of healing items and continued on.

They emerged from the door onto a cloud? The group took in the surroundings.
"So what should we do now?" Toriel asked, still in a bit of shock going from a regular hallway to a cloud in the sky.

"You guys seem like you're lost." A voice called out, the group looked towards it. The person had one hand in their suit’s pocket while the other was holding a rod with a pointing finger on top of it.

“Yeah, could you point us in the direction of the dark fountain.” Susie asked the darkner.

The darkner pointed the rod to a giant screen in the distance. “Just walk up to it and you’ll be able to get the first part of the key to it.”

They walked to the end of the cloud, they had no way of getting to that screen. “Great, what’re we gonna do now?” Susie asked, looking for any way to get to the screen. The ground shook. “What the fuck.” The part they were on separated from the cloud they were on and began floating towards the clouds surrounding the screen.

The screen showed a gold and grey castle on clouds with antennas sticking out of two of the towers. They stepped in.
