“I think this is a good place to move into,” Shiho said, looking around the house.
“It definitely fits all three of us,” Shinichi agreed. “A bit on the small side, maybe, but we all have enough room.”
Kaito was gaping at Shinichi. “A bit on the small side? This place is huge!”
“He grew up in a mansion,” Shiho reminded him. “Of course he’s going to think it’s small.”
Shinichi rolled his eyes at the two of them. “Kaito, do you think this place is good?”
The three of them were currently standing inside a house. As all three were now adults and finished with college (Shiho had finished a long time ago, actually, so it had almost been like she had been sitting there waiting for the other two to catch up), they had finally decided to move into the same house. And though Shinichi had offered his mansion, the other two declined. It wasn’t exactly his mansion, after all. It belonged to his parents.
“I think it’s great,” Kaito said, grinning.
“Found a place for your Kid room yet?” Shinichi asked, a little dryly.
Kaito shot him a glare. “Yes, I have.”
A detective, a thief, and a scientist. All living together.
And, Kaito reminded himself as he smelled Shinichi’s scent, not only on his clothes but on Shiho and Kaito’s as well, that Shinichi was an alpha, Kaito was an omega, and Shiho was a beta. Wow, there really were a lot of different secondary sexes in this house.
“Then let’s move here,” Shinichi decided. “Unless you guys want to look at different places too?”
Shiho shook her head. “We’ve looked at enough. This is good.”
Kaito nodded in agreement, and the decision was made.
This would be their new home.
It had taken a while for the house to look better inside, regarding things such as furniture. Now, it actually looked like people lived in it.
Kaito let out a content sigh as he lay on the bed. All three of them had separate beds if need be it, but all three beds were big enough to fit all three people. Kaito expected a lot of bed sharing in the future.
“That’s my bed, you know,” Shinichi said, sounding amused.
“Excuse you, it’s our bed now,” Kaito shot back. “Every bed here belongs to all three of us.”
Shinichi rolled his eyes fondly. “If you say so.”
“And the kitchen only belongs to two of us,” Shiho told him. “You stay out of it, Shinichi. Forever.”
“What about coffee?”
“I’ll leave any supplies you need for coffee outside the kitchen, but you must exercise caution around them as well.”
Shinichi nodded. “And if neither are you are here? How am I going to eat breakfast?”
Shiho paused, thought for a moment, then said, “Eat toast.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Shinichi said. Kaito knew he already just ate toast whenever he couldn’t get his hands on any other breakfast food.
“Let’s just sleep for now,” Kaito said. “It’s late.”
Shinichi and Shiho glanced at each other, nodded, and lay down on the bed as well, despite the fact that they were not in pajamas yet. Oh well.
“Goodnight,” the three of them told each other, and slowly, one by one, began to fall asleep.
“You smell horrible,” Kaito muttered to Shinichi when he woke up in the morning. It wasn’t true, Shinichi smelled amazing, but that just made Kaito grumpy because how could the alpha smell so good?
Shinichi stared at him before turning to Shiho, who was also waking up. “You know,” he said, “I actually think betas have the best scents.”
A pleased smirk made its way onto Shiho’s face, and she gave Kaito a look. Kaito sighed and got off the bed. “Let’s make breakfast,” he sighed.
“No,” Shiho said. “I’m tired. You’re tired. Get Shinichi to make us some toast.”
Shinichi glared at her. “After I just complimented you?”
“It’s a little experiment,” Shiho replied. “If you manage to not burn down the house while making toast, then we’ll all be relieved, and you will be trusted with the act of toast making.”
Shinichi rolled his eyes, though Kaito saw affection in them. “Alright,” he said, getting up. Kaito lay back down in the bed as Shinichi headed off to the kitchen.
Now the room descended into silence. Kaito and Shiho weren’t dating, they were just metamours - Kaito was gay, after all - and though they got along very well, it was still a little bit awkward for them to do things like sharing a bed without Shinichi in between.
Kaito cleared his throat. “Well,” he said. “I guess we should sleep a bit longer?”
“It won’t take that long for Shinichi to make toast, surely,” Shiho said. “We can stay awake a bit longer.”
Kaito had to concede she had a point. “Alright,” he breathed out. “Let’s wait.”
And surprisingly, the toast Shinichi made was pretty good.
They fell into a routine. Shiho or Kaito would make breakfast, depending on who got up first, and then they would do whatever their jobs required them to do. Kaito spent a lot of time in his new Kid Cave, organizing it in a way that was most convenient for him, and planned heists to find Pandora - because really, that gem was so fucking hard to find. Shiho was in her lab and Shinichi was out stumbling across murders because he was apparently a murder magnet.
It was a routine that suited them, because after their long days (or nights, sometimes, in Kaito’s case especially), they would be able to be together.
Few things changed their routines. Kaito’s heats or Shinichi’s ruts did so, but they quickly adapted new routines for those instances. (Shiho looked smug about the fact that as a beta, she wouldn’t have to go through those.) Sometimes all three got involved in a murder case, which Kaito found tiring.
Still, after these routine changes, they would be able to spend time together.
And that, Kaito thought, was what mattered.
