We’ve all Shot People

Summary:

Beta read by my beautiful sister. Who put the idea of of Ben and Yassen meeting in my mind and reminded me that they have had both good and bad interactions with Alex that parallel each other.

Chapter Text

“Ben we get it Yassen shot Ian. He also shot multiple people who were about to shoot me so bit of a mixed bag.” When Alex woke up this morning he didn’t expect to referee an argument between his ‘favorite’ MI6 agent and an assassin that had put more effort into keeping him alive than MI6 ever had. Alex found himself standing between Yassen lounging on his couch and Ben attempting to tower over him.

“If he hadn’t shot your Uncle—“ Ben gestured over Alex’s shoulder.

Alex held his ground. “Then I’d be dead 3 times over at least. I’m not happy about it but I’ve accepted it and moved on. As my friend I’m asking you to do the same. He also took a bullet for me something you two have in common.”

“I’ve also avoided killing your remaining family.” Ben clearly felt that he held the trump card.

Yassen’s smug grin didn’t bode well for the tempers of those involved in this argument but there was no stopping him. “Yes because killing his Godfather is so much better.” He leaned back into the couch and watched Ben with bright eyes.

Ben turned to Alex, “Your godfather? Alex what is he talking about?”

Alex glared at Yassen, who was unrepentant, and while considering how to best explain, took a seat across the room to buy himself time. “So, you remember the guy on the oil rig?”

“Alex you’ll have to be more specific. There were a lot people on that rig.” Ben’s voice had gentled and his attention was fixed on Alex even going so far as turn his back on Yassen.

“The one I was talking to when you showed up.”

“Yeah you said he was no one,” Ben’s face fell, “no Alex why didn’t you say something. I’m so sorry.” Ben took a seat on the couch cushion closest to Alex and reached over as if to console him. It was unnecessary but the impulse was nice.

“Don’t be you don’t know the whole story.” Alex looked at Yassen and finished, “The short version is he killed my parents.”

That wiped off Yassen’s smug grin. Clearly he hadn’t known.

“So Ben did me a favor or at the very least it’s not his fault my god father wasn’t fulfilling his role. I didn’t know I had a godfather until Brooks told me.”

“Look Alex I’m so—“

Alex cut him off “Don’t be we’ve all shot people and been shot but we haven’t shot each other and that’s what’s important.”

Ben and Yassen stood up from the couch simultaneously and yelled over each other.

“You shot someone—“

“You’ve been shot—“

Alex just groaned and leaned his head back to look at the ceiling. Was it too late to let them shoot each other?
