Work Text:
The last time Shouto had seen Touya in person was when his brother ran away from home many years ago.
13-year-old Touya didn’t look back at them at all when he left the house. Shouto remembers his younger self wondering what was happening with his brother. He didn’t know what was the reason why Touya was leaving.
It was only later that his father suddenly changed and explained everything to him. And Shouto didn’t know what to feel after that.
It’s the fact that apparently Touya… hated him. Touya envied him. Touya saw Shouto as his replacement. And Touya couldn't deal with this family anymore, so he ran away.
Young Shouto was heartbroken to hear that.
While it was his father’s fault as well, Shouto never hated himself that much before. Why did Touya never tell him? Weren’t they close? Weren’t they brothers?
They filed a missing person report in private. But they couldn’t do much without getting the news out to the public.
His family changed after that. His father was out more and the training time was reduced to only the evening.
His mother looked guilty but started spending time with them more. Natsuo was angry at their parents, blaming them for what happened to Touya. And Fuyumi was still the same, but a little sad that Touya is gone.
Shouto didn’t change much in his family’s eyes. Even though on the inside he felt like he was going insane. His brother literally ran away because of Shouto.
Years passed. And Shouto didn’t use his fire even once. There were many reasons why. One of them was just to spite his father, but the main reason was that it always reminded him of Touya. If Shouto didn’t have the fire, then his brother would still be here.
No one forgot about Touya. But they couldn’t find the boy anywhere. The only good thing about that is that they weren’t a body either.
So Touya wasn’t dead.
(Yet.)
Until one day. Five years later. The day is Touya's eighteenth birthday. They were lounging around the living room when Fuyumi suddenly ran out of her room and opened the TV.
“Fuyumi?” Natsuo asked.
His sister didn’t answer but pointed shakily at the screen.
Shouto watched confusedly. It was a replay of a fashion show of some popular clothing brand.
“Fuyumi? What-”
“Look!”
Shouto flinched when Fuyumi cut their father off. But everyone forgot about that as soon as they saw him on the screen.
“-Todoroki Touya. An up-and-coming model under Hawks’ agency. He’s only eighteen but-”
“-Very surprising that he doesn’t want to become a hero like his father, Endeavor-”
At that moment, everyone, including Shouto, felt like they didn’t know Touya at all.
Shouto sighs as he walks out of the USJ. Who would’ve thought that villains would dare to invade UA.
Thankfully, no one is severely injured. Most people will thank All Might, but Shouto thinks Midoriya deserves all the credit. He single-handedly dealt and stalled the monster made to kill All Might until the heroes came.
Shouto finishes talking with the detective and walks tiredly away from the building.
He can’t help but look at Midoriya when it’s his turn to talk to the detective. Shouto blinks in surprise when the man ruffles Midoriya’s hair and offers the green-haired boy a hug.
Midoriya is easy to read like an open book. But every day there are new things to discover about his classmate. Shouto wonders if there will be a day when he knows every secret of Midoriya.
Shouto is standing next to his classmates waiting for someone to come pick him up when a flash of red catches his eyes. His eyes widen.
His classmates gasp as The Number Three Hero Hawks lands on the ground gracefully.
The man folds his wings and looks around until he spots what he’s looking for.
Everyone's jaws drop when Hawks suddenly shouts. “Izuku-chan!” And rushes forward to swoop Midoriya into a tight hug.
(Another one of Midoriya’s secrets, again.)
“K-Keigo!” Midoriya blushes as the hero nuzzles his face against the boy’s soft and fluffy hair.
Hawks grabs Midoriya's face and leans in. “Are you okay? Any injuries? Did you beat any villains?”
Midoriya’s face is impossibly getting redder. “Keigo! L-let me down! I’m fine, see?”
Unknown to them, everyone is still watching them with wide eyes and various shocked expressions. Shouto doesn’t know what to think of their public display of affection…
“D-didn’t Midoriya says that his boyfriend will come to pick him up?” Uraraka blushes and whispers to her group.
“Damn! I can’t believe Mido-bro has a boyfriend before us!” Kirishima shouts excitedly as he comes up next to Shouto.
Mina squeals. “Oh my god! Midoriya’s boyfriend is Hawks?! The Hawks?!”
The girls let out a scream when they hear that. Shouto winces at the loud noise.
But to be honest, it’s very shocking that Midoriya's boyfriend is Hawks. The green-haired boy is quite… cute he will admit. But he doesn’t seem like the type to date before anyone else. And to one of the top heroes, no less. How did he even manage to contact Hawks anyway? Through All Might perhaps?
But anyway, this is none of his business.
Midoriya gives them a dirty look. “Keigo isn’t my boyfriend!”
Hawks cries. “Izuku-chan! Why did you say that? Did our first kiss mean nothing to you?” He sniffles and buries his face in Midoriya’s neck.
The action makes everyone blush and screams again. Shouto is pretty sure some of them bring out their phones too.
Midoriya pushes the man away and clears his throat. “I’m serious! K-Keigo is my boyfriend’s friend.”
Hawks wraps his arm around Midoriya’s waist and pull him against his chest, resting his chin on top of the boy’s hair, ignoring the guy’s protest. “Fineee. I’m just close by so I come and see if my baby is okay.”
The Winged hero seems a little too close to be considered a ‘boyfriend’s friend’. But again, not Shouto’s business.
His classmates are still watching the duo but they start guessing who Midoriya's boyfriend is.
“Maybe it’s another hero. Top 10 maybe?” Sero suggests.
Somehow, almost everyone in the class ends up discussing Midoriya's love life. Shouto listens to the conversation quietly.
“Bro. We’re like half their age.”
“Maybe Midoriya likes older men!”
“Oh my god, guys!” Midoriya shouts as he continues to blush. The fact that Hawks starts laughing too doesn’t help the poor guy.
“Well, you kids don’t need to guess anymore. Here he comes.” Hawks gestures to the road and a black Sedan pulls up next to them. The hero lets Midoriya go and the green-haired boy hurries out to meet the driver.
“Touya!”
Shouto’s heart stops.
He feels like he can’t breathe as he stares at the man getting out of the car. The tall, white-haired man pulls off his sunglasses, and Shouto stills when he sees those familiar blue eyes…
That’s Touya.
His brother, Touya.
“Oh my fucking god. Hagakure, tell me I’m dreaming right now.”
“I don’t think so, Mina!” The girls scream and grab onto each other. Even Yaoyorozu looks shocked.
“Uh, girls? What’s going on?” Kaminari asks confusedly and keeps glancing back at the attractive man.
Jirou is the only one who looks okay even though she’s also blushing. She twirls her Earphone Jack and glances at Touya who pulls Midoriya in for a hug. “That’s ’Todoroki’ Touya. Probably one of the most famous models out there.”
At the word Todoroki, everyone turns to him. Shouto hides a wince. “…I’m not close with my brother.” He settles on that. Shouto doesn’t know what else to say. He just can’t believe that Touya is here. Shouto hasn’t seen his brother for what? More than ten years?
And he’s here to- oh… Touya is Midoriya’s boyfriend.
What?!
“Damn, get it, Midoriya.” Sero whistles.
“Oh! Touya is a model under Hawks’ agency! That’s why the guy is the boyfriend’s friend!” Mina says excitedly.
Shouto tunes them out and keeps staring at his brother. He can’t believe Touya is really here. And Shouto isn’t sure what he’s supposed to do.
Should he go and confront Touya? Should he go and say hello? What about Midoriya? Does his classmate know that he’s dating Shouto’s brother?
But he still can’t believe that Midoriya really has a boyfriend. And it’s Touya .
Touya looks the same yet so different.
He doesn’t look like his father that much… He’s taller, of course. Lean build like a model he is. Confident in his body, charismatic, and charming. He’s very handsome as well. Judging from the way everyone's eyes never leave him.
The more Shouto describes him, the more he sounds like he’s describing a stranger.
Shouto averts his eyes when Touya leans down to kiss Midoriya. They don’t seem to care at all that there’s an audience. Hawks even brings out his phone to take a photo of them.
They break apart and Midoriya turns to his classmates with a blush on his face. “W-well, I’m gonna go now. See you guys later?”
While everyone says their goodbyes, Shouto decides to maybe go and talk to Touya a bit if he can. He doesn’t know if he will get another chance to meet his brother again. But Shouto freezes in his tracks as his brother suddenly looks his way and makes eye contact with him.
Shouto opens his mouth but quickly shuts it when Touya looks past him and walks away to his car.
…What?
He can’t breathe. That hurts. A lot.
Shouto doesn’t understand. Why? Is he in a rush? Did he not see Shouto? But they made eye contact. Even for a second. He’s sure that Touya can recognize him.
He stares blankly as Hawks and Midoriya get in the car after Touya. And he watches dejectedly as the car drives off.
Shouto feels like crying.
“I met Touya today.”
Glass shatters behind him and Natsuo quickly rushes to his mother who drops it.
“What did you just say?” His father stands up abruptly, dropping whatever he was doing with his phone earlier.
Shouto sighs and puts down his chopsticks. “Touya was here at UA today.”
“Why was he there? A-and did you say anything to him? Or did he say anything?” Fuyumi asks nervously.
Shouto waits until his mother and Natsuo join the table and sighs again. “He came to pick up his boyfriend— a classmate, Midoriya. And…”
“Boyfriend?!” Fuyumi gasps.
He nods. “Yeah. I don’t know that celebrities can date. But um-”
He knows that they will be devastated hearing this, but he doesn’t want to keep it to himself either. “I know he saw me. But he just… didn’t even give me a second look. He looked past me, like I wasn’t there. Why did he do that?”
His family is silent and Shouto doesn’t even want to look up to see their expression.
“M-maybe he was just in a hurry, you know? Being a celebrity and all that.” Natsuo speaks up, trying to break the tension in the room.
Shouto shakes his head. “I don’t know. But I just don’t understand.”
Dinner is quiet today.
“You sure he’ll be here?”
“Obviously! His boyfriend is participating, right? Which one is Midoriya again?” Natsuo pulls Fuyumi to sit down next to him.
Shouto sends them a concerned look. “The cute guy with green hair. You guys sure you’ll be fine?”
Natsuo raises his eyebrows. “Don’t call your brother’s boyfriend cute, okay? Even though he kinda is.”
Fuyumi digs him in the ribs, hoping Natsuo will shut up. He does.
“A-anyway. These are um VIP seats for the hero course’s parents, right? So nothing bad is going to happen. Go join your friends!” She says as she pushes Shouto away.
“They’re not my friends,” Shouto mumbles to himself and quickly walks to everyone who’s waiting for the event to start on the field.
He ends up standing next to Midoriya and the guy smiles at him. “You make it just in time, Todoroki-kun!”
Shouto nods and doesn’t say anything else. Midoriya doesn’t seem to mind his attitude and stays quiet by his side.
But he can’t help but keep stealing a glance at his brother’s boyfriend next to him. Midoriya normally doesn’t talk to him even in class. So him speaking to Shouto definitely screams suspicious.
Did Touya tell Midoriya about him? But they share the same surname. Surely Midoriya already knows from the start.
But before he can continue his train of thought, Midnight-sensei starts the first event.
Fine. Shouto has a race to win anyway.
Midoriya destroyed him.
And the guy doesn’t even need to use his quirk.
Shouto pants hard as he hunches over on his knees. Second place isn’t bad, but it isn’t good enough.
Midoriya notices him and jogs over, waving enthusiastically. “Todoroki-kun!”
God, Midoriya is like literal sunshine. Shouto squints at the bright smile his classmate sends his way.
“Midoriya.” He says, still panting.
Midoriya beams when Shouto replies to him this time, “That was really close! You were amazing, Todoroki-kun!”
Not as amazing as Midoriya apparently. Shouto stands up properly and sighs. He really needs to talk to Midoriya. There are so many things to talk about and Shouto feels angsty the more time passes.
After the second event then. He will ask Midoriya everything after this.
Shouto quickly walks away to find a team after Midnight announces the second event. He sees in the corner of his eye that Midoriya is about to walk after Shouto but luckily Uraraka stops him.
He probably can’t focus if Midoriya is on his team anyway.
Never mind. He loses again. Second place after Midoriya, again.
“Midoriya, I need to talk to you.” Shouto stops his classmates before he can go away.
The guy blinks. “Uh, sure? What’s up?”
Shouto resists the urge to sigh again. “In private.”
“Oh! Alright!”
Well, that was easy. He thought Midoriya would be more curious about why Shouto suddenly talked to him. And Shouto is starting to get suspicious. So Touya doesn’t tell his boyfriend anything? Or is Midoriya pretending to be clueless right now?
He stares unblinkingly at the young man, but Midoriya only continues to smile.
Yeah. Midoriya definitely knows something.
After Midnight announces that they can go, Shouto quickly leads Midoriya away from the field. He walks for a while until he finally finds a quiet and secluded hallway far away from any prying eyes.
“Midoriya.”
“Todoroki-kun?” He tilts his head. It’s an innocent act, but that smile is not. Midoriya definitely knows, and he expects Shouto to ask about Touya and him.
Shouto doesn’t plan to follow that.
“Are you All Might’s secret love child?”
A second passes and Midoriya’s smile freezes.
“W-what?!” He sputters and all that smiley, collected demeanor is gone.
Shouto smirks mentally. Now they’re talking.
“Did Touya say anything to you?” He asks.
Midoriya gathers himself and shrugs. “Well, he said a lot of things. You're gonna have to be specific, Todoroki-kun.”
Shouto pursues his lips. There are too many things to ask. But they don’t have that much time, and he’s sure that his classmates will tell his boyfriend about this immediately.
“Does Touya remember me?” Let’s start with that.
Midoriya nods.
“So why did he ignore me when we met?”
Midoriya blinks. “Oh! U-um. Actually, I don’t know why he did that. But he shouldn’t have! What an asshole.” Shouto feels like he isn’t meant to listen to that last part. But since the hallway is quiet, he hears every mumble Midoriya does.
It’s an interesting dynamic, to say the least. Shouto can’t imagine someone like Midoriya being Touya’s boyfriend at all.
“Then what do you know? Did Touya ever tell him about me? About his family? Why did he never come back?”
Midoriya looks like he wants to bolt any second. “Damn. I thought I was prepared to be interrogated. I guess not.” He mutters and turns back to Shouto. “Uh, I know everything? Touya told me about his past. B-but I don’t think I should be the one who answers that last question.”
He huffs, a little bit frustrated that he almost gets nothing from this conversation. “So-”
“Tsk, tsk. Why is Todoroki Shouto talking to my boyfriend in a place far from people like this? Sounds scandalous.”
Shouto flinches as Touya suddenly appears out of nowhere with his model friends trailing behind him like bodyguards. His brother walks closer, stops across from Shouto, and pulls Midoriya against him. “Sweetheart, you didn’t answer my texts.” He murmurs.
Midoriya blushes. “Ah. I’m sorry. Todoroki-kun wants to talk, so…”
“My, now you’re choosing him over me? Don’t tell me you have a Todoroki kink. Gotta catch 'em all , huh?”
”Touya!” Midoriya screams, mortified.
Shouto can only watch in confusion. Is this how relationships are supposed to be? Or is Midoriya being harassed by his brother right now? And he also doesn’t get the…joke? Touya’s friends are all laughing, but Shouto doesn’t understand.
“Anyway. Little Shouto, what do you want with my boyfriend?”
Shouto is uncomfortable with everyone’s eyes on him. And he can’t read anyone’s face except for Midoriya who looks concerned.
“I-I just wants to ask him about you.” He says quietly.
Touya tilts his head. “Oh, really? Why not talk to me then? Pretty sure Present Mic announced very loudly that I’m here.”
Shouto… doesn’t like this Touya. Why is this guy so mean for no reason?
Maybe the reason is him. Touya hates them, right? That’s why he left and never returned. Shouto doesn’t understand.
“You didn’t seem to want to talk to me at the USJ.”
Touya huffs. “Yeah, that’s true.”
Shouto wonders how Midoriya can deal with his brother’s behavior. He stands there contemplating whether he should just give up trying to talk to Touya or just ask him something and be done with this. Because this isn’t the same Touya many years ago he remembers from his memory.
(Or is Shouto never close to his brother in the first place?)
“Why did you run away? And why did you never come back?” He asks through his gritted teeth.
Touya’s snort startles him. Shouto looks into the stranger’s eyes and wants to take a step back.
Touya pushes Midoriya gently toward the blond-haired man behind him. “Kise, you and the other should go find something to eat with Izuku. He must be hungry right now.”
‘Kise’ smiles brightly. “Okay! Come on, Midoriyacchi.” Just like Hawks, the man is a little bit too close to his classmates. The model wraps his long arms around Midoriya’s waist, pulls him close, and leads the green-haired boy away from the scene.
Midoriya looks back at them worryingly but doesn’t say anything.
Shouto turns back to Touya and immediately realizes that he’s not ready for this.
“You really have no idea?” Touya asks.
Shouto shakes his head.
The man chuckles humorlessly. “Fine. Let’s get this over with. So you can go have lunch or whatever.”
It's nice of Touya to be concerned for his well-being.
“Long story short, Enji tossed me aside after you were born. No one cared about me anymore. Not Rei, not Fuyumi and Natsuo. So what’s the point of staying? I might sound like a spoiled, untitled brat but it is what it is. I wanted to be a hero like Endeavor my whole life, but that dream got ripped away from me. I was thinking about trying to prove myself by training more. But oh well, I guess I was enough with all of this. I had the chance so I ran. Best decision I’ve ever made.”
Shouto stands there, speechless. He stares at the man in front of him and frowns. He doesn’t know what to say to that. Everyone always tells him that it’s all his father’s fault. His father even says so. But to hear it straight from Touya?
“Your father started a fire and didn’t care to put it out. He just left it there to smolder. Just thank me the fire didn’t erupt.” Touya says bitterly.
“…Father changed though,” Shouto replies after a moment.
Touya smiles coldly. “Yeah. After I was gone.”
Shouto doesn’t have anything to say to that. And he doesn’t get the chance to since Present Mic announces that the third and final event will start soon.
“Not that I expect a golden child like you to understand. Well, just go. No point telling you good luck when Izuku’s gonna win anyway. See ya.” Touya waves and walks away. Shouto waits for him to walk ahead and quietly follows him to the stadium.
(Of course, he doesn’t get to eat lunch as well.)
Shouto wins easily against Sero. But he can’t focus at all. All he wants is just to go back to his siblings and tell them everything about Touya.
And now he has to fight Midoriya. The green-haired boy smiles at him and Shouto kind of wants to punch it out of his face.
Midnight signals them to start. Shouto immediately summons his ice, the same strategy as last round, but Midoriya activates his quirk and easily dodges the attack. Green lighting lights up the area and Shouto can’t help but admire the beauty. He continues his ice attack but it seems useless.
He blinks once and Midoriya is right in front of him. Shouto ducks down to avoid the kick and quickly sends his fire to get the guy away from him.
“Oh, cool. Touya’s fire is hotter.”
Midoriya mumbles to himself but Shouto hears it anyway. Ugh, why does he need to mention him now?
Shouto is distracted for a second and instantly gets kicked. He grabs Midoriya’s ankle and throws him away with all of his strength. Midoriya looks shocked but quickly gains his balance.
There’s literally no way Shouto can win this. He summons his fire again and charges his classmates. Midoriya meets him halfway and when he’s close, Shouto summons his ice too.
Well, apparently, fire and ice create explosions.
Shouto makes a wall behind him, preventing the blast from pushing him out of the ring. But Midoriya already jumps through the explosion and rushes towards him.
“Let’s go, Izuku!”
Shouto grits his teeth and makes another wall in front of him. The stadium is so loud. How can he hear Touya so clearly? Fuck this, he’s so tired of thinking about Touya. His brother is so frustrating.
And damn it, he’s distracted again. Because this time Midoriya doesn’t kick but punches instead. The punch breaks the ice wall and the impact sends Shouto out of the ring.
He lies there watching the sky. Finally, he can go see his family now.
He hears footsteps coming his way and he finds Midoriya’s face inches away from him.
“T-Todoroki-kun! Are you okay?”
Shouto closes his eyes. “No.”
“…oh.”
“What do you mean Touya doesn’t want to see us?!” Natsuo asks angrily.
Fuyumi frowns. “Natsuo! There are people inside the infirmary. And Shouto is injured! Stop shouting!”
Shouto sighs. “It’s fine. And he didn’t say it, I just assumed from what he said to me.” He rolls over. Hmm, this bed is comfortable.
“You talked to Touya?” His mother questions. She grabs his hand, massaging his bandaged hand gently.
He nods tiredly. He just wants to go home and sleep. Today is too much already.
Shouto turns his gaze to his father who doesn’t say anything else except to congratulate him earlier.
He opens his mouth but stops when he hears Midoriya outside the room.
“-come on! Let’s just check if he’s okay!”
The door slides open and Midoriya walks in. He catches Shouto's eyes and stands there like a rabbit caught in headlights.
“O-oh! Uh. Maybe this isn’t a good time.” The green-haired boy takes a step back.
Only to bump into a man behind him.
“What?” Touya frowns. He looks up and stops. “Oh, hello there.”
“Touya!” Everyone shouts, looking like they’re about to either cry or yell at him.
Touya gives them an annoyed look. “Great. A family reunion.”
His family is taken aback by his attitude. Shouto thinks he might be getting used to this now.
Midoriya scans the room and gives them a sheepish smile. “I-I’m just gonna go.” His classmate turns around but Touya quickly grabs the back of his neck and holds him there. Midoriya hesitantly turns to face them again.
“You’re staying right here, babe. You get a front-row seat for this show.”
Shouto looks at his family to see them in different states of shock.
“Touya? What?” Natsuo’s face falls like he can’t believe this is their brother.
Fuyumi is the first to take a step toward him. “T-Touya. W-we missed you.”
Touya rests his chin on Midoriya’s fluffy hair and hums. “Sure. But not that much, right? Since it’s only now that you guys wanna talk with me.”
“But you’re impossible to talk to! We tried to find you for so long, a-and suddenly you appeared out of nowhere and now you’re a celebrity! We couldn’t reach you!” Natsuo grits his teeth. “We couldn’t go to your agency because everyone was watching us. You didn’t reply to our emails. Hell, even Endeavor couldn’t get in contact with you!”
“Natsuo…” Mom says softly.
Shouto purses his lips and turns to his father. The man still doesn’t say anything and keeps clenching his fists.
Touya tilts his head. “I was just asking. It’s kinda obvious if you think about it.”
“What do you mean?” Fuyumi falters.
“It’s because I don’t want to see you guys. That’s the reason why you can’t find me.”
Shouto winces. That hurts. His mother’s face falls, and his siblings are close to tears.
“I know it’s been a decade. But-”
“Touya,” His father starts. “I know it’s too late. But I’m sorry.-”
Touya clicks his tongue. “As I was saying, everything is in the past now. I would appreciate it if you guys can move on from me.”
“But Touya-nii. Y-you’re my brother. You’re my family. I can’t just- let you go!”
“Touya, please. Come back home. Everything changed.”
Shouto listens to them trying quietly. He doesn’t have anything to say anymore. He looks at Midoriya only to see that his classmate is already looking at him.
‘Are you okay?’ Midoriya mouths.
Shouto is surprised by the concern but he nods back anyway.
Touya sighs and shakes his head. “Things changed after I’m gone.”
That shuts everyone up.
The tense silence is broken by Midoriya, who carefully speaks up. “Ah, the awards ceremony has already ended. A-and it’s getting pretty late. So… maybe we could go home and rest?”
All eyes are suddenly on the green-haired guy and he shrinks away, hiding his face in Touya’s chest.
“Yeah, let’s go home.” Shouto agrees, ignoring the incredulous look from his siblings.
“Shouto-” His father takes a step.
“Yes! Let’s go home! I promised to meet my fans after this. Follow me, Izuku!” Touya cuts the man off and quickly walks away, leaving Midoriya to stand there awkwardly.
“What are we waiting for? Follow him! We can’t let him leave like that!” Natsuo cries.
Surprisingly, Midoriya is the one who moves to block the door.
Natsuo glares. “Move, kid. I don’t care if you’re Touya’s boyfriend.”
“Look,” Midoriya says, glancing at everyone in the room. “I know I shouldn’t be meddling with your family’s business. But you guys gotta consider Touya’s feelings too! He doesn’t know how you change. His memories of this family are from many years ago. A father who discarded him because he wasn’t enough-”
His father flinches.
“Or a mother who hated him because he looked like his father-”
His mother pales.
“And his siblings who didn’t understand him at all!”
Shouto doesn’t need to look to know that they’re tears on their faces.
Midoriya’s gaze softens when he turns to Shouto. “I know you didn’t deserve Touya’s hostility. But Touya just hates you because you were born to replace him, I guess?”
He nods solemnly.
“I don’t know if Touya will ever be the same person you guys remember him. But you have to respect his feelings. If he doesn’t want to see you now, maybe later, okay?”
And now Shouto knows why Midoriya is perfect for Touya. The kindness, the gentleness, and many more things that Shouto can’t even describe in words.
“Let’s go home!” Midoriya smiles brightly, lighting up the entire room. His smile is as warm as the sun.
No one says anything but they move to follow the young man. Fuyumi appears by his side to help him carry his belongings.
Shouto watches Midoriya’s back as he leads them to the exit. He occasionally glances back to see his father—fire snuff out—walking close to his mother who looks devastated.
He mentally sighs. It’s going to take a long time for his family to be able to accept the truth.
Suddenly, Midoriya stops walking and turns around. “Uh, Touya and his friends are having a fan meeting right now. You guys might wanna stay here for a minute. They’ll be done soon!”
Shouto blinks as the guy gives them a thumbs up then jogs off towards the exit.
Why would he still go? Shouto frowns and quietly follows him.
Loud screams reach him when he finds the area. He decides to stay hidden behind a vending machine and peeks his head out to observe.
There are so many people there. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people are screaming the models’ names.
Does UA allow this? This is literally happening on campus.
“Yukimiya-sama!”
“Kise-sama! Sign my shirt please!”
“Touya-sama! Please look this way!”
And many more names that Shouto couldn’t quite catch.
But Shouto gets to see the way Touya interacts with his fans. The way he smiles at them, gives autographs, lets them take a selfie with him.
Wow. Touya really is a celebrity. Shouto can’t imagine himself doing the same thing when he becomes a full-fledged hero.
Midoriya runs up to the models and all eyes are immediately on him.
Wait. Don’t fans usually hate when their favorites have a lover? Will Midoriya be okay-
“Oh my god, Touya-sama’s boyfriend is here!”
“You’re so cute, Midoriya-kun!”
“Midoriya-kun! Please come take a picture with Touya-sama!”
“Congrats on the win! Ahh, you’re so adorable.”
Oh. He doesn’t need to worry after all. Of course they’re okay with the green-haired boy. He’s so lovable. No one could hate him.
Shouto watches fondly as Midoriya blushes as he moves closer to Touya and makes a heart pose with the man.
He realizes that this is the world that he will never get to be a part of. But that’s okay.
Shouto thinks it’s time they finally accept the fact that Touya isn’t the same anymore. He changes, and he won’t be back.
It’s time to let Touya go, let him be happy, and move on. No matter how long that will take them to do that.
