   Summary

   After Sharpe is rescued from months of torture with no purpose, he struggles to feel secure and safe physically and metaphorically in the whirlwind of army politics. Sergeant Harper refuses to leave his side, but suddenly his warmth and concern seem like a liability instead of an aid as Sharpe struggles to prove he still has worth to his superiors.
