Work Header

Day off work, but at what cost?

Summary:

— Neither Kaeya nor Albedo attended work today... Could it be that something happened to them?

Concern ate Jean inside due to Kaeya and Albedo's unusual absence from work, strongly fearing that something had happened with the blonde's condition, although her doubts were quickly resolved, upon receiving a letter from the blue-haired explaining.

"Jean, Albedo and I are sorry for the absence today, and I'm also sorry I can't go to explain this to you in person, everything is fine, don't worry, I know you probably already thought of 10 different tragedies.
Albedo's morning sickness has been getting worse these past few days and today has been really bad, I made the decision that it would be best for him to stay in bed today because his stomach wouldn't seem to be able to hold anything he eats at all, and I'm not going to let him alone.
Other than that, everything is fine, tomorrow if Albedo is better we'll go to the cathedral to see if the baby and everything in general is okay, so don't worry, we're sorry for the absence!

—Kaeya. "

Work Text:

— Neither Kaeya nor Albedo attended work today... Could it be that something happened to them? – Jean asks her wife with concern, with whom she was having tea at that time.

— Oh honey, why would something have happened to them? Maybe they both just fell asleep, don't worry. – Lisa answers calmly, serving her lover a little more tea.

Jean nodded silently and took her cup to drink her tea, wanting to agree with the brunette but knowing something she didn't, and being the cause of her worries.

But, as if the wind had heard her concern, suddenly someone was heard knocking on the door, they both looked up at it and let whoever was on the other side enter.

At the entrance permit, the door opened and Huffman was admitted, who seemed to be a little agitated from running.

— Sorry for interrupting, Acting Grandmaster! – The boy apologized quickly, taking the official greeting position. –

— Huffman… No, no problem, why aren't you in your position at the city? Something happened I assume?

— Yes! I-I mean, no! – The boy quickly corrects himself, not wanting to worry the woman, approaching and handing her a letter - The Cavalry Captain appeared at the city street handing me this, asking me to deliver it to you as soon as possible and apologizing for the absence.

— Kaeya...? – Jean quickly opened the letter with concern, while at the same time she asked the boy again – Did he... Did he look worried? Or nervous? As if something had happened?

— No ma'am, he just looked... tired? I think. – He says trying to stay as professional as possible, only having planned to deliver the letter and leave.

— Well... You can leave. – Jean says before starting to read the letter, noticing Lisa approaching curiously to read it too.

“ Jean, Albedo and I we're sorry for the absence of today, and I'm also sorry for not being able to go to explain to you in person, but everything is fine, don't worry, I know that you probably already thought of 10 different possible tragedies.
Albedo's morning sickness has been getting worse these past few days and today has been really bad, I made the decision that it would be best for him to stay in bed today because his stomach wouldn't seem to be able to hold anything he eats at all, and of course I'm not going to leave him alone.
Apart from that, everything is fine, tomorrow if Albedo is feeling better we will go to the cathedral to see if the baby and everything in general is fine, so don't worry, and we're sorry for the absence!

—Kaeya. "

Lisa quickly separated from Jean, placing her hands on her mouth, looking with wide eyes at Jean, completely surprised.

— Lisa... Sorry for not telling you, they asked me not to tell anyone until the third mon-...

— Are they going to have a baby!? – Lisa exclaims excitedly – Oh honey I don't care that you didn't tell me, I understand, but I can't believe it! I can't imagine Albedo with a round belly, he would look beautiful. – Lisa mentions laughing softly, but with good intentions, surprised by the news that her friends were going to have a baby.

— I can't imagine it either, but it excites me too – Jean responds with a smile – The idea of Kaeya being a father makes me happy, I know he's going to be an excellent one.

— I agree... But poor Albedo, nausea can't be easy... I could give him a recipe for some tea that helps to alleviate the nausea a bit. I'm surprised I didn't notice it before - She mentions while placing a hand on her chin, thoughtful.

— Yes... They probably aren't, I hope it goes away soon, but we could come by in the afternoon to bring him the recipe if you want – The blonde answers, agreeing with a grimace, not wanting to imagine how awful it must be not being able to keep any food in your stomach for so long – And about the fact that you haven't noticed, they've been hiding it surprisingly well, even I was surprised knowing that Kaeya is quite obvious, but I guess this is really serious for them and they really want to wait for the third month.

For the third time that day, Albedo found himself kneeling in front of the toilet, this time not throwing up his dinner from the night before, or his breakfast, but a simple cookie that he had tried to eat once his stomach seemed to have returned to normal, which clearly was, a mistake.

Kaeya, having returned in time after going to deliver the letter to Huffman, was behind him holding his hair with one hand and with the other leaving caresses on his back, trying to at least provide some comfort to his husband.

When Albedo finally felt that there was nothing else in his stomach to throw away, he sighed exhaustedly and leaned back, sitting on his legs, Kaeya quickly picked him up and sat him on his lap, still both on the ground, but at least being able to hug him comfortably.

Albedo dropped his face on his husband's shoulder, completely tired, and hungry, frustrated at not being able to ingest anything without his body deciding to discard everything completely within minutes.

Kaeya sighed, also frustrated at not being able to do much about his lover's state, but caressing his hair carefully, noticing how some involuntary tears had fallen down the blond's cheeks, and proceeded to wipe them away carefully with his hand.

— I can't stand this anymore... There must be a way to avoid this nausea, a potion or something, it doesn't make sense... – The boy mutters with frustration, before quickly separating from his husband's shoulder – I haven't wiped my mouth yet, I almost mess up your clothes - He says this time with a disgusted face, getting up quickly to wipe his mouth and brush his teeth, but getting dizzy from the speed and feeling his legs weaken under his own weight.

The blue-haired man quickly took him in his arms, preventing the other from falling, slowly shaking his head, worried.

— I've already told you not to get up like that after vomiting, you're going to end up falling, especially on days like today, clearly your body is going to be weaker after all this. – Kaeya says, technically scolding him but with a voice as soft and loving as possible, before helping the blond head to the sink and wipe his mouth while keeping his body from giving in to his weight again from exhaustion and weakness.

— Don't you think if there was a anti morning sickness potion someone would have made it already? – Kaeya asked inquisitively once Albedo finished brushing his teeth, while he took him in his arms in a nuptial way to take him back to bed.

— Kae, I can walk, and I don't care if someone created it or not, if I do enough research I should be able to.

— Aha, I prefer not to leave you on the floor and let your legs shake again and let you fall – Kaeya answers as he carefully leaves Albedo on the bed – And if you were able to make a potion for that, how would you test it? I want to believe that you are not going to be your own guinea pig, especially when you are pregnant. – Kaeya says looking seriously at his husband.

— If I didn't try it I would have no way of knowing if it works or not

— And if you try it and it goes wrong?

— Why are we arguing over a potion I don't plan on making?

Kaeya rolls his eyes and signals for Albedo to make room on the bed for him to lay down next to him.

Once curled up on the bed with the blonde in his arms, who was lying comfortably on his chest, Kaeya allows himself to relax a bit, as much as possible, since he wasn't really going to relax until Albedo could eat something and keep it in his stomach as usual.

— Mhm, Kae... Aren't you going to cook something for yourself? – The blonde asked in a somewhat low tone, since his voice was overshadowed because he had his face almost buried in his husband's chest, enjoying the warmth and comfort of it.

— No, you can't eat.

— But you do, you should.

— Not until you can, and I'd rather not try again until the afternoon or evening, I wouldn't want to risk you vomiting again so soon, your body is too weak already.

Albedo frowned and rose slightly from his position on the other's chest, looking at him with concern.

— Kaeya you can't just not eat because I can't, you have to feed yourself too.

— I'm not going to do it until you can, it's unfair.

Albedo sighed and placed his fingers on the bridge of his nose with frustration.

— It's not unfair, it's logical, you have to eat, I'm not going to feel bad because you eat and I don't, I literally vomited a cookie, it's not your fault nor mine.

— Partly it is my fault, because it's my fault you're pregnant...

Albedo looked at Kaeya with an incredulous expression, unable to believe the stupidity that had just come out of his husband's mouth.

Deciding that he did not have the energy or patience for him to put up with such stupidity, Albedo rose (regretfully) from his comfortable and warm position on top of his husband and took his arm lifting him off the bed.

— Bedo, don't get up, you have to rest.

— Go cook yourself something now or I'll do it myself. – The blonde says seriously, no longer wanting to reason with the other and opting for the easiest option, simply looking at him angrily.

Kaeya shuddered at that look, knowing that making Albedo angry was a terrible decision, and that since they had found out that he was pregnant, the hormones had started doing their thing and making him angry sounded even scarier than before, so Kaeya nodded and went to eat, but not before making sure that Albedo had gone back to bed to continue resting.

As he began to prepare something to eat, there was a knock on the door, confused by not knowing who could be, Kaeya headed for the door, surprised to find Lisa and Jean outside.

— Girls! I didn't expect you here, do you want to come in? – Kaeya asks, smiling at the image of his friends.

— No, no, Kaeya, don't worry, we came to leave you this, they are some recipes for some teas that could help alleviate Albedo's nausea a bit – Lisa says smiling, handing him a little notebook with said recipes along with a bag of some ingredients, plus one more bag, a little more delicate than the paper bag with the ingredients. – And one... little detail, don't open it until you're with Albedo.

— Oh, thank you girls, it wasn't neces-...Jean told you!?

— Nope! No! It just so happened that I read the letter you sent her this morning with her and I found out, Jean kept everything a secret until then, I'm sorry I found out before you wanted to, but congratulations to both of you! I am very happy to hear the news. - Lisa says smiling happily.

— Oh... Thank you very much - Kaeya says, smiling slightly - I'm sorry that you'll find out like this, I would have liked us both to tell you, and really thank you very much for the recipes, I hope some of them work, Bedo hasn't been able to eat anything at all all day without throwing it up... I can't stand seeing him like this, he's exhausted and can't even eat.

— Let's hope they work too, if you want I can ask Barbara to come by in the morning to see Albedo, so you don't have to go to the Cathedral – Jean says, wanting to help even a little.

— Honestly, it wouldn't be bad, I don't want to bother her, but if Albedo continues like today, the only way to go would be for me to take him there in my arms because I don't have much confidence that he can stay on his feet for a long time...

— It's okay, I'm sure it's not going to bother her, we already have to go, and we don't want to take more of your time either, I know you must be busy with all this.

Lisa nods at the words of her wife and this time she speaks.

— Yes, you should also have some tea to relax a bit, but not one of those, those are only for the nausea. We're leaving now, don't forget to open the bag together with Albedo! – Lisa reminds him smiling before they both turn and go to their house.

Kaeya smiled at the visit of both women and sighed closing the door behind him, figuring he should make himself a tea since he really needed to calm down as well.

The blue-haired man decided to look at the recipes and make the one that seemed the best to make now and give it to Albedo, hoping that it could finally calm down his stomach a bit, at least enough for him to eat something.

— Love... I'm already making myself something to eat, I promise, but Lisa and Jean came by to bring some recipes for teas that might help you reduce the nausea a bit, and I prepared one for you and I prepared a normal one for myself. To accompany you.... – Kaeya says, entering the room with the two cups, somewhat cautious since he was afraid that the blonde would still to be upset.

Albedo, who was curled up between the blankets, with a slightly miserable expression due to the exhaustion and frustration of the situation, smiles slightly when he sees his husband arrive and sits down carefully at the mention of tea.

— It doesn't seem like a bad idea, I hope that at least if it doesn't work out my stomach can handle it. – The blonde says, smiling as he sees his husband sitting on the edge of the bed next to him, and drinking a drink of tea – Wait- Lisa knows?

— This morning I gave Huffman a letter to give to Jean explaining our absence at Headquarters, and apparently Lisa was with her when she received it and read it too, and in the explanation I mentioned your nausea and more so she found out... I'm sorry, I know you wanted to wait for the third month to tell her, but they're not going to say anything until you decide.

— Oh, no problem, and I think it's a nice detail that she sent us the tea recipes... I hope they work – Albedo says before continuing to drink his tea – I just hope that Huffman wasn't too curious and had read it .

— I don't think so, so calm down, okay? – Kae says with a smile, approaching to leave a kiss on the blonde's forehead.

After finishing drinking their teas, Kaeya went back to cooking and increased a little the portion of what he was preparing in case Albedo felt a little better, which he did, since after half an hour Albedo appeared in the kitchen hugging him from behind, feeling a little better to walk around the house.

— I guess you feel a little better now, don't you? – Kaeya asks, placing the hand that he wasn't using to stir the soft soup that he was preparing on one of Albedo's arms that hugged him from behind, leaving caresses on it, while he heard a small "Mhm" of affirmation to his question. - I'm glad, do you think you can eat a little, starlight?

Albedo nods silently again and after a while they sit down to eat, Albedo receiving a smaller portion than Kaeya's since they didn't want him to eat anything that was too much or too heavy, so as not to provoke his stomach, which had apparently calmed down a bit.

After finally finishing his dishes, Kaeya was watching his husband attentively, as if he were waiting to see if he felt bad or not. Albedo, when he noticed the other's gaze resting on him, smiled and assured him that he felt fine for now.

The man with the patch went to the kitchen to put down the dirty dishes before going with Albedo to the sofa to snuggle together for a while, before Albedo noticed a small white bag on the coffee table in the living room.

— What is this bag, Kae? – Albedo asked curiously, reaching up to take the bag in his hands.

— Ooh, I really don't know, Lisa and Jean brought it over saying it was a little detail of their part, and they told me to open it with you, so I really don't know what's inside.

Albedo nods at his husband's explanation and proceeds to remove the contents of the bag from inside, freezing and being left with his mouth in the shape of an "o" when discovering what was inside.

Tiny white baby shoes were in his hands.

— I can't believe it, the baby's first gift! – Kaeya says smiling excitedly, taking one of the little shoes in his hands with curiosity – I can't believe they're so tiny, are their little feet really going to be this small? – Kaeya asked with surprise, looking completely dumbfounded at the little white shoe made of wool.

— Honey....? – After a few minutes of emotion, Kaeya notices Albedo's silence, and turns his attention from the little shoe to his husband, freezing at the image he had in front of him.

Albedo was completely silent, looking at the shoe in his hand with moist eyes full of tears, threatening to fall at any moment.

— Prince? Are you okay?

— T-they really are small... – Albedo finally says, with a slightly cracked voice but with a small smile on his face — I-I... I'm sorry, I really don't want to cry, I don't know what's wrong with me, I was all day exhausted by this nausea, that I forgot for a moment the reason for all this.... We are going to have a baby - He says this time looking at Kaeya with a smile and unable to avoid some of those treacherous tears allegedly caused by his hormones. – I can't believe it's going to be so tiny...

Kaeya couldn't help but feel a jumble of emotions in his chest seeing his beloved look at him like that, smiling so beautifully, with his precious little face full of tears but with a look full of love, hus heart really wouldn't survive these nine months (six and a half now) if Albedo continued to react like this.

— Yes, starlight... I also can't believe that we're going to have a baby this tiny – Kaeya says softly, fearing that if he spoke louder, his voice would crack at the image in front of him, so he proceed to hug his husband by his shoulders, letting him lay his head on his chest and leaving a sweet kiss on it, and then carefully wipe the tears from his face.

— We should think about where to keep this, and the next ones.... It's likely that they'll give us more things and in time we'll have to buy them clothes – Albedo says snuggling up to his husband's chest, still staring in love at the little shoes

— Mhm, we should start thinking about making their room in a few months, do you have any idea for the color or something?

Kaeya received no response, and when he moved slightly to look at his husband, he had fallen asleep on his chest, finally defeated by the exhaustion of all everything that had happened during the day.

Kaeya sighed with a smile, looking tenderly at his husband before carefully putting the little shoes back in their bag and picking up Albedo and carrying him to bed, hoping he could rest in peace for the rest of the night and without having to wake up with that annoying nausea again.
