Work Text:
- You were a guard at the Little Palace.
- Genya crushed on you pretty much at the first sight, and the same thing happened to you with her.
- There was really visible mutual pining for a long time, but neither of you made a move on it.
- Mostly because you weren't sure how your positions would be affected if you started a relationship.
- You also didn't know if your feelings were reciprocated.
- (Because you're two lovesick idiots who are sure their feelings makes you see something that isn't really there)
- Also because you aren't a Grisha - would you truly be happy if you wouldn't be able to grow old together?
- You knew you would be happy, it's just your mind trying to stop yourself from falling so you wouldn't be disappointed when she'd reject you or finds someone else.
- But against everything you had assumed, you actually did end up kissing (or more like making out) at the staircase after a party and you were ordered in walking Genya back to her quarters.
- Your boss probably tested you.
- Genya was walking on clouds after that, and she was more cheerful than usual.
- Everyone knew what had happened upon seeing her, even though you didn't actually hang out while working or anything.
- You had already broken your guard duty when you made out with Genya at the staircase while working, so you didn't want to push it.
- But you couldn't stop smiling at each other when you passed on the hallways - years of mutual pining just burst out like that.
- But outside from work, you spent time together by taking walks.
- You also gave her a lot of flowers and said that "they reflect her beauty".
- There wasn't an awfully lot of romantic stuff to do there, but just being with each other felt enough.
- And some day, you would leave the Palace together and start a life of your own.
- It would take time, but she was worth waiting for.
