Work Text:
Hoseok’s been working all morning, been sitting in front of the computer clomping away at the keys while Jungkook’s been lazing about his apartment, keeping him company; although it’s more like he’s the one who needs the company, it’s so lonely at his own apartment with Jimin and Taehyung gone for the holidays. Seokjin and Namjoon are at work and never let him keep their couch warm without anyone to guard the refrigerator.
Five years later and they still talk about that night he accidently took a puff of pot he drunkenly thought was a clove cigarette and ate everything in the kitchen including the Namjoon’s dog treats.
Are you insane? We are going to the hospital to get your stomach pumped! Aish, if those dog treats don’t kill you, I will, you dumb fuck!” Seokjin screeched at the top of his lungs then beat Namjoon out the door, hauling a green tinted Jungkook behind him. “This is your fault! That damn dog doesn’t even live here, why the hell do we keep that shit on the kitchen counter?”
Jungkook glances over at the table where Hoseok’s set up a makeshift station for himself so he doesn’t have to stay in the office and leave Jungkook alone, which of course he’d do that for him because is the best.
The best and his favorite.
Jungkook gets to his feet and heads over to Hoseok. His shoulders are straight and tensed up when Jungkook places his hand on them. “Relax,” he chuckles softly and feels Hoseok soften as soon as he starts gently massaging at them in careful, circular motions. He hums softly for a few moments until it feels like Hoseok is relaxed under his fingertips. Jungkook glances briefly at the screen and then slides his fingers up along the back column of Hoseok’s neck.
Hoseok makes a very soft, pleasant noise behind his lips and as soon as pulls away he huffs adorably.
Jungkook notices how long Hoseok has let his hair grow out. Since he’s known his Hyung he’s always kept it short, not letting it get longer than eye level, short, clean cut. It’s long enough to brush his shoulders now, Hoseok started letting it grow out after he broke up with his last boyfriend, almost 6 months ago.
It was hard on all of them, their sunshine so sad for so long. It was especially heavy on Jungkook’s heart. He hated the guy, thought he didn’t deserve someone as special and wonderful as his Hyung but Hoseok seemed to be happy with him, until he wasn’t. Ever since Hoseok has changed ever so slightly, including his hair.
"You have beautiful hair," Jungkook murmurs as he rolls a soft wisp in-between his forefinger and thumb.
Hoseok looks up from his laptop and smiles at him magnanimously. "Thank you, Baby, I'm glad you like it," he replies and turns back down to his work.
Jungkook sighs and lowers his head down to Hoseok's shoulder, watching as he fiddles with this keyboard. "Whatcha doin?" he asks curiously, hand reaching out and taking another lock of hair, twirling it around his fingers
Hoseok types a few words onto the screen and licks his lips as he thinks about what he should do next. "I'm… um, I'm typing up something for Namjoon. He wanted me to do this thing for him," he answers distractedly.
Jungkook looks at the strand of hair in his fingers and nods, bringing it to his nose and taking a deep whiff. He smiles as he pulls away and grabs another lock, doing the same with it.
Hoseok rubs his ear against his shoulder as Jungkook drops some more hair, a small tickle rising in the sensitive skin. "Jungkook-ah," he smiles as he continues typing Namjoon's resume.
"Yes, Hyung?" he asks as he turns to the screen again, full hand slipping into Hoseok's hair.
Jungkook feels him shudder and smiles to himself.
Hoseok turns his eyes from the laptop and looks at him. "What are you doing?" he asks, eyes closing instinctively as Jungkook's hand brushes through the wavy locks. He must have air dried it, Hoseok has a cute natural curl which he tends to hide with snap backs and beanies. It makes his delicate features even sweeter to look at when he’s got little curly cue pig tails around the edges of his hair.
Jungkook's lips curve in a grin as he lets his nails scratch gently against Hoseok's scalp. He shrugs and moves closer into Hoseok's body for better access. "Nothing. I'm just, you know," he pulls his hand out only to return it again, "Just, running my hand through your hair, Hyung, is that ok?" he mumbles as his eyes transfix to the motions of his fingers weaving in and out of the chocolate locks. "Pretty," he whispers more to himself than anyone else.
Hoseok's lips twitch as he turns back to the computer. "Of course it is, Jungkookie," he responds leaning back in his seat and pulls the laptop forward just a little to reach the keys easier. “Don’t you have anything else to do? You must be so bored.”
Jungkook shakes his head and this time moves his whole face into the mane, inhaling deeply, the fresh scent of coconut shampoo filling his every sense. Jungkook pulls out as his eyes open with fluttering lashes.
"You changed your shampoo," he states matter-of-factly.
Hoseok nods and presses enter, checking out his work. "Yeah, Jimin told me I should switch up my shampoo every few months, but he could just be trying to get me to buy more merch from the salon," he replies and clicks to see the page in full view. He smiles in satisfaction and moves the cursor to the print button, giving the black pad a soft tap, hearing the wireless printer start up in the office down the hall.
Jungkook finally lets go of Hoseok's hair and moves his fingers to the back of his neck, fingers feeling for the fine little hairs that hide behind the long locks. "Oh," he answers as he absentmindedly starts brushing his hands along the warm skin.
Hoseok rolls his shoulders, Jungkook's hand not skipping a beat. "Why? You don't like the smell?" he questions curiously as his eyes close against the rhythm of Jungkook's caress. “It’s damn expensive so it better smell good.”
Jungkook shakes his head. "No, it smells good," he replies. "I liked the vanilla better, but this smells good too," he speaks softly. “You always smell good.”
Hoseok's lips curve. "I'm glad you approve," he sighs and opens his eyes slowly. "So, what are you doing for the rest of the day?" he asks. Jungkook tugs a little too hard on his hair which causes Hoseok to wince carefully in pain. "Ow, Jungkook-ah," he hisses. Jungkook frowns and retracts his hand, wringing his fingers with each other slowly.
"Sorry," he apologizes, eyes down.
Hoseok huffs with a laugh. "It’s ok, didn’t hurt too much," he reassures and reaches behind the chair and pats his leg comfortingly. “Just be a little more careful, ok?”
Jungkook nods his head and grabs Hoseok's shoulders, turning him around and finds curious eyes looking up at him. Jungkook frowns as he climbs on his lap, Hoseok lets out a little “oof” at his heft but Jungkook feels terrible that he may have caused Hoseok pain in any way, big or small. "I'm sorry, Hyung," he repeats and rocks the chair back side to side, holding on to him as he buries his nose right at Hoseok’s hairline behind his ear.
The world is so much more tolerable when he’s sitting and being so close to Hoseok.
Hoseok shakes under him but wraps his arms around Jungkook’s back, holding him. “Don’t apologize, Kook, Hyung isn’t mad.”
Jungkook knows Hoseok isn’t angry with him, but now he’s comfortable and if Hoseok is going to let him hang out on his lap, he’s going to run with it. The problem arises when he accidently breathes in too loud.
"Are you sniffing my hair?" he questions amused as he steadies the chair into a stop. Jungkook's face colors as he pulls back slightly away from Hoseok, hands uncurling from Hoseok’s shirt and falling to his thighs.
"I--I was just--just you know," he shrugs, embarrassed.
"You've got a thing for my hair?" he asks with a smile. "Should I be jealous?" he questions, poking Jungkook in the ribs teasingly. Jungkook jerks and moves further away. Hoseok moves to do it again.
"Hyung, stop!" he squeals and slaps Hoseok's hand away like a bug. "I was just smelling it," he blushes deeper. "You know, getting used to it," he replies.
"Oh," Hoseok nods with that same knowing smirk. "Okay," he chuckles and reaches around Jungkook and flips the laptop shut, removing his glasses with a yawn. "So, you never answered my question," he says while he starts tugging at some of the loose strings hanging off his ripped jeans. Jungkook watches him tug a little too hard and unravel the threads covering his knees. “Oh shit,” Hoseok croaks.
“Hyung, these were expensive!” Jungkook complains looking at the gaping hole in his knee.
Hoseok huffs. “Oops, sorry, Jungkookie, I will replace them,” he begins to gather all the threads in the palm of his hand and pats Jungkook on the butt to get him off his lap.
He grumbles, both for his jeans and having to get off Hoseok. “You don’t need to replace them, they look fine,” he frowns looking down. It really doesn’t look that bad and matches the other fashion rips and tears. No one could probably tell the alteration was even made. Jungkook's eyes follow Hoseok into the kitchen to throw away the mess and in the meantime Jungkook decides to take a seat on the couch, kicking his feet up on the coffee table while he scrolls through the Ghibli movies.
Hoseok is making some noise, opening and closing cup boards, the refrigerator. He sounds like he’s just in there making noise, moving about irritably. "What are you doing today?" he asks for the third time.
"Oh, um-" Jungkook bites at his lips, pursing them together in contemplation, he really wouldn’t mind sitting on the couch all day with Hoseok’s hair tangled between his fingers or really just being tangled around Hoseok in general. "Well, nothing I guess," he shrugs after a moment, eyes traveling from the screen toward the noise coming from the kitchen. "I'm just you know-" he set the controller on his lap, "you know, just--just hangout here if that’s ok, Hyung.”
“You don’t have to ask to hang out here, Jungkook-ah,” Hoseok says loudly over the rush of water from the kitchen sink. “I love your company, don’t you know that?”
Jungkook knows he’s blushing when his cheeks feel warm.
“You hungry? There’s not much here,” Hoseok pops out for a moment. “We can order something, Hyung will pay.”
Jungkook smiles and nods.
“Come find something, the menus are in basket on top of the fridge and the mandu shoppe menu is on the side of the fridge,” Hoseok’s voice calls out.
Jungkook finds him washing the kettle and the rest of the dishes left from what looks like breakfast. “Feel like anything in particular?” he asks. He always asks because he knows he is happy to eat anything. He has yet to come across a meal he will refuse so if there is a preference, he’ll happily go along, especially when he’s not paying.
Hoseok shakes his head, the steam from the hot water rolling up along his arms. “No, nothing in particular, you choose but order a little more. Namjoon and Seokjin Hyung are coming for dinner later.”
“Great,” Jungkook grins and hops on the countertop as he starts reviewing the menus. “Can we order from two places?” he wonders out loud, he loves fried chicken and the place down the street from Hoseok’s is one of the best ones but he also feels like cold noodles.
“Get whatever you want, Baby, I’m not picky,” Hoseok slides in beside him as he opens the cupboard and puts a few dishes away. He pats his thigh as he moves back to the sink and starts scrubbing the basin, followed by the counters.
Jungkook looks up from the menus and hops down, reaching out and grabbing a hold of Hoseok’s wrist. “Hyung, stop,” he says, “go sit down, you never stop,” he offers a smile and shoves Hoseok towards the little table in the dining area. “I’ll finish cleaning up and you can just relax.” When Hoseok makes no indication of moving Jungkook rolls his eyes and physically walks him back into the living room, sets him down on the couch and scrunches a fluffy blanket around him so tight he can hardly move, all the while making little unhappy noises. “All you’re doing is being adorable, Hyung,” Jungkook scrunches his nose in a smile at Hoseok’s pout. “Don’t move, I’ll be right back.”
It really only takes a couple minutes to finish up what Hoseok started, happy to do so, he works so hard at everything, go go go, never a moment to just sit and relax. When he returns from the kitchen Jungkook finds Hoseok asleep, breathing slow and deep, just shy of gentle snoring. Jungkook grins and grabs the remote as he takes a seat, hand falling to Hoseok’s hip as he settles in and waits for the food.
Jungkook finds himself waking with a sleeping Hoseok nestled against his chest, the blanket thrown over both of them. He breathes in a mixture of delicious food and the fresh scent of Hoseok’s fabric softener. There are soft voices coming from the kitchen.
Jungkook glances at his watch, it’s been a couple hours, how did he not hear the food delivery or the others come in.
“Ah, you’re awake,” Seokjin smiles, he’s got takeout boxes in his hands as he walks towards the table. “You two look very cute and comfortable,” he motions towards Hoseok who’s still sleeping on his chest.
“We are always cute,” Hoseok speaks past a yawn. “Right, Baby?”
Jungkook finds him smiling with his eyes closed and holds him closer, giving him a tight squish that pulls the cutest squeak from his sleepy pout. “That’s right, Hyung.”
“Cute or not, wash up and come and eat.”
Hoseok sighs as he curls his ankle around Jungkook’s leg. “I’m sorry, I think my body has a mind of its own when I’m sleeping,” he leans in and presses a kiss to his shoulder, “hope that’s ok.”
“You know it is. Your body can do anything it wants to me. Don’t you know that?” he reminds him with a grin.
There’s always been a playful banter between all of them, their friends group, even with two serious relationships amongst them. With Jungkook being the youngest they’ve always showered him with the kind of affection that keeps him overjoyed about finding this new family.
Hoseok smiles, eyes lit up and bright, to Jungkook they will never stop sparkling.
“Aish, Kookie, it’s not nice to play with Hyung’s heart like that,” Hoseok mumbles and ducks into the warm nook of Jungkook’s shoulder. It’s the perfect opportunity to get his fingers back in that wild mane of his. Jungkook can feel the gentle little purr thrumbling against his chest.
He’s the prettiest when shy and warm, always has been since the beginning and now with the new curls and length to his hair, Hoseok is the kind of drop dead gorgeous that keeps him up at night.
“Seriously,” Namjoon calls out annoyed, “we have no problem eating all this food by ourselves! And if we wanted to eat by ourselves, we would have eaten at home. Come on and eat with us.”
Hoseok sighs and pats him on the belly. “Come on, Jungkook, I am hungry and I’ll be really unhappy if you ordered the food, I paid for it and neither of us get one bite.”
“Well we can’t let that happen, can we?” Jungkook chuckles and helps him sit up, his fingers sliding out of Hoseok’s hair, down his neck and he watches the way his Hyung stretches; the arch of his back and delicate arms in the air as he yawns. “Pretty, Hyung,” he thinks he says in head but when Hoseok turns to him with a snap and just looks and smiles he’s pretty sure there was a voice behind that thought.
“Stop,” he smacks him and finally removes himself completely and hauls Jungkook up and off the couch.
Namjoon and Seokjin, stay long enough to watch a movie and they end their night outside on the patio drinking beers snuggled together enjoying the cold winter breeze. They say their goodbyes with kisses and hugs and plans for the weekend when Jimin and Taehyung are back in town.
“Jungkook, be careful on your way home, ok? Call hyung if you need too, we’ll pick you up and drive you home,” Namjoon offers as he kisses the top of Jungkook’s head and shakes his strong, comforting hand through his hair. They don’t live too far, a couple blocks down in the newer development.
His heart swells as he smiles and nods.
“Hey! I can protect him!” Hoseok cries supremely offended as he throws the empty beer bottles away.
They all cackle, laughing harder when he stomps into view even more annoyed, his heart lips pouted down in annoyance.
“Of course you can, Hoseokie,” Seokjin shoots over some finger guns before he curls his arm around Namjoon’s waist. “Let’s go, Joon. Good night, guys!” he calls out with a wave and forces them out the of the apartment, otherwise they would never leave.
Hoseok locks the door behind them and heaves a sigh as he turns and looks over at Jungkook, hands on his hips. “You’ve been here all day, Kook, tired of me yet?” he asks, turning a little shy smile at him.
Jungkook sits on the couch with a sigh. “Will never get tired of you, Hyung,” he leans his head back and closes his eyes; he may have had two beers too much. “I told you a million times, you should just let me live here with you.”
Without a response Hoseok walks over, sits down beside him, even with his eyes closed Jungkook tracks Hoseok’s movements.
“I could get a fold away bed, pay half the rent and I’ll be here when you come home from work.” He keeps talking just because his mouth doesn’t want to stop and if it does, he may do something like kiss him. He really wants to kiss him though. “I could take care of you.”
“Jungkook-ah,” Hoseok sound like he’s swallowed glass.
He opens his eyes and looks over to find big, beautiful chocolate eyes glittering again. Hoseok’s hair is falling over his eyes, brushing along his neck, so tempting to leave alone. Hoseok gasps when his hand slides in and runs through his hair. “I would really love to be able to do that for you, Hyung.”
Hoseok sighs, smiles and it’s a little sad. “He’s still here. Sometimes I wake up feeling him and I don’t want to burden anyone, let alone you wit-”
Jungkook hates when Hoseok brings him up, it happens every so often, especially when they drink, especially when they’re alone just the two of them and he knows he can speak freely. After being with someone for years, 6 months is not that long to get over it. “You’re not a burden,” he moves in an inch.
His smiles wobbles for a second. “Do you want to stay tonight?” he asks, turning his head and looking over at him, his lashes a little damp. “You can run your fingers through my hair,” he smiles.
“Hyung, you don’t ever have to ask,” Jungkook moves in another inch, can already feel the warmth of his skin and nods. “Don’t you know that?”
