Summary:

So here Ruby stood with her head lowered with the feeling of her emotions. Then she felt something worm it's way into the back of her mind. It was weak but the familiar pack bond. The taste of cinnamon and the scent of fresh morning dew. Tyler...

'Ruby...' came the gravely voice of Tyler through her mind, 'Where are you?'

Ruby hesitated before picturing the sign Welcome to Wolf Lake. There was the sense of elation following her revelation. She had the distinct sense that he was rushing towards her.

Work Text:

"talking"
'pack bond'

...

Ruby paced outside the town of Wolf Lake. It had been over a decade since she last stepped foot in the town. In that time she had seen different parts of the country and met all sorts of humans. Some were good. Many weren't. One that had been good to hear was John Kanin.

No matter how much time she spent with him, Ruby couldn't truly love him. That had come to head when he proposed two weeks ago. He loved her but she couldn't reciprocate. She didn't feel the same kind of love she had felt for Tyler. A fondness for John. Yes. But actual love no.

Unable to tell him she ran off disappearing back into obscurity. For a short time she tried to stay away from Wolf Lake. It lasted for a short while. A town here. A city there. The pull on her heart eventually was too much.

Which was how she ended up here. Just outside of the town where the others were. Hiding her true self for so long has dulled her extra senses. She could faintly smell the scents of the other wolves. Unfortunately she couldn't tell who was who. On the edge of her hearing she could hear cars on the freeway.

Nervously she tapped a pattern on the outside of her pants leg. She could leave and disappear back into the obscurity of the humans. No she couldn't. She was deluding herself and she knew it.

It didn't take her long to see him coming through the forest. His light grey pelt was a stark contrast to the leaves around him. Panting hard he approached her warily. Almost as if he thought she might attack him. Ruby wouldn't she was tired in a bone deep way that few could understand.

"Tyler," she whispered exhausted.

'Ruby, you are here,' he returned.

She could sense his elation vaguely. There was a question in the bond that wasn't coming from Tyler. It was coming from the other members they were cautiously curiosity.

Ruby slowly bent so that she was eye level with the golden eyes. She hoarsely whispered, "I'm back."

Still wary of him the wolf that was Tyler came forward. She wrapped her arms around his neck and tried to open the connection between them. It was slow to react to her intentions but a light glow came to her eyes.
