Work Text:
Steve sat at his counter the one day out of the year that he didn’t go for a run at his usual time. He had a picture frame face down in front of him as he sipped his whiskey.
It was his favorite brand, and he only ever drank it on this day. He set the picture up in front of him and hummed. “It’s been seventeen years. Since I lost you two. I can’t believe it. Sometimes I don’t know how to get out of bed.”
He downed the rest of his drink and set the glass aside. “Most people here don’t know who I am. Which is good. I retired a year later.”
Steve sighed as he stood up heading to the sink. “I don’t know why I do this. It’s gotten easier but today still sucks.” He said setting the glass down as there was a knock on the door.
“Yes, Mrs. Jones I will stop by later to take Priscilla on her walk.” He said as he answered the door thinking it was his neighbor wanting to make sure her dog got a walk in.
Instead, it was a kid who looked to be about sixteen or seventeen. “Uh…who are you?”
The kid looked straight at his chest before looking up at his face. “Uh…hi…my name is uh…Peter. You uh…you’re Steve Rogers, aren’t you?”
Steve looked at him and blinked as he raised an eyebrow. “How do you know that name kid? Everyone around here knows me as Steven Grant. You’re not from around here, are you?”
“Uh…no. I’m not. I uh…have reason to believe we’re related.” The kid said looking down at his feet. “May I come in?”
“I think you got the wrong person kid. I don’t have any family left.”
“I know it’s hard to believe and I will explain everything I can if you let me in so we can talk.” He said gesturing to the room behind him.
Steve sighed running a hand over his face as he saw someone walking up towards his door. “Alright, come on in. Have a seat on the couch.” He said letting the boy in.
“Oh… Young man would you mind taking Priscilla for a walk this afternoon. I have a meeting this afternoon and I won’t be able to make it.”
Steve nodded and smiled. “Of course, Mrs. Jones it will be my pleasure let me know how your appointment goes this morning yeah?”
“Oh, thank you dear. Yes of course. I’ll see you later.” She said waving to him before heading back down to the car.
“A neighbor?” The kid asked as Steve stepped back into the house closing the door behind him.
“Yeah, she lives a few houses down.” He said nodding as he crossed his arms over his chest. “So, uh…who are you?”
“I’m Peter.” He said as he continued to look around the living room.
“Right, you said that but uh…how did you find me?” He asked as he watched him brows furrowed.
“I hacked into S.H.I.E.L.D’s data base and found where you were last then followed speculated sightings of you.” He said shrugging. “It’s taken me a few months, but I finally found you.”
“You’re with S.H.I.E.L.D?” Steve asked as he raised an eyebrow moving closer to an end table.
“No not exactly.” He said as he turned to look at him. “Do you have anything to eat? I’m starving.”
“I have eggs and bacon in the kitchen. You can eat after you tell me why you’re here.”
“I came to look for you.” He said as he headed towards the kitchen. “I wanted to meet you.”
“Okay…wait a minute.” Steve said as he followed him into the kitchen. “How did an average sixteen-year-old kid hack into S.H.I.E.L.D’s database and find out where I am. Better yet why?”
“I’m not an average sixteen-year-old kid. I have an IQ of two-fifty and my dad handles a lot of their security. I know how to get around his protocols without leaving a trace.”
“Okay, why did you want to find me?” He said prepared to defend himself if needed though he figured this kid wasn’t planning on hurting him. “Does your dad know you’re here?”
“No.” He said moving to sit at the counter where Steve hastily removed the photo. “Dad things I’m camping with my friends.”
“He let a sixteen-year-old go camping with his friends by himself?” He asked raising an eyebrow.
“He knows I can take care of myself.” He said shrugging as his stomach grumbled. “Can I have some food now?”
Steve looked at him and nodded. “How do you like your eggs?” He asked going to the fridge.
“Scrambled please.” He said as he smiled over at him.
“Alright.” He said nodding as he started to make the eggs. “So, I noticed you didn’t give me a last name.”
“Right.” He said nodding as he looked at his hands. “I don’t want you to freak out.”
“Why would I freak out?” He asked as he looked over at him.
Peter didn’t say anything for a moment before he stood up. “Do you have some orange juice or something?”
Steve hummed before answering. “Yeah. It’s in the fridge.” He said pointing towards it.
“Thanks.” He said as he grabbed the juice and went looking for the glasses.
“Here.” Steve said as he opened a cabinet and pulled out a glass. “I don’t normally have people over.”
Peter nodded as he took the glass and smiled. “It’s alright. I know you came out here to get away from everything.”
“How do you know that?” He asked tilting his head as he plated the eggs for both of them. “I can whip up some bacon.”
“No thank you. The eggs are great.” He said smiling as he sat down taking the plate offered to him.
“How long does your dad expect you to be camping?” he asked sitting across from him.
“A week.” He said taking a mouth full of eggs. “Gives me time to convince you come back with me.”
Steve stopped what he was doing and looked at him. “You’re not with S.H.I.E.L.D yet you’re trying to get me to come back after hacking into their database. So, tell me why I should go back with you to New York.”
Peter looked at him wide eyed as he cleared his throat after swallowing the bite of food he had. “Uh…New York? No one said anything about New York.”
“Kid, I’ve been alive for a hundred and six years. I grew up in Brooklyn. I know a Queen’s accent when I hear one. Now, why do you want me to come back to New York. If you read my file which I’m assuming you, did you know why I won’t go back.”
Peter looked at him sheepishly for a moment before he sighed. “I need your help to help my dad.”
“Why would your dad need my help? Who is your dad by the way?” He asked tilting his head.
They stared at each other for a few minutes before Peter took a deep breath. “His name is Tony Stark and I know you’re my dad.”
Steve froze as he gripped the counter hearing what he said. “No.” He said shaking his head as he stood up. “Not possible. I never had any children with Tony, and I damn well know he didn’t have any.” He said as he picked up the plates.
“See this is why I didn’t tell you at first and I know it’s hard to understand but I- “
“No, Kid. It’s not possible. I was on a mission that went south while Tony…” He stopped as he took a breath. “There’ a hotel not that far from here that you can stay at until you can get home.”
“Look, I know this is crazy, but I came all the way out here to tell you the truth.” He said as he watched him. “You need to come home.”
“This is my home. Has been for the last fifteen years.” He said as he looked at Peter. “I don’t know who told you I could be your father but it’s not possible.”
Peter ran a hand through his hair. “You’re as stubborn as dad said you were.” He said rolling his eyes. “Look I have my birth certificate in dad’s handwriting. You’ll recognize it. I have your dog tags that dad got after your mission. I wanted to prove that you were alive so we could be a family.”
Steve looked at him shocked at the outburst and the last sentence. “What do you mean Prove that I was alive?” He asked raising an eyebrow.
“When I was born you were off on that mission that went south like you said. I don’t know what happened, but dad was told that you died.”
“As you can see, I didn’t die. S.H.I.E.L.D probably had a hand in this. A few months after that mission when I heard Tony had died along with our…son…I went on a deep cover mission. When that ended, I got out.”
“That’s what you did but what we were told was that you died on that mission. All Dad got was your dog tags. He didn’t even know what happened on the mission.”
“The only dog tags I had were the ones I had when I served. I didn’t have any for that mission.” He said as he furrowed his brows. “This doesn’t make sense.”
“My life hasn’t made sense. I’ve been told a million stories about you. How you were the greatest hero the world had ever seen. How you got killed in battle by a wound that makes no sense compared to everything else.” Peter said running a hand over his face.
Steve stepped closer to him putting a hand on his shoulder puling him into a hug. “Shh. It’s alright.” He said softly as Peter gripped his shirt tears in his eyes.
He recognized the signs of panic attacks that he himself had a few times along with Tony. The way he was agitated and picking at his fingers not making eye contact. His chest heaving as if he couldn’t catch his breath.
“Deep breath kid. Deep breath.” He said softly as Peter pressed his face into his chest taking a few deep breaths. “There you go.” He said rubbing his back softly.
After a few minutes Peter pulled back wiping at his face as he sniffled. “I uh… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean too get your shirt all wet.” He said looking away.
Steve gently squeezed his shoulder. “Don’t worry about it. Not the first time I’ve had to bring someone don from a panic attack.”
“Yeah, dad told me. You both used to have them would comfort each other in the night. Uncle Bucky’s been a big help.”
Steve looked at him for a moment and let out a breath. “You look so much like him.” He said as he looked at his features. “You got his eyes.”
“So…you believe me?” He asked tentatively.
“I don’t not believe you, but I can’t accept it right off the bat. I need hard proof.” He explained lightly.
Peter nodded as he sniffled a little. “Yeah, yeah, of course that’s understandable. I uh…I have pictures back at the hotel. I wasn’t sure when I was going to see you.”
Steve nodded as he looked at the time. “I have to take the dog on a walk. Do you want to come with me?”
Peter looked at him and nodded. “Yeah, I would like that. What type of dog is it?” He asked as Steve grabbed his things and headed to his door.
“What kind of dog do you think she’d have?” He asked as they headed out.
“I’d say like a poodle or chihuahua or some other type of small dog.” He said following him.
Steve chuckled a little and nodded. “Yeah, that would make sense. I thought the same thing.” He said looking to Peter. “You have any pets?”
“Spiders.” He said as he looked around the place. “It’s really pretty here.”
“Your dad lets you keep spiders as a pet?” He asked furrowing his brow as they walked up to the house.
“It was either that or a snake.” He said shrugging. “I didn’t see any pets at your place. Dad always said you wanted a dog.”
“I never thought it was right to get one. When I moved here, I wasn’t in the best head space.” He said as he found the spare key and unlocked the door. “Priscilla, where are you?” He asked looking around before they heard nails on the hard wood floor.
Steve knelt down as he smiled at the German Shepard rushed over to him. He chuckled a little scratching behind her ears as she licked his face.
“She had a German Shepard?” He asked tilting his head.
Steve nodded as he grabbed the collar and leash hooking it around the dog. “Yeah, after her husband died a few years ago she was lonely, so she got a dog. Tried a smaller dog for a little bit but could never see it.”
Peter nodded as Priscilla came up to sniff him gently. He looked to Steve who nodded before holding his hand out to the dog. She sniffed his hand for a moment before licking it.
“She likes you.” He said patting her head. “Come on girl. It’s time for you walk.” He said as he headed out of the door.
They walked into town with Steve telling Peter about his life in this small town of Willow Creek and introducing him to a few people along the way.
They made it to the hotel and Steve walked inside looking at Steve as he came in as well. “Uh…are you sure you should bring her in here?”
“It’s alright, they have a pet room. I’ll put her in there while you go get the pictures.” Steve said chuckling as the lady at the front desk looked up.
“Hello, Mr. Grant. It’s nice to see you again. My mom wanted me to invite you over this weekend. She’s having a small party.” The blonde said as Priscilla walked over to her happily.
Steve chuckled a little and rolled his eyes as he nodded to her. “Thank you for the invite, Jess. I assume you’ve met this kid.” He said nodding towards Peter.
“I certainly have. Came in early this morning.” She said nodding to him. “Good day Mr. Parker.”
He looked at him and raised an eyebrow. “Parker huh?”
“Long story.” He said as he headed upstairs. “I’ll be right back. If you uh…want too you can come up.”
Steve looked at him before nodding. “I’ll meet you up there, what’s the room number?”
“Two-twenty-five.” He said smiling before heading up the stairs.
Steve nodded as he looked to Priscilla. “Come on girl, over here.” He said as he took her to the designated pet area.
“So, Steve.” Jessica said looking at him. “You never told me about the kid. What’s the story?”
“What story?” He asked hanging up the dogs collar and leash.
“There’s two options here, one he’s a brother that you never wanted us to know about. Or the more likely conclusion he’s your kid?”
He blinked at her for a moment before shaking his head. “You know if you wanted to you could leave and become a reporter.”
“I know. I don’t want too. So, what’s the story?”
“I don’t really know yet, but that second theory is looking more and more plausible.”
“What? Really? Oh my god. I can’t believe you have a kid, and you didn’t tell us.”
“I didn’t know until today alright? I’m not even sure if I believe him. But I should head up and confirm.” He said nodding to her before heading off.
Peter was pacing in his room as he pressed the phone to his here. “Uncle Bucky, calm down. I’m fine I promise. I’m in a little town called Willow Creek. Please don’t tell dad.”
“Kid, I swear you are so much like your pop’s. I don’t know what we’re going to do with you. You can’t just run off like this chasing a ghost.”
“See that’s the thing. It’s not a ghost I promise you.” He said as he looked to the door when he heard someone knock on the door.
Steve stood in the doorway that Peter had presumably left open for him. He nodded to him as Peter walked closer. “Here, just listen. Then tell me I’m chasing a ghost.”
“Kid what are you talking about?” He asked fond exasperation in his voice as he waited.
“Who is it?” Steve asked voice low so the other person wouldn’t hear.
“It’s uncle Bucky. One of my friends slipped and he found out I’m not camping.” He said nervously.
Steve looked at him for a moment eyes wide as he hadn’t talked to anyone from his life years. “Well, then maybe knowing that you’re with a parent will help.” He said as he put the phone to his ear.
“Peter Stark-Rogers I swear to everything your father stood for if you don’t answer me, I am going to come find you and drag you back.”
Steve let out a noise at the name and looked to Peter for a moment before clearing his throat. “Hey uh…Buck…long time no talk.” He said as he moved to sit down.
There was silence on the phone before Bucky spoke up. “Peter if this is some sort of sick joke you’ve gone too far.”
“No, no Buck it’s not. It’s me, it’s really me. I’m so sorry. I should’ve called or wrote or done something.”
“Stevie?” He asked disbelief in his voice as it sounded like he dropped something.
“Yeah, Buck. It’s me. God it’s good to hear your voice.” He said as he swallowed deeply.
“Where are you?” Bucky asked quickly.
“Like the kid said we’re in small town called Willow Creek. I’ve been here for over a decade. He showed up this morning.”
“Yeah, his little friend Ned screwed up the plan.” Bucky said giving a wet chuckle. “Do you mind if I come out there to see for myself? I just…I can’t believe it’s you.”
Steve let out a deep breath for a moment before nodding knowing he couldn’t see him. “Yeah, sure uh…definitely. So, it’s true? Everything’s true?”
“I’m not sure what the kid’s told you but if you’re asking if he’s your kid the answer’s yes. He’s you and Tony wrapped into one. Oh god Tony.” He said as he realized what this meant.
“Where is he can I talk to him?” He asked as he looked over to Peter holding his arm out for him.
“He’s uh…he’s not here right now. He’s on some business trip and we won’t be able to contact him.”
Steve let out a breath as he pulled Peter into his side and kissed his head. “That’s alright. I’ll uh…I’ll see him when he’s done. How long until you’re here?”
“Depending on who all hears about this probably tonight.” He said running a hand through his hair.
“Okay, there’s an open field not that far away they can land the get there. I’ll send you the coordinates.”
“Aright. God, I swear if this is a dream or some sick joke I’m going to riot.”
“I would too.” Steve said before they said their goodbyes and Peter looked at him raising an eyebrow.
“So?” He asked hopeful.
“Bucky’s coming out here with probably the rest of the team.” He said as he looked at him. “God, I can’t believe it.” He said setting the phone down as he looked at him. “Come here, let me look at you.”
Peter sat there as he looked at Steve and worried at his lip. “I can’t believe it my boy’s all grown up.” He said tears in his eyes.
“Well, I wouldn’t say all grown up. I’m only sixteen.” He said blushing slightly.
Steve chuckled a little bit as he hugged him close not wanting to let go.
They sat in his room for and talked about his life as Peter showed him pictures of everything he’d done. With as detailed as Peter was it was almost as if he’d been there himself.
Sometime later at around five o’clock Peter and Steve stood in the field waiting for the Quin jet. Steve had taken Priscilla home a few hours ago trying to work out his nerves.
He’d started piecing everything together knowing that S.H.E.I.L.D had some how concocted this whole thing so that way he could go under cover without worry that someone would come after him.
Steve was brought out of his thoughts as the jet landed and the door opened. Before it was all the way open Bucky started walking out as Peter rushed over.
Following him was Bruce, Nat, and Clint. Peter hugged them as if he hadn’t seen them in months making Steve chuckle.
He stood back as they made sure he was alright. Bucky was the first one to break away from them as he scanned the field. Their eyes met and Steve let out a breath as he watched him before he walked over towards him.
Bucky stood in front of him looking over at his face before cupping his cheek gently. “It’s you?” He asked though he knew it was.
Steve looked at him and nodded a smile on his face. “Yeah, it’s me.” He said nodding as he shook his head.
“Oh my god.” He said as he pulled him into a hug. If it were anyone else, it would probably crush them. “I can’t believe it’s really you.” He said as he pulled back and looked at him. “Where have you been the last seventeen years?”
“Right here.” He said shrugging as he looked at him. “After Tony…I threw myself into work. Went deep undercover, got out and came here.”
“After Tony what?” He asked raising an eyebrow. “What were you told?”
Steve sighed as he looked at him. “Can we not talk about that right now. I just want to hear what’s been going on since I’ve been gone.”
“We’ll do that right after you explain why you never came to visit.” Nat said arms crossed over her chest as she looked at him.
Steve looked at her before looking to Bucky as he held up his hands shaking his head. “You’re on your own.”
Steve looked at her and smiled nervously. “Hey, Nat. Long time no see.” He said before she punched him in the arm. “Next time someone tells you your husband and son are dead maybe double check that.” She said before pulling him into a hug.
Bruce and Clint came over soon after. They talked about everything that happened while he’d been away before talking about everything that brought them to this point.
Steve sighed as he ran a hand through his hair listening to Bucky as Peter sat next to him. “So, what I’ve gotten from this is that S.H.I.E.L.D told you that Tony and Peter had died on the way to hospital and then put you undercover?”
“That sounds about right. It sounds like they did something similar with you and Tony. The photos are probably doctored.” Steve said shaking his head. “I can’t believe I fell for it.”
“Steve, it’s not your fault. You had no way of knowing. You were cut off from all of us.” Clint said as he looked at him. “You couldn’t have known.”
“I should’ve looked into it. I should’ve known something wasn’t right.”
“If the pictures you got were anything like what we had. There’s no way you would’ve known.” Bruce said as he hummed. “None of us knew you were alive until now. Not even Fury.”
Steve looked at them and nodded as he leaned back a little wrapping his arm around Peter. “How many new improvements has Tony made to S.H.I.E.L.D?” He asked tilting his head.
“After we got word of your death Tony left S.H.I.E.L.D. He didn’t want to be a part of an organization that let you down.” Bucky said humming.
“Since then, S.H.I.E.L.D. had dwindled. It is not the mighty organization that we once knew. Most of us don’t even work for them anymore.”
“You don’t?” He asked titling his head as Peter shifted a little sitting up.
“No one here does. They tried recruiting me when I was thirteen and I thought I was going to have to take dad to the hospital.” Peter said chuckling a little.
“Is he alright?” Steve asked getting a little worried. “The arc reactor?” He asked looking at the other’s.
Bucky smiled a little and leaned back into the couch. “He’s fine. So is the arc reactor. What Peter was referring too was the fact that Tony had a little mishap in his workshop when he found out.”
“He may or may not have been working on a motorbike and hit his head when I told him.”
Steve blinked and chuckled a little as he shook his head. “Of course, he would. When did he start riding a motorcycle?”
Bruce chuckled a little and shook his head. “He didn’t, he’s been keeping himself busy with your old one.”
“He has?” He asked raising an eyebrow as Peter’s phone went off.
He pulled it out of his pants and furrowed his brow’s seeing MJ’s name on it. “I gotta take this.” He said as he answered getting up.
“Peter? How’s everything going?” She asked quietly. “I know you’re looking for your long-lost dad and what not but uh…how long do you think you’re going to be?”
“MJ? What’s going on?” Peter asked curiously as he furrowed his brows.
“Look, I’m sorry I had to tell him.” She said before the phone was pulled away.
“Peter Stark-Rogers if you do not tell me where you are and why no one is answering my calls you will be grounded for the foreseeable future.”
Peter froze for a moment as he heard Tony’s voice. “Hey! Dad! Uh…I can explain.”
“You better start explaining right now young man. What do you think you were doing going after a ghost?”
“Yeah, uh…abut that. We’re not…he’s not…I don’t know how to explain this. You’ll have to come see for yourself.”
“OH my god Peter tell whoever you’re with goodbye and get home now.” He said voice firm as Steve stood up and put a hand on his shoulder.
“Let me try.” He said voice quiet as he took the phone from him. He put the phone to his ear and let out a breath. “Tony don’t go too hard on the kid. He’s the only that’s seen the truth.”
There was silence as Steve spoke and for a moment, he thought the call had dropped before Tony’s voice came over the line. “Who is this?”
“I know it’s hard to understand even I don’t understand it really. But it’s me.” He said his voice soft and quiet.
“Look I don’t kno who you are or what you want but you let my son go now and I won’t have you thrown in Raft.” He said as Steve heard what sounded like him suiting up.
“I want you to come to me.” He said voice going dark and gravely. “It’s time we face each other once and for all.”
“Who are you?”
“You’ll know who I am when you get here. I’ll send you the coordinates be here in two hours.” He said before hanging up and texting him the coordinates.
They looked at him and blinked for a moment as Clint tilted his head. “Uh…did you just threaten to harm Peter?”
“No.” Steve said as he handed the kid back his phone. “I just told Tony that I wanted to see him. It shouldn’t take him long. Until then how about I make some lunch?”
They looked at him and Bruce shook his head. “If you two create another Civil War I’m choosing the kids side.” He said as he got up and headed into the kitchen.
“We’re not going to fight.” He said rolling his eyes as he followed after him.
“I think that goes for all of us.” Bucky said as they relocated to the kitchen.
Just as ordered Tony showed up two hours later landing in the back yard as he snuck up towards the back of the house.
Peter was walking out of the hall as Tony stepped into the house from the sliding door. Peter looked over and blinked.
“Good you got yourself out already.” He said keeping his voice quiet as he nodded to the door. “Are you hurt?” He asked as he looked him over.
“Dad, no. No, I’m not hurt.” He said shaking his head. “I’m fine I promise.” He said as he stopped his dad from pulling him out of the house.
Steve heard the noise and stood in the doorway as he looked at Tony. “He’s great Tony. Super smart just like his dad. Resourceful too.” He said making Tony freeze.
Peter looked between them as he cleared his throat. “Dad, I know what it looks like. I know not a lot make sense, but I told you I thought he was alive.”
Tony looked at him and swallowed thickly. “This can’t be right. You can’t be here.” He said shaking his head as the color drained from his face.
“I could say the same thing about you.” He said as he stepped closer. “Petey why don’t you give your dad and I some time to talk.”
Peter looked at the two of them before nodding as he headed back into the kitchen.
After her left the two of them stood there staring at each other. “I’m having some sort of break down. I must be dreaming or am I in a coma? Are you here to tell me it’s not my time or for us to be together?”
Steve let out a breath as he stepped closer. “Anthony Edward Stark you are not dreaming. You are not having a break down, and you are not in a coma.” He said slowly reaching out to cup his cheek.
Tony gasped as he closed his eyes and leaned into the hand as he held it with one of his. “This…isn’t possible. You’re dead. I was told you were dead.”
“So was I.” He said as he looked at him. “God, I’ve missed you.” He said a smile on his face. “I cant believe it’s been seventeen years.” He said chuckling a little with tears in his eyes.
Tony opened his eyes and looked up at him before he stepped back. “No, no, I don’t believe this. Tell me when our first date was?”
“Our actual first date or the one we told the press?” He asked tilting his head. “If it’s our actual one it was the day after Sam pulled that prank on me and I turned my room into a sauna. If it’s the press one, then that was us at your favorite Italian place.”
Tony looked at him and bit his lip. “What did we do for our one-year anniversary?”
“We went to Italy. For a month.” He said humming. “We got teased when we came back because we didn’t have many pictures of us exploring.”
“When did you propose?” He asked blinking as he watched him.
“We proposed together in the workshop accidentally.” He said smiling at the memory. “I was going to wait until that night then you proposed so I ran out and had to override J.A.R.V.I.S. to let me in when you panicked. Not my best moment.”
“What about when we found out about Peter? Or when we picked out his name?”
“You told me that we were going to have a kid by hiding my shield and tapping the test to it along with a little Captain America onesie. As for his name I was looking through a name book and you were coming up with an acronym for one of your inventions and tried to call it Peter. Before realizing the acronym wouldn’t work.”
“Then the name wouldn’t leave me for weeks after wards.” He said voice low as he looked at him. “Oh my god it is you.” He said as he rushed forward and wrapped his arms around him.
Steve grunted slightly as he pulled him close and kissed his head as he spun him around. Tony pulled back as he Steve set him down cupping his cheek as he kissed him.
They kissed for a few minutes before pulling away to breath.
The tears fell shortly after as they held each other, and both became blubbering messes.
After things had calmed down a little bit Steve introduced his friends to the people of the town. They stayed in the town of Willow Creek for a week.
In that time, they planned to take down S.H.I.E.L.D once and for all. They prepared their statements and the evidence courtesy of both Natasha and Peter.
Bucky, Clint, Bruce, and Natasha went back a few days before the Stark-Rogers family wanting to give them some time to themselves before everything went public.
Two weeks after everything was found out Steve made a public appearance for the first time in seventeen years.
He told them how he’d been told about both Peter and Tony had been killed and Tony did the same. They exposed those in S.H.I.E.L.D. that had been directly involved in it and with Fury’s help dismantled what was left.
It took years for things to go back to normal and even then, nothing was normal. There were still little off shoots of S.H.I.E.L.D that had to be dealt with.
Steve stood in the room fixing his tie as the door opened and Tony stepped into the room. “Can you help me with my tie?” he asked as he leaned on his cane.
Steve looked at him and smiled softly. “Of course.” He said as he headed over towards him. “You feel alright?”
“Yeah.” He said nodding. “I just can’t believe that you’re giving our baby away today.”
“I’m not really giving him away.” He said chuckling a little. “I’m one of his groomsmen.”
“I now but still. We’ve come along way in what feels like a few short years.” He said as he rested his hands on his chest.
Steve smiled and nodded. “We have. I’m so glad he found me. Then we wouldn’t be able to do this.” He said smiling as he kissed him gently.
Peter walked into the room and smiled. “Oh, thank god, I need your help.”
They looked at him and raised an eyebrow at his words. “What do you mean?”
“Something happened with one of MJ’s bridesmaids and now I need someone to stand in for her. Not to mention that I can’t find my cuff links and I need help with my tie.”
“I’ll help you with your tie and Dad can go talk to the girls and see what we can do about that. I’ll track down Bucky and see if he has a spare thing of cuff links.” Steve said as he walked over to his son.
“Thank you.” He said letting out a breath. “Today has to be perfect.” He said as he let Steve do his tie.
“It will be perfect. Have Pop’s tell you about our wedding day.” He said waving his hand as he headed out of the room.
“Can you?” Peter asked hopefully as he looked over at him.
“Dad hasn’t told you about it?” He asked humming as he fixed his tie. “Well, we’d planned it for six months. There were nights where nether of us got any sleep.” He said chuckling.
“It was a sore subject for dad.” Peter said as he looked in the mirror.
“That’s understandable.” He said nodding as he hummed. “So, the day of the wedding comes around. I have Bucky and Clint on my side with Thor. Tony had Rhodey and Sam and Natasha while the west of the team were there. I’m sure there are pictures somewhere.”
“Everything was ready for the wedding. We had everything planned out. Then the morning of we’re getting ready in separate rooms and Bucky comes in with this panicked look on his face. Says they can’t find Tony. They’ve been searching for him for hours by this point.”
“Wait…dad almost missed the wedding?” He asked furrowing his brows.
“No.” He said shaking his head. “Dad had gone to his workshop to get this set of cufflinks he had. Then he went to get a necklace that your Nona wore.” He said chuckling.
“So, dad was going around the tower looking for things while everyone else was looking for him?”
“Yes, not to mention our priest had an accident and therefore couldn’t perform the ceremony so we had to get someone completely different.”
“That part I do know. Uncle Clint performed the Ceremony.” He said chuckling as Bucky came into the room.
“Hey, someone said you needed cufflinks.” He said as he held them up.
“Yes, thank god.” Peter said as he hurried over. “Thank you so much.”
Bucky nodded and smiled. “I’m only the messenger those came from Tony.” He said nodding to them. Speaking of which since when did he have time to get a suit in the color scheme for MJ’s side?”
Steve looked at him and blinked shaking his head. “It’s pretty close to te color for the suits. He liked the color, so he bought one.”
“It’s a good thing he did. He’s standing in for the bridesmaids.” He said as Steve helped him put the cufflinks on.
Steve looked at them and smiled as he gently ran his finger over them. “They’re perfect.” He said as he kissed his head. “Come on, we got to get you to the alter.” He said as he ushered them out of the room.
Peter wasn’t sure about the look that Steve had when it came to the cufflinks but shrugged it off for now.
They got Peter up at the alter and lined up to walk in with Steve and Tony together.
After that the ceremony and reception went off without a hitch before they sent them on the way to their honeymoon to start their new lives together.
