“We’re coming after you Lance,” Shiro’s voice left no room for argument, but Lance had never been good at following the rules.
“You would do the same thing, wouldn’t you?” Lance’s fingers skimmed over the control panel as he spoke, brows furrowed in concentration as he tried to make heads or tails of all the buttons and switches. “If you were in my shoes, wouldn’t you have done the same thing? I know I haven’t done much in the way of proving myself, I know that my word doesn’t mean much of anything right now, but I can do this”
“We know you can, buddy” Hunk croaked, voice tense with subdued tears, “but you don’t have to, we’re a team”
“We’re a family…” Pidge added in a whisper soft enough to break his heart.
“We are,” Lance mused with a gentle smile as he lifted his head to stare out the windshield and watch the stars drift by, “and that’s exactly why I can’t let you save me”
