Work Text:
Nie Mingjue sat back in his chair, closing his eyes, and relaxed listening to his white noise maker. It’d been an exhausting day and would be a worse evening; a dinner had been planned and at least twenty people were coming, only three of which Nie Mingjue even liked.
He was letting himself have a moment of tranquility before the storm of chaos would be crashing upon him.
That was, until he heard the strums of strings, then wind, and any other type of instrument type in between.
“Jin Guangyao! Turn that off!” His roommate didn’t hear him and the music only swelled in sound. “Asshole.”
He arose from his seat and pounded on the door. It opened almost immediately, the young man always having that endearing smile on his face.
(He couldn’t decide whether punching it off for being insincere or if he should kiss it off for being… never mind that)
“Is there an issue?” He asked, his voice bitter honey.
“Yes. I’m forming a complaint right now—“
“Oh Da-Ge-“
“Turn that off! Or down! Enough so I can’t hear it!” He was given a dumbfounded look in response- he looked so genuinely confused. It made his chest do weird flips that he didn’t appreciate for the time.
“Classic music is… not to your taste? Would you prefer I change my study music?” Was it sarcasm? Genuinely being a people pleaser? A bit of both that leaked on each other to blur the lines?
“No music is to my taste. I don’t want to listen to it. Put in headphones or something.”
“You know… I don’t much like that” He pointed at the white noise machine “Would you be willing to put in headphones for that? Or turn it down so I don’t hear it?”
Oh. It was on.

Nie Huasaing stared blankly at his brother’s dorm door. It wasn’t that there was anything particular wrong with the door itself- but rather it sounded like two clashing sounds were trying to drown each other out.
But that couldn’t be right?
…
He texted his brother that he believed to be at the wrong dorm, only for the door to be swung open and he was brought inside with open arms.
Inside a “home” of absolute insanity.
“My brother! Arrived! Here! For Dinner!!” Nie Mingjue shouted and he realized that the volume wouldn’t change.
This would be a long weekend.
