Percy had three pictures on his wrist. When he was five, his mom told him that meant he had three Soulmates.
He thought that was cool.
He also thought that it was funny, seeing as how they were all birds of some kind. An owl, a dove, and an eagle.
He thought it was cool, having three birds on his wrist, and he sometimes liked to talk to them whenever he was feeling lonely or sad or something like that.
When he was twelve was a perfect example.
It was during the ride in the ‘Humane Animal Transportation’- or whatever it was called- truck.
He was whispering to the birds on his wrist after Grover had fallen asleep, and he thought Annabeth had, too, but she heard him and asked what he was doing.
“Oh, I’m just talking to my Soulmates,” he said, showing her the three Marks that she had yet to see.
She gasped and showed him her wrist.
It also had three Marks.
A trident, an eagle, and a dove.
“Woah,” they both said. Then they looked at each other and smiled.
“Truce?” Percy asked, holding out his hand.
“Truce.” Annabeth shook his hand and nodded as she agreed.

When Annabeth learned it wasn’t normal to have three Marks, she was worried, but eventually accepted that it was just another strange thing in her strange life.
Then she met Percy.
Who had beat the Minotaur with his bare hands and no training.
Who was also one of her Soulmates, as she discovered on their quest.
Which she thought was cool.
But then, years later, when Percy disappeared, she found three new demigods for the camp.
And she had suspicions about one of them.
“Hold out your arms,” she told Jason, the one who seemed to know more than he should.
He did, and what she saw was… not what she was expecting.
Twelve lines above an eagle above the letters SPQR on his right arm, and on his left…
Three Soulmarks.
A dove, an owl, and a trident.
Annabeth gasped, and at the questioning looks of both Jason and Piper, she showed them her wrist.
Their eyes widened.

Piper was so excited when she found out that she not only had one important person in her life, but three . Three people that would love her forever and ever.
An eagle, an owl, and a trident.
She was worried about Jason on the bus, when he said he didn’t recognize her.
But she showed him their Soulmarks, as proof that they were Soulmates.
Then they met Annabeth after a battle with wind spirits. They flew to a camp, and then Annabeth revealed Jason’s tattoo, or whatever it was, that Piper was sure she had never seen before, but she also gasped at his Marks. Then she revealed hers, and Piper figured that this missing ‘Percy’ guy was the trident.
Then she met Percy, after Leo fired on New Rome.
They compared Marks and yeah, he was the trident.
Which was cool, she had found all three! Now, if only Jason would wake up…

Jason was so confused when he woke up on the bus. He had asked his ‘friends’ but they didn’t really help much.
And apparently Piper was his girlfriend?
“Are you sure?” He asked.
Then she grabbed his arm, turning it around so he could see the Marks, a dove, an owl, and a trident, and she showed him hers, an eagle, an owl, and a trident.
He decided that was proof enough that he knew her.
Then the venti came, then the scary girl and the buff dude on a chariot. Then they were flying to a camp he had never been to before.
Then Annabeth had revealed that she was the owl, which meant that her missing boyfriend was probably the trident.
Then Jason and Leo and Piper went on a quest.
Then Leo built the Argo II.
Then they went to New Rome.
Then Leo fired on New Rome.
And Jason got knocked out by a brick.
Then he woke up.
He met Percy.
“So, you’re the trident?” He asked.
Percy nodded. “And you’re the eagle.” He smiled. “Y’know, I kinda think it’s funny that the three of you are all birds, but then I’m a freaking trident. Like, what’s that all about?”
Piper laughed. “That is kind of funny.”
“So uh,” Annabeth said, “where do we go from here?”
“Foursome?” Percy suggested.
Jason shrugged. “Sure.”
“Okay,” Annabeth said.
Piper smiled. “I’m okay with that.” She then proceeded to kiss all of her Soulmates.
