Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

fig faeth is a performance. Much like figerouth faeth before her, all bubbles and sunshine. Now her mask is cigarettes and ripped fishnets, but it’s a mask all the same.

figerouth faeth doesn’t have friends. She has people who like her, people who will throw her in the air and tell her fake niceties, but she doesn’t have friends.

fig faeth kisses grown men. They believe her lies and she feels worthwhile for a second because they want at least some part of her. She knows that nothing she gives them is actually true, but it’s a nice thought.

figerouth faeth doesn’t have a family. she has a lying mom, a dad who’s not a dad, and a dad who she doesn’t know. That doesn’t look like the families in her Principles of Human Services textbook.

fig erouth faeth doesn’t know who she is. She is a wood elf. She is a tiefling. She is a nice girl who makes everyone’s lives better. She is a monster who tears things apart. She is --

fig the infaethable wears a mask sometimes. She lets people believe what they want about her, but she doesn’t perform for them unless she is on that stage with gorgug, rocking on her bass guitar, and even then, she is just fig.

fig the infaethable has a couple friends. Five really close ones, gorgug, fabian, kristen, riz, and adaine, and some she is close but not too close, like the seven maidens and ragh and tracker. And they love her. They tease her mercilessly, but they pull her close and let her rant about her day. They love her without bounds and without expectation.

fig the infaethable kisses a half-phoenix. Ayda burns bright and beautiful and tells fig that she is wonderful and worth it. Ayda sees fig for who she is, and though sometimes fig forgets, and tries to smile and lie, ayda understands.

fig the infaethable has a large family. It consists of two dads, a kickass mom, and a plethora of messed-up teens, the messed-up teens’ parents on some occasions, a couple of werewolves, a manor that architecturally shouldn’t be standing, and love.

fig the infaethable is still trying to figure herself out. She tells her friends that she loves them, she lets the masks drop to the floor and crushes them with her combat boot while dancing with fabian and kristen to gorgug jamming on the drums. She lets herself be vulnerable, asking questions she’s a little embarrassed about when studying with adaine, riz, and ayda, and lets them kindly and patiently explain the answer. She curls up with her mom and jawbone and tracker on the couch and watches cheesy romcoms while texting gilear and gorthalax, letting them know about her day. She loves, and she loves, and she loves, and she is.
