Chapter Text
“Another one?” A soft voice purred.
“Mm, for tomorrow,” He replied, tucking a pale pink rose into the arrangement. He felt a pulse of energy as it slid into the water. “Two young men.”
“Oh?” The first voice perked up, interest evident in their tone.
“I think Channie is going to like them,” The second voice hummed. “They seem... sweet.”
“What are their names?”
“Seo Changbin and Yang Jeongin,” He replied. “Both are quite young but they’re very clearly in love. It’s sweet.”
“Disgusting.” The voice said but it was clear they were pleased with the knowledge.
“One of them is special.”
“Special?”
“I’m not entirely sure how, but definitely special,” He frowned as he moved some of the greens around, making the arrangement look more symmetrical. “I think I know which one it is, but because they were sitting so close together it was hard to tell.”
“Want me to stay and watch the ceremony?”
“You’re going to anyway, even if I needed you back here,” He said with a fond smile. “I wouldn’t dream of taking you away, Kitten. Especially not from Channie.”
“He misses you, you know.”
“I miss him too...” He trailed off, placing a carnation onto the table next to him. With a sigh, he turned to his companion. He reached out and ran a hand across their head, their pointed ears flicking as a purr began to rumble through their chest. “You can visit him way more often than I can.”
“Perks of being a cat.” Minho purred, butting up against Jisung’s palm.
“Exactly,” He smirked. “Are you ever planning on being human any time soon? I miss my husband.”
“Last time I was human you tried to shave me bald!” Minho jumped off the counter only to sit a few paces away. He licked his front paw, glaring at Jisung from the corner of his golden eye.
“It was supposed to be a trim!” Jisung threw his hands in the air before turning back to his flower arrangements. They would have to be delivered to the venue for the wedding before noon the next day, so he needed to finish them before he went to sleep. “You’re the one who panicked and fucked up my spell.”
“You’re the one who panicked and fucked up my spell.” Minho parroted, baring his fangs.
“Ungrateful feline-” Jisung scoffed, throwing a wilting mum at his partner. Minho hissed and arched his back before huffing, flicking his ears and jumping back onto the counter. He curled into a circle off to the side, enough to stay out of Jisung’s way but close enough to watch carefully.
“You should come help me set up tomorrow,” Minho said after a beat. “Especially if one of the grooms is... special.”
“You know what? I think I will,” Jisung gave the arrangement a once over before sliding it aside for the next one. “It’s been a while since I had any real fun.”
“You nervous?” Felix asked as he adjusted Changbin’s tie.
“Me? Nervous?”
“You're shaking.”
“Of course I’m nervous!” Changbin whined, gently hitting his forehead against his best man’s shoulder. “I’m getting married today! How could I NOT be nervous!”
“Because you and Innie have been dating for like, five years?” Felix didn’t sound phased by his friend’s dramatics. He had been taking the blunt of Changbin’s wedding anxieties for the last several months, so this was nothing new. “Because you’ve been living together for two years? Because you literally made a wedding registry ages ago and have been getting people to buy stuff for you since you moved in together? You already got return labels with both your names on them!”
“But-”
“Hyung!” Felix clapped Changbin’s cheeks with his palms, making his friend jump.
“What!”
“You’re gonna be fine,” Felix promised with a soft smile. “You love him and he loves you more than anything. You’ve basically been married for years now. This is just making it official in the eyes of the stupid law.”
“But what if something goes wrong?”
“Like what?”
“Don’t ask me that!” Changbin began to pace, running his fingers through his bangs that Hyunjin had spent a surprisingly long time quaffing nicely for the ceremony. “I could- I could trip and rip down the flowers behind the altar. I could forget my vows and embarrass us both in front of everyone. The rings could go missing. Jeongin could-he could run out on me cuz he realized I’m not good enough for him and that he could do so much better than me-”
“Hyung!” Felix shouted, slapping a hand over Changbin’s mouth. “Take a deep breath... you’re freaking out for no reason. Jeongin loves you so fucking much it’s almost embarrassing.”
“He does?”
“You’re the one who’s been dating him for half a decade,” Felix smiled. “I’ve never seen that boy be so affectionate or cheesy before he started dating you. It’s going to be fine. And even if there are some mishaps, they aren’t signs that the universe is trying to break you apart. It just means that the world is working normally - things very rarely go perfectly smoothly. God knows your relationship had a few bumps along the way. It just means that you’re human and that you’ve worked hard to make your own happily ever after together.”
“I guess...” Changbin sniffled, his eyes red and glassy.
“Now, I’m going to get Hyunjin to come back in and fix your dumb hair,” Felix grinned as the older man paled under the fine layer of makeup. “Since you messed it up again.”
“He’s going to kill me.”
“Nah, Jeongin would kill him if he killed you.” Felix pressed a kiss to his friend’s cheek before bouncing out of the room.
“Fuck...” Changbin sat heavily on the nearest chair, slumping and propping his head up in his hands.
“Hey there, handsome. Come here often?”
“Isn’t it bad luck to see the bride before the wedding?” Changbin sat up, the tension instantly leaving his shoulders as he saw his lovely fiancé standing in the doorway.
“Who said I was the bride?” Jeongin grinned, his eyes turning up in affection.
“Who said I wasn’t the bride?” Changbin teased, going over to the younger man and wrapping his arms around his slim waist. Pressing a kiss to his cheek, Changbin gave himself a chance to really look at Jeongin. “Fuck, you’re gorgeous.”
“Thank you,” Jeongin’s grin softened. “You’re gorgeous too. Hyunjin hyung did a good job.”
“He’s going to be so pissed that I messed up all his hard work.” Changbin sighed, gently resting his forehead on Jeongin’s shoulder, not wanting to get any makeup on the younger man’s suit.
“Nervous?”
“Yeah...”
“Why?” Jeongin asked, pulling Changbin away so he could press a kiss to the corner of his mouth. “It’s not like we haven’t been acting married for the last two years.”
“That’s exactly what Felix said. I just- I’m agonizing over all the small things that could go wrong.”
“Mm, my pretty bunny,” Jeongin hummed, cupping Changbin’s cheeks. “Your brain is so big and beautiful and stupid sometimes. Even if something goes wrong, it’s not going to change that I want to spend my life with you.”
“Yeah?” He knew Jeongin was telling the truth, but hearing it again put his nerves at ease.
“Yeah,” Jeongin murmured. “I’ve never met anyone who’s made me feel the way you do and that’s something I would never give away willingly. I love you, hyung. So fucking much.”
“I love you,” Changbin leaned into Jeongin’s touch. “More than anything.”
“Worst case scenario we run away from our own wedding and elope at the town hall.”
“Our friends would skin us alive,” Changbin chuckled. “They’ve been more invested in this wedding than we have.”
“I’ll leave you to finish getting dolled up for me,” Jeongin stepped back, his eyes taking in his fiancé from head to foot, a lecherous smile growing on his face. “I can’t wait to see your makeup smear, bunny. You always look good under me but I have a feeling tonight you’ll be even prettier begging for my co-”
“Jeongin! You’re not supposed to be here yet!” Hyunjin threw the door open, making the two grooms jump a foot in the air. Changbin put a hand to his chest, feeling his heart slam against his ribs at the shock.
“I’m going!” Jeongin put his hands up in surrender. He gave Changbin one last kiss before slipping out. As he closed the door behind him he heard Hyunjin start to scold Changbin for messing up his hair already.
With a grin, he made his way down the hall to his own suite. The venue they found was beyond perfect, with a beautiful rustic barn and flowers done by a special florist that only worked with that venue. It was a perfect day too, the sun shining brightly but not making the air too hot to enjoy the outdoors. It was just early enough in the season that they didn’t have to worry about bugs but late enough that it wouldn’t be too cold once the sun set.
The strangest part of the whole thing was how affordable the venue was. They had a somewhat large budget to begin with, seeing how he and Changbin both worked full time and his finance’s parents had been more than eager to put money towards the wedding, but the venue was barely a third of what they had anticipated paying, which didn’t really make sense to Jeongin because it was almost too idealistic.
“There you are,” Seungmin hummed as Jeongin re-entered his groom's suite. “Did you get in trouble for seeing hyung before the ceremony?”
“Jinnie hyung got pissy that Binnie messed his hair up already,” Jeongin chuckled, going over to the mirror and checking his own suit. As good of a job as he was doing keeping his own nerves a secret, his hands shook as he adjusted his lapels. “Kicked me out and everything.”
“It’s going to be fine,” Seungmin assured him for the tenth time that day. Jeongin’s best man went over to him and brushed invisible lint off his shoulder. “We’ve planned for just about every inevitability.”
“Thanks, Min,” Jeongin turned and smiled at his oldest friend. He and Seungmin had known each other since they were in diapers, and Seungmin was the only person in the world other than his mother who knew his biggest secret. Not even Changbin knew. “Is everything on schedule?”
“Mm, they’re setting up the last of the flowers now,” Seungmin nodded. “Guests should start arriving in about two hours and the ceremony is in three. We have plenty of time to agonize over every way things could go wrong.”
“Wow, you really know how to make a guy feel at ease,” Jeongin deadpanned. “Why don’t you go check in on something. I need some time to myself right now.”
“Are you sure?” The teasing tone instantly vanished from Seungmin’s voice.
“Mm, I just need a chance to breathe.”
“Alright, well... keep your phone on you,” Seungmin frowned but understood. “I’ll text you any updates.”
“Sounds good,” Jeongin sat heavily and offered his best man a tired smile. “You always take such good care of me.”
“And soon you won’t be my responsibility anymore,” Seungmin teased, earning a slap to the stomach. “Changbinnie hyung can finally take my place as Jeongin-wrangler.”
“Get the fuck out of here.” He grinned.
“Love you, even when you’re being a bitch.” Seungmin blew him a dramatic kiss before slipping out of the suite. As soon as he was alone, Jeongin slumped down into the chair more. He knew it would wrinkle his suit, but Hyunjin had a hand steamer and threatened to go down the line and remove any wrinkles from everyone’s outfits before he would let them walk down the aisle.
It had barely been a surprise when Hyunjin declined a position in the wedding party so he could personally make sure everything ran smoothly behind the scenes. As much as he would never admit it, Jeongin was so eternally grateful that his friend volunteered to do it because already Hyunjin had stopped several catastrophes.
Out of the corner of his eye, Jeongin saw someone moving. He was alone in the suite - at least, he should have been. Turning his head he caught sight of a man with curly blonde hair dressed in an old fashioned looking suit just in time for the man to disappear around the corner.
“Was he one of hyung’s friends?” Jeongin asked himself, his voice getting eaten by the thick fabric curtains that hung on all the walls. Changbin had mentioned a friend that had been estranged from his life back when they first started dating, but he was surprised that the older man would have invited him to the wedding.
At least, without telling Jeongin.
He suddenly wished he could see Changbin, but he knew Hyunjin would kick him out again if he tried to sneak into the other man’s suite before the ceremony. Especially so soon after he had been kicked out the first time. Changbin always made everything better - it was one of the main reasons Jeongin fell in love with him.
Jeongin’s life hadn’t been easy. Growing up with his... gift, he found it hard to be a normal kid. He tried his best, and he was pretty sure it was only thanks to Seungmin staying by his side and not abandoning him when he found out that kept Jeongin alive this long. He only had Seungmin to rely on for most of his life, but then he started to meet the others, and he hesitantly began to trust them as well.
Then he met Changbin, and everything in his universe shifted. It had been almost six years since they met. Jeongin had been a senior in high school and was visiting Seungmin at college, the same one Jeongin himself had been accepted to for the next semester. He had visited his friend several times over Seungmin’s freshman year, but it had been the first time he introduced Jeongin to any of his college friends.
Felix had been the easiest to get along with, the older boy instantly latching onto Jeongin’s side and berating Seungmin for not bringing him around sooner. Hyunjin showed up next, still a little sweaty from his dance class but happy to have made it nonetheless. Changbin had been late to the gathering, having gotten so caught up in a project that he completely lost track of time. All evening the others had told Jeongin stories about their missing friend, and by the time he arrived, Jeongin was more curious than ever.
Changbin had been so intimidating at first, with his wide shoulders and thick arms and the glare. Felix instantly berated him for scowling and Changbin’s whole demeanor had changed, his strong shoulders slumping and his face twisting in a cute pout. He tried to defend himself, saying his eyes hurt from staring at his computer for so long and in that exact moment Jeongin knew he was fucked.
They started dating a few months after they met, before midterms of Jeongin’s first semester, but he had been smitten from the start. He learned about a year into dating that Changbin had been the same, so shocked and enamored by the younger boy that he was sure he messed up his first impression.
Dating Changbin had been a dream, and even with their rocky points, it was still the most fulfilling relationship he had ever been in. He knew early on that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with the older boy, even if he didn’t know how to say it at the time. When he finally got the courage to propose, Changbin cried for two full days.
“Hey, do you wanna come check the arrangements before the guests start to arrive?” Seungmin stuck his head in. Jeongin nodded and stood, taking a deep breath before following his friend out.
“Do you know if hyung invited anyone else to the wedding?” He asked as they made their way down to the barn at the bottom of the hill. The house with the suites sat atop the hill, and despite how the two buildings looked next to one another, the house itself was much older than the barn, which had been added at some point in the early 1900’s. The house itself was from the mid 1800’s and had plaques around the grounds explaining some of the history of the property.
Jeongin and Changbin had both been excited about that, the two being history nerds. When they came to check out the venue ahead of time, they spent an extra two hours after their consultation wandering the grounds and learning about the buildings. It only solidified that Changbin really was his other half.
“Not that I know of,” Seungmin glanced over at him. “Why?”
“I thought I saw someone in my suite earlier.”
“Jeongin, they might have been-”
“Yang Jeongin, we meet again!” A young man came bounding over to them, a bright, heart shaped grin stretching across his face. “It’s so nice to see you again! I hope everything went well with your preparations.”
“Jisung-ssi, thank you for doing all this for us,” Jeongin bowed. “The flowers look absolutely gorgeous. I just know hyung is going to bawl his eyes out the second he sees them.”
“Sometimes tears aren’t a bad thing,” Jisung’s eyes shone with mirth as Jeongin stood up again. “My husband is setting the last of the arrangements up inside the barn. Care to come and see?’
“I’d love to.” Jeongin said, following Jisung the last few steps towards the bard.
“Wow, it really looks good in here,” Seungmin hummed as he looked around. “Like a fairytale.”
“Ah, it’s too perfect,” Jeongin hummed with a nervous smile. “Bin was the one worried something would go wrong but now I’m starting to get nervous...”
“Don’t worry, nothing can go wrong here,” Jisung said casually. “This venue is protected.”
“Protected?”
“Mm! Nothing can go wrong if you have your wedding here.” Jisung repeated.
“Is there a guardian angel that watches over this place or something?” Seungmin asked with a chuckle.
“Or something,” Jisung gave him a playful wink. “Now if you see a handsome man with purple hair, can you tell him to get his cute little ass back to the barn so we can do our freaking job?”
“Your husband, I’m guessing?”
“The one and only!”
“I’ll keep an eye out,” Jeongin hummed as he traced the petals of a rose in a nearby arrangement. The second his fingers trailed along the soft, delicate pink, he felt a shiver run down his spine as though he had been lightly electrocuted. Blinking, he pulled his hand back. He didn’t think flowers were conductive. “Um, thank you again. For everything.”
“Of course,” Jisung replied. “We put our hearts and souls into this venue... every arrangement is done with the utmost care.”
“I can tell-” Seungmin started to say as he turned. Slamming into a nearby pillar, the three watched the flower arrangement perched on top wobble ominously. For a moment, it genuinely looked like it was going to topple completely, only for it to settle down again without so much as spilling a single drop of water.
“That was close...” Jeongin breathed, heart thudding against his ribs.
“That would have been so bad.” Seungmin looked pale.
“I told you - nothing bad can happen.” Jisung sounded completely confident in his words.
“Um... thanks,” Jeongin muttered, feeling the need to sit down. It would have been a small hiccup in the grand scheme of things, but the adrenaline was coursing through his veins as if the roof of the barn caved in. “Hyunjin hyung will be coming down to fuss over everything as soon as he fixes Bin’s hair so if you have any questions or concerns, he’s the one you’ll want to talk to.”
Jisung waved as they left the barn, both Jeongin and Seungmin silent as they walked side by side. As they approached the house, Jeongin could see the window into Changbin’s suite. A soft smile grew on his face as he saw Hyunjin still fussing with his fiancé, the taller man scowling and using a brush to accentuate whatever he was saying. Changbin was pouting, arms crossed and hair only half fixed.
His smile dropped when he noticed someone else in the room with them. The man with the curly hair and the old fashioned suit stood behind them, giggling brightly at their argument. Even from the short distance, Jeongin could see the man’s dimples as he glanced between the other two.
“There. That’s the guy I was telling you about earlier.” Jeongin said, pointing him out.
“Guy?” Seungmin squinted up at the window. “In hyung’s suite?”
“Yeah! He’s right behind them.”
“But there’s-”
“Jeongin! There you are,” Felix came bounding over to them. “I think it’s about time you saved hyung from Jinnie’s wrath.”
“My job is never finished,” Jeongin sighed dramatically. He glanced back through the window, fondness making his eyes burn. “I’ll go send Hyunjin out. I’m sure he has other things to be doing other than making Changbin go insane before the ceremony.”
“Tell him to find me,” Felix said quickly. “I’m going over to the reception area to double check some things.”
“I will,” Jeongin then turned to Seungmin. “You wanna go with him?”
“I think I’ll stick with you for now,” Seungmin said, his brows furrowed. “Just in case.”
“Mm, see you in a little bit then Lixie hyung.”
Jeongin and Seungmin made their way back into the house, the wooden floorboards creaking slightly with their weight. Jeongin jumped when he felt something rubbing against his leg, absolutely not yelping like a startled dog.
“A cat?” Seungmin frowned, crouching and reaching a hand out. The cat instantly went over, sniffing his fingers and giving his knuckle a little lick. “I didn’t think there were any pets here.”
“He’s so cute,” Jeongin crouched as well. “His coat is so shiny.”
“He’s very well taken care of,” Seungmin hummed, carefully reaching out. Much to his surprise, the cat allowed him to scoop him up, cradling the creature in his arms like an infant. “I’m going to need a lint roller.”
“I’m sure Hyunjin hyung bought the local Walmart out of every lint roller, portable sewing kit, and can of hairspray they had.” Jeongin chuckled as they made their way up to the second floor. The moment they stepped off the stairs they could hear Hyunjin’s voice and Changbin’s whine through the wood of the suite’s door and Jeongin felt such a swell of affection towards his fiancé that it made his chest ache.
“Hyunjin, Felix was looking for you,” Seungmin started as Jeongin pushed the door open. “He said to meet him over by the reception area.”
“Lix?” Hyunjin instantly perked up, Changbin’s hair seemingly forgotten as he gathered his things. “I have to go then.”
“I wonder what’s going on with him,” Changbin muttered as Hyunjin closed the door behind him, attempting to smooth down his bangs. “He’s been acting weird recently.”
“Wedding jitters?” Jeongin suggested, going over and pressing a kiss to the older man’s cheek.
“Why would he have wedding jitters?”
“He’s put more effort into our wedding than we have,” Jeongin chuckled. “We’d be fucked without him.”
“Where did you find a cat?” Changbin finally noticed their new companion.
“He was downstairs,” Seungmin continued to scratch under the cat’s chin. “I went to pet him and he seemed friendly enough.”
“Aw, cute.”
“Not as cute as you.” Jeongin countered, pulling Changbin into his chest, his hands resting on the older man’s waist as he stared into his eyes.
“Innie...”
“Mm, I love you,” he whispered, leaning in and letting their foreheads press against one another. “So much.”
“Cute...” An unfamiliar voice said, making Jeongin jump. Glancing over Changbin’s shoulder he saw the blonde man watching them with a soft expression, one that almost seemed lined with a sort of heavy sadness.
“Bin, who’s that?” He asked, nudging his fiancé.
“Huh?” Changbin frowned. “Who’s who?”
“Behind you.”
“That’s not funny-”
“No, seriously!”
“Hey look at that!” Seungmin shouted, gesturing out the window. Jeongin blinked, fully well knowing that his friend wouldn’t have been able to see anything out the window from where he was standing. Despite that, he and Changbin went over and he felt himself gasp.
Felix and Hyunjin were kissing against the side of the barn, Hyunjin’s fingers twisted in the smaller man’s hair as Felix gripped his hips. They were grinding against each other, their faces and necks bright red.
“Well... I guess that explains why Hyunjin’s been acting so weird...” Changbin muttered in shock. Felix had been his best friend since they met when the younger man moved to his high school a few months before he graduated. Though they only had a short while to get close while in high school, they clicked instantly and didn’t let the year of college separating them ruin their connection.
He didn’t even know that Felix was into Hyunjin!
“How did you-” Jeongin started to ask as Seungmin grabbed his arm and yanked him away from the window. The cat jumped down and landed gracefully onto the worn floors, picking up his front paw to clean.
“Are you stupid?” Seungmin hissed, glancing over at Changbin to make sure the older man was still gawking at the sight outside the window. “You’re the only one who can see him.”
“What?”
“Whoever you’re talking about?” Seungmin pressed and Jeongin felt his face paling as he realized what his friend was trying to tell him. “Jeongin, there’s no one here but you, me, and hyung.”
Jeongin whipped his head around to stare at the blonde man, who was now crouching and smiling at the cat, who was most definitely looking directly at the man. The cat’s tail was flicking lazily, ears pressed down as he purred. It was clear the man wasn’t quite petting the cat, but he was making an attempt.
It made sense - the old fashioned suit, how no one seemed to notice his presence. The man in the suit was a ghost, and Jeongin was the only one who could see him. The ghost himself didn’t even seem to realize he had been spotted.
No wonder Seungmin was so freaked out. Jeongin had been able to see ghosts for as long as he could remember, and there were only two souls in the world who knew - his mom, and Seungmin. As a child it had scared him shitless, the only way he was able to get any sleep at all was if he was being held. As he aged, he learned how to block them out to the point where he rarely saw ghosts anymore. It was a blessing, because he never wanted to have this gift in the first place. It destroyed him for years, and as the ghosts started to slowly fade away, Jeongin finally began to find himself.
Meeting Changbin had been a big part of that. After meeting the older man - even more so after dating him - Jeongin found it easier to block out the spirits because he had something far more important to focus on. The more time he spent with Changbin, the less he needed to actively fight off his gift. It had been months since he last saw a ghost, and he thought maybe - just maybe - he had finally grown out of it.
Though he supposed with the stress from the wedding, it made sense that someone was able to sneak past his defenses. The man with the curly hair looked up from the cat to scan the room, only to freeze when he realized Jeongin was looking directly at him.
He slowly raised a hand and pointed at himself with a nod. Jeongin just nodded back, almost amused by how panicked the man suddenly looked. He went to reach for the cat only for his arms to go right through him. Jeongin’s chest ached at the despair in the man’s eyes as the cat blinked up at him.
The cat let out a mournful meow, his ears pressed flat against his head as he tried to nudge the man’s hand, only for him to go right through it.
“Damn, the windows don’t open,” Changbin broke the tension. “I wanted to yell out to them and freak them out.”
“Don’t do that,” Seungmin scolded. “If we scare them off, they might not get together and then we’ll be stuck with two pining assholes for the whole ceremony.”
Jeongin was still staring at the man, who now had glistening tears running down his cheeks. Each time a tear dropped off his chin, it turned into dust that swam in the beams of afternoon sun that danced in through the large windows.
Nowhere during their tour or research did they dig up anything about a death at the venue, though it only made sense. A property as old as this was bound to have a few spirits wandering around, but in his experience, it was only the people who were killed in a vicious way who managed to remain on Earth in such a solid, comprehensible form. It was rare that he saw someone who passed away peacefully or from natural causes remain at all, let alone in a human form - in rare cases, they would remain as blips on Jeongin’s radar, able to make glasses rattle but not enough to break anything. Enough to make the room a little colder but not enough to set off any readers.
So who was this? How did he die? It must have been painful, if he was so present that he was genuinely mistaken as a human. Maybe if he just ignored the man, he would go away? He didn’t want his wedding to be ruined by his stupid curse, and he refused to let Changbin know he had been keeping such a big secret from him. In the best case scenario, Changbin never found out, and they lived the rest of their lives happy and blissfully unaware that one half of their marriage was ‘special’.
He loved Changbin, and he knew that Changbin loved him, but what if this was it? What if this was the line that, once crossed, couldn’t be fixed? He needed Changbin in his life more than he needed to breathe. If it meant hiding a part of himself, taking his own secret to the grave with him? Then it’s a small price to pay to have Changbin by his side.
“Jeongin?” Changbin whispered, making Jeongin jump.
“Wh-”
“I dunno,” The older man frowned, cupping Jeongin’s jaw. “You just... got really pale. It looks like you saw a ghost or something.”
“A-a ghost?” His voice broke. He saw Seungmin’s eyes widen over Changbin’s shoulder.
“Are you really that nervous?” Changbin prodded gently, clearly concerned for his partner. “I know it’s scary, but no matter what happens today, you’ll always be my soulmate. It’s like you said - we can always run off and elope.”
“I love you,” Jeongin wrapped his arms around Changbin’s neck, holding him tight. “So much... I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“Baby... I love you too,” Changbin held him just as close, his breath tickling Jeongin’s throat. “Do you need anything?”
“No... no I just- I think I need to sit down for a minute,” He sighed, stepping back. “We don’t have a lot of time before guests start arriving...”
“It’ll be okay,” Changbin murmured softly. “We’re gonna be okay.”
“Mm, I-I’ll see you for the ceremony, yeah?”
“Yeah-” Changbin’s eyes turned up affectionately as he cupped Jeongin’s cheek. As he leaned in to place a kiss to the younger man’s lips, they both suddenly felt someone shove them harshly. They both tumbled to the ground, limbs tangled together just in time for one of the chandeliers on the ceiling to give way, the metal and glass crashing to the floor, shattering right where they had been standing moments before.
“What the actual fuck?” Changbin breathed, eyes wide.
“Are you guys okay?” Seungmin came scrambling over from the other side of the room, hands fluttering around them in an attempt to make sure they weren’t hurt. “Holy shit!”
“W-we’re fine,” Jeongin grunted as he sat up, Changbin’s weight making it a little hard. “I guess Jisung was exaggerating when he said nothing could go wrong here...”
“I mean, you’re not hurt,” Seungmin pointed out as he eyed the swinging chain that had been the cause of their panic. “I tink that’s pretty fucking lucky.”
“If Jeongin hadn’t pulled us out of the way in time, we’d be in a lot of trouble,” Changbin turned to his fiance. “Are you alright?”
“Me?” Jeongin blinked. He hadn’t been the one to move them... “I’m fine...”
Glancing over his shoulder he saw the blonde man standing in the mess of the chandelier, the twisted metal fragments sticking out from his legs as he stared at the two grooms in horror, arms still outstretched from pushing them. Even the cat seemed shocked, his tail sticking straight up in the air and ears pressed back.
The cat shook his head and quickly darted from the room through the crack in the door, even though Jeongin faintly recalled closing it firmly behind them when they entered.
“I think we should both sit down for a minute,” Changbin pulled Jeongin over to the couch. “I’ll talk to someone about this, okay? Hyung’ll handle it.”
“Please...”
“Please what?”
“Please sit with me...”
“Of course.” Changbin did as he was asked, pulling Jeongin into his lap. Jeongin continued to stare over Changbin’s shoulder, unable to look away from the man, who seemed equally as gobsmacked as Jeongin felt.
“You can see me,” The man said. It wasn’t a question. “You can hear me.”
Jeongin gave a minute nod, barely remembering how to blink.
“Is everything alright?” Hyunjin slammed into the room, eyes wide and wild. Felix stumbled in behind him, looking pale and panicked. “We-we heard a crash-”
“Holy shit,” Felix hissed as he saw the damage. “What happened?”
“Come on, let’s go to the other suite,” Hyunjin said, sounding serious. “I’ll be calling the owner immediately. This is not fucking okay. You guys could have been seriously injured!”
Neither Jeongin nor Changbin put up a fight as Seungmin and Felix helped them down the hall to the other suite, Hyunjin already on the phone and angrily waiting for the call to connect.
“I’m sorry...” A soft voice said as they left. Jeongin turned around for just a moment and caught the man staring at him, his pretty face twisted in tears. “I’m so sorry-”
Jeongin wanted to say it was okay, that he didn’t do anything wrong - that he saved their lives. Instead, he remained silent as Felix closed the door to Changbin’s suite.
