Relation is a strange concept, Ranboo thought idly as he watcher his brother bid goodnight to his champion.
He had never wanted to pick a champion, choosing instead to hangout with other gods.
But Dream was different. He had always been curious with mortals. He supposed it was because of his brother's domain; control.
Mortals always sought out control, kings and emperors always piled offerings at his shrines.
Dream was the second god rulers frequently prayed to, with Victory as the first.
Victory was a little weird by god standards. Whenever a war sparked between mortals, he was there.
Choosing Technoblade as his name, whichever side he joined in came out as victorious. He ruled over victory and war itself.
Perhaps that was the reason why Dream thought of victory as a rival.
Whenever Dream and Technoblade blessed opposing sides in a war, the result was often a draw, with countless casualties and blood staining the battleground.
"Why are you here brother?", Dream asked him. Ranboo dispersed his thoughts and smiled, "I just wanted to stop by"
Dream nodded, "Well, stay as long as you like, just don't disturb Tommy. He needs the rest", he said fondly.
Tommy, that was the name of Dream's champion, if he recalled correctly.
"I don't know why other gods -let alone you- choose champions", Ranboo admitted.
His brother raised an eyebrow, "What I want to know is why you don't pick one". Then he glanced at his champion's door, "And Tommy is an interesting mortal"
"How so?", Ranboo asked. Dream smiled, and reclined on one of his many couches.
"Born of avians but he himself with no wings, which made people wonder if he was adopted", he sighed.
He started to count on his fingers, "Tragedies plagued him in the form of his only friend dying in front of him, and his own parents abandoning him"
"Got accidentally involved in many skirmishes and got manipulated on becoming a soldier at the age of 14", Dream raised five fingers ruefully.
"I couldn't even bless him. All avians and their offspring were already blessed by Death", his brother said sadly.
Dream continued, "Death's blessing was both a curse and a blessing. It prevented him from dying, but he couldn't save his comrades from their deaths"
Then he shrugged, "I guess Death finally granted him mercy, cancelling her blessing on him and allowing a blessed-one of Victory to kill him painlessly"
Dream ran a hand through his blonde hair, "I didn't want his life's story to end there. He was such a nice kid, had a charming personality. So I made him my champion"
It only took a few seconds for Ranboo to register it all. After having existed for decades, let alone a few millenia, he understood things more quickly.
"And you think an eternity under your care is better than being embraced by the Void?", Ranboo said jokingly.
His brother pouted, "Am I that bad?". Then he sighed, "I hope he at least feels happy here"
Ranboo laughed lightly, "Are you kidding? He gets to meet a god. And be immortal"
"As long as you don't coerce him into doing your will -as you're quite famous for doing so- it'll be fine", he continued.
He met his brother's gaze, mismatched eyes of green and red meeting emerald ones.
Then Dream groaned, "Why do you like teasing me so much?"
Ranboo put up his hands. "Which do you mean? Saying the truth, or messing with your emotions?"
"You little shit, I mean both. Do not play with my emotions ever again. And I only manipulated Wilbur to stop ranting about anteaters! It only lasted for 5 minutes!", Dream glared at him.
Ranboo grinned, "I only accelerated your fear. It was already there when I got here". Sometimes, being the god of emotions had its benefits.
"When will you introduce me to your champion?", he asked curiously. Dream waved a hand, "When he stops being so surprised at seeing me"
"And I also want to give him a bit more time before I introduce you to him", he continued, snickering.
Ranboo elbowed him and his brother fell to the marble floor, laughing.
___________
"Tommy, this is Ranboo, my brother. Ranboo, my champion, Tommy", Dream introduced them.
Ranboo gave Tommy a comforting smile, grinning as the other reluctantly smiled back.
Then his eyebrows knotted together, "Wait… brother? You're blood-related?"
Dream shook his head, nudging his champion to sit down. "We're not related, most god's are not. But we think of each other as siblings", he clarified.
Tommy nodded, leaning against the armrest. Dream sat next to him, careful to put enough space between them as to not overwhelm the other.
Ranboo snickered. He knew that if his brother had wings, he would've encased his champion in them. Or at least draped one wing over the other like a blanket.
He held back a laugh. Dream always liked physical touch. He told him that it helped him calm down if he was panicking, which rarely ever happened.
"Ranboo.. are you a god too?", Tommy asked, voice laced with curiosity but also shyness.
Said being nodded. "I am. The god of emotions, at your service", he bowed his head teasingly.
The two gods shared a smile as Tommy laughed. It was a short one, but he could sense his brother filling up with joy at hearing it.
Dream shouldn't worry about their future. Even though he didn't know what fate was plotting, he knew that his brother would do everything to make Tommy happy.
Despite having control as his domain, his brother remained carefree, letting others have their freedom.
He blessed the side that held good wishes for the people, handed the reigns of countries to prosper under good rulers.
And as he listened to the god and champion pair converse, he thought that maybe having a champion isn't too bad.
Maybe he should pick one for himself, he smiled. Perhaps it was time to visit the mortal realm after so long.
