Chapter Text
Eddie had warned him to take it easy, that just because his leg was on the mend didn’t mean he could be reckless again. He couldn’t go back to work or go running or use the gym, especially when Eddie found out one rainy afternoon that his boyfriend of 3 months was 4 months pregnant with a random guy from a bars baby.
Buck had been beside himself, it was at a check up for his blood thinners and to have another scan on his leg. The doctor made him do a mandatory blood test and within an hour he was being congratulated and numbly wheeled into an ultrasound room being shown the 4 month old fetus growing in his stomach. He hadn’t even known he was a carrier his parents always told him he wasn’t but now he wonders if they ever even got him tested. Leaving the hospital with a photo of his daughter securely tucked away in his wallet next to the photo of Eddie and Chris from last Christmas, Buck broke down. Didn’t even make it to his car, just sat on the pavement outside the hospital with his head in his hands sobbing.
He had loved Eddie for 3 years; from the moment he met him, he knew he was the only person he would ever truly love. But now it was over, completely and utterly over because it didn’t matter how much Buck loved Chris and would do anything for him, Eddie was already a dad when he fell in love with him, Buck fell in love with Chris as an extension of Eddie. Buck was just himself, yeah he came with ADHD and a shit load of issues but Eddie already loved him in-spite of those things. This baby wasn’t an add on of the Buck that Eddie fell in love with. This was new, this wasn’t what he had signed up for.
Buck had finally picked himself up off the floor and stumbled back to his jeep that was in the parking lot; he didn’t remember driving back to his apartment. He hasn’t even set foot in the tiny apartment for weeks after essentially moving in with Eddie and Chris 2 months ago. It was nearly empty except for his furniture and a few boxes of old junk he had from years before. All of his clothes and important belongings scattered throughout the Diaz house. Buck shimmied out of his jacket and jeans and went to lie on his bed. Staring up at the sky light he hesitantly ran a slow hand down his chest inching lower and lower until he felt it. It wasn’t big but it was one hundred percent there the startings of a baby bump, Buck had just put it down to his bad diet and spending more time with Eddie than at the gym. But now he knew the firm mound that was starting to protrude just under his belly button was in fact his daughter. His.. not Eddies.. his and oh god- he couldn’t even remember what the guy looked like let alone his name.- His daughter.
It took all of 4 hours before Eddie was ready to alert the media and call every police officer in LA to search for his missing boyfriend. Buck was supposed to come straight to the station from his appointment so they could get lunch and Eddie could check what the doctor had said. When Buck didn’t turn up Eddie tried to call him and text him for over an hour with no reply. Bobby understood right away and let Eddie head home early when he explained that Buck was MIA after his appointment. With a promise to call when he found him Eddie headed home expecting Buck to be there.
Eddie had searched every place he knew Buck frequented, called everyone Buck had ever met and had left him over 30 voicemails. In one last ditch effort before calling the police to report him missing Eddie headed to Bucks old apartment, Buck was giving the keys back at the end of the month, officially moving In with Eddie and Chris. So it was extremely unlikely he was there but Eddie was out of ideas. The relief that washed over Eddie when he saw Bucks black jeep parked in its usual spot was short lived once he was inside. The sound that Eddie heard when he opened the door to was one that made him feel like his guts had been ripped out, raw sobs echoed through the small box of an apartment.
It took about 30 seconds for Eddies feet to catch up with his brain as he bolted up the stairs to bucks loft. Buck was curled up around a pillow his face bright red as he sobbed brokenly. Eddie slowly approached the bed…
“Buck?” His soft voice was almost a whisper but enough to startle the distraught 28 year old.
Bucks head shot up with wide bleary eyes, they landed on Eddie and the sobs suddenly caught in his throat making a strangled kind of hiccup.
“Oh baby” Eddie soothed, not even bothering to take off his shoes he climbed onto the bed behind Buck tucking himself in against his back an arm wrapping around his boyfriend Eddies palm splayed out against his chest feeling his rapid heart beat.
“It’s okay baby, I’m here it’s okay” he whispered kissing the back of Bucks neck. Buck didn’t make a noise his sobs slowly coming to a stop and little snores took over.
Eddie had found Buck in many different episodes of distress before but nothing like this, shooting a text to everyone letting them know that Buck was now located and safe. Thanking them for all for helping him search.
As Eddie shifted back to spoon the sleeping Buck, he noticed something scrunched up in his fist. Slowly leaning over he pried the paper from his hand.
All of the air in the room seemed to have been sucked out as Eddie stared at the ultrasound. His eyes scanning over every detail of the little baby shaped blob, a grin forming on his lips as he notices “Evan Buckley” written in the top left corner. The little “it’s a girl” writing just under the baby in the ultrasound caused the tears to escape his eyes. A daughter; they were going to have a daughter, Chris was going to be a big brother. Eddie was going to be a dad again, Buck was gonna be a dad again.
God in 5 months they would have her here, the ultrasound said Buck was due in November. A couple of days before his Abualas birthday, god Buck was going to look so beautiful round with their daughter.
It took about 30minutes of grinning, tears and rubbing Bucks stomach as he slept for Eddie to realise. Once again the air in the room was thick and his tears became harder to stop but now for a different reason.
Buck was 4 months pregnant. Eddie and Buck had only slept with each other for the first time 3 months ago. This wasn’t his baby.. the thoughts of a little female Chris running around with Bucks bright blue eyes and Eddies tanned skin slowly faded away. This was Bucks baby.
It took Eddie 30 seconds to decide he didn’t care, Buck was the love of his life, he was Chris’s other dad, he was the best thing that had ever happened to either of them. He hadn’t even hesitated when Eddie had told him about Chris, just grinned and bounced in his seat asking question after question about Chris’s likes and dislikes and what he was like. Eddie was pretty sure Buck loved Chris way before he loved Eddie. So how could Eddie not love this baby girl, she was going to be a little version of the love of his life. Big blue eyes, curly blonde hair and a little pink birthmark slowly crept into Eddies mind as he pictured their future.
Eddie was to much of a coward to wake Buck up yet, wanted him to get some rest after whatever day he had, had. Eddie lay with him for 2 hours before he began to stir, stretching out and rolling onto his back.
“Hey cariño” Eddie whispered, Bucks peaceful sleepy face turned to sudden panic as he opened his eyes and stared at Eddie.
“Eddie-I - what’re you- how did you-“ Buck sat up pressing his back against the head board his knees tucked up to his chest. His eye glued to the little piece of paper in Eddies hand. Buck was sure his heart could be heard outside of his body.
Eddie watched him for a moment, licking his bottom lip. He needed to choose his words carefully so not to upset or send Buck into a spiral.
“I hope she sleeps through the night, when Chris was a baby he was up at all hours. Maybe she’ll take after me and be a deep sleeper. Dios do you think Bobby will let me take paternity leave after only just going back?“ Eddie couldn’t stop the words from flowing out of his mouth.
Buck watched him with wet eyes. “Ed-Eddie sh-she’s not-“
“Yes she is” Eddie said venomously, a deep frown on his brow. He moved and piled Buck into his chest his right hand slipping under Bucks T-shirt using his thumb to sooth little circles into Bucks skin.
“She’s as much mine as Christopher is yours Buck. I’m just luckier that I get to be here for you when you have her and when she’s baby. I get to teach her things and love her for longer” Eddie moved his hand to cup Bucks jaw making him look up at him.
“Evan you and Chris are my entire life, this baby is a miracle and we are so lucky to have her” Buck sniffled and fisted his hands into Eddies work shirt pressing a kiss to his mouth.
“I’m sorry Ed’s” he whispered. His throat was raw and painful from the sobs that had been ripping through it for most of the day.
“Don’t ever apologise for this, Dios Buck never this.” Eddie pressed his forehead to Bucks and sighed before giving a him a smile.
It had taken another month for them to tell anyone, Buck felt like he had been wrapped in bubble wrap. Eddie had completely baby/Buck proofed the house to be sure Buck didn’t do his usual and accidentally hurt himself, he made Buck a vitamin smoothie every morning and monitored his diet in a little black diary that Buck swore held the secrets to making the worst food in history. Eddie had been hovering over Buck like he would die if Eddie wasn’t within 2 meters of him at all times.
They told Chris when Buck was 5 and a half months. Chris didn’t even give them a chance to tell him that the baby was a girl before he was jumping on Buck and shouting about how excited he was and all the things he was going to teach the baby. Buck and Eddie both cried as they listened to their son ramble about his new sister.
Buck was a week off being 8 months pregnant when he decided to pick Chris up from school early and take him to his latest ultrasound with him while Eddie was at work. Chris had been begging to come but the appointments seemed to always clash with his Physio therapy sessions.
“I can’t believe she’s inside you” Chris said in awe as Buck helped him put his belt on back in the jeep. A grin on his face buck nodded bringing Chris’s hand down to touch his stomach, “believe it! She’s kicking me already letting me know she can’t wait to meet you, she knows she’s got the best big brother out here waiting for her”
“Do you think she’s kicking because she wanted ice cream?” Chris asked looking up at buck with wide eyes a smirk on his lips.
Laughing buck nodded “I’d say so, I could go for ice cream. Just don’t tell your dad he’s got me on a strict no fun diet okay?“ Chris nodded showing him a big toothy grin.
Buck kissed Chris’s head and closed the door walking around to his drivers door. Bucks bump was basically the size of a 3 month pregnant woman, the doctor said it was most likely because of his abs and work out routine. Buck didn’t mind it made it easier for no one to notice.
It wasn’t that Buck didn’t want people to know about their daughter but he didn’t like that anyone and everyone felt like they had an open invitation to touch him whenever they wanted just because he was pregnant.
In the drivers seat Buck started the car and headed towards the pier to get Christopher’s ice cream.
