Chapter Text
Numbness is all Izuku could feel a his strolled through the bustling streets making his way home.
'Come on don't cry you knew this was the reality even All Might said it'
He couldn't become a hero, not without a quirk. Just who could he save if he didn't have the ability that others did, 'I've been trying this whole time, for nothing!'
As he wiped the tears beginning to form in the corner of his eyes sudden screams of shock alerted is attention to a crowd near him.
'What's going on is this about the explosion I saw earlier, I must've walked here subconsciously?'
The greenette managed to push through the swarm of people, managing to catch a glance of the villain almost falling backwards at the sight.
'I-It's the sludge villain b-but how did he escape is it when I jumped on All Might w-which means this is my fault!!'
"We need a hero! Who can get that kid out?" Kamui Woods grunted in annoyance, thwipping his branches back out from the flames.
"I know, but there's no other heroes around dammit if only All Might was here!" Death arms yelled in frustration.
Izuku stared longer at the slime villain slashing and thrusting about, before noticing a figure in the creature.
'Someone's in there and there managing to hold out I thought I'd be dead within seconds'
Squinting his eyes to get a better look, Izuku quickly noticed a familiar lock of spiky blonde hair along with an all to known quirk.
'KACCHAN!!!' Izuku mentally screamed not hesitating to run out into the chaos, his body moving before he could even reciprocate what was transpiring.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING GET BACK HERE!!!" A hero ordered out to him only to for it to fall under deaf ears
Dodging a incoming slash from the villain, Izuku took his bag of his shoulders thrusting it towards the sludge only for it to be quickly pushed away.
"You really think that's gonna work, hey would you look at that!! Your that kid from before I'll admit your some monster if you want to try and fight me, but it's over now!!" The sludge announced raising his hands in the air before bringing it downwards.
It happened all to quickly, Izuku felt an immense pain shoot through him like a bullet as he was crushed into the ground screaming out in a final attempt for help, but it didn't come. All the onlookers and heroes could do was cast shameful gazes at themselves.
Izuku Midoriya died.
A flash of white engulfed every pore of Izuku's body, covering him like a warm embrace. That was until it was torn away as fast as it had arrived, a big purple hand snaked around his lower back, beginning to drill into it, finding it's way to Izuku's somehow still beating heart.
'What.....is this, I thought I died. Is this because of someone's quirk..'
Snapping awake, he pat down the rest of his body trying to look for the rest of his injuries or wounds, but none were there it wasn't in the perfect condition it had been when he left...the rooftop.
Glancing around, Izuku found himself just there. Back onto the roof, where All Might had denied his chances of becoming a hero. How was this even possible, there was no way anything that had just happened wasn't real, he knew that he could really feel that pain.
Still left in a daze, as he stared at his now shaking hands, Izuku tried to think a way where the situation had actually taken place, and how he was somehow back where he started.
'Was it all a premonition is all of that really going to happen, could I have some kind of Foresight quirk!?'
His whole life Izuku had thought to be quirkless but here he was stripping back the fabric of reality, managing to overcome death was something thought to be impossible, even with the enhanced abilities most of the population possessed.
So how had he done it?
Blinking, at a nearby explosion he'd seen before. The greenette rushed towards the stairs quickly leaving the building and heading down the street.
'It doesn't matter right now what this power is I'm going to use it to save Kacchan!!'
Izuku instantly stormed through the crowd out into the chaos ignoring the yells from behind him.
"It's you again!!" The sludge growled swinging at the greenette taken aback by the boys reflex's, "I've found a better body now, you're just a nuisance!!"
'I've seen this before!!'
He jumped at the villain grabbing at the sludge digging away at only to be caught in the face by one of Bakugo's explosions, temporarily distracting him.
'Dammit Kacchan!!'
Izuku once again leaped towards the sludge in another attempt to save his friend, prepared to dodge under other swat from the reaching sludge.
A sudden slash at his stomach stopped Izuku in his tracks tracking his vision towards it, he realized one of the sludge villains arms had snuck past his sights managing to stab through his gut leaving blood pouring out of it.
"AHHHHH!!" He let out a confused shriek his vision blurry as he stared at his now bloodied hands pain coursing through his body, why did he have to feel something so horrible!?
He frighteningly flailed at the sludge, trying to pull it out of him only for his arms to pass through it.
'This pain it hurts it hurts!!' Izuku wanted to let out another cry of pain but his voice wouldn't come out.
"This'll teach you to play hero brat!!" The villain cackled digging his hand further into his stomach as he began coughing up blood.
'I can feel myself dying please someone help I don't want to die!!'
Izuku's body slumped onto the ground he could only see Bakugo continuing to be suffocated.
'No matter what...'
He dug his fingers into the dirt clenching his teeth in determination.
'.....I'm going to save him!!'
And yet again Izuku Midoriya died.
Izuku immediately threw up the second he returned falling onto his knees in shock and exhaustion.
'I died again I didn't even manage to do that much this time I just rushed in thinking it would all work out'
'Can I even save him or will I just be stuck in an endless loop of deaths!!'
Izuku clenched his fist as he picked himself up staring at the explosion that had just appeared in the distance.
'I can't do that no matter how many times I have to die, I've been given this power and I'll use it to save people!!'
Once again coming face to face with the crowd Izuku stopped himself from rushing out to the villain instead he began to strategize.
"I have to give Kacchan time to breath but there's no real way to get him out of the sludge without a emitter type quirk but surely there has to be some way-"
A plan suddenly clicked in the greenette's head quickly rushing forward catching the attention of the pro-heroes.
"Kid what the hell do you think your doing!!" Backdraft scolded still putting out some flames
"I'm going to save that person I just need your help trust me!!" Izuku explained not looking back still charging at the villain.
"There's no way we can listen to some kid right!?" Death arms sarcastically chuckled in the stupidity of it all.
A sudden pause came from the heroes shocked the pro.
"Y-you can't be serious he's just a kid and were just gonna listen to his orders he's just putting his life at stake along with the kid being held hostage!!"
They didn't have time to answer as they looked back at the charging teen, watching as he slung his bag over his shoulder.
'This time I'll throw it faster and higher!!'
It was quickly thrown in the direction of the villain's eye, temporarily stunning him giving the spiky blonde a moment to breath.
Not having any chance to stop, Izuku dodged the hand that had previously killed him continuing forward.
"What the hell are you doing here Deku!!" Bakugo gasped coughing up some of the sludge, finally able to speak.
"I couldn't just stand there and watch you to die Kacchan!" Izuku retorted his focus on digging at the villains body until his childhood friend was mostly free.
"Kamui Woods now!!!" The greenette bellowed the pro-hero quickly catching on to the quirkless boy's plan throwing a small string of branches at the teenagers.
They quickly grappled onto Bakugo pulling him back towards the crowd, "No let me go I refuse to take any help from that bastard!!" The blonde demanded growling like a wild animal.
All Might looked in sheer astonishment, the boy who had just proclaimed he was quirkless just a half hour ago had rushed out and was fighting to save his friend.
'To think I told that boy that he couldn't become a hero and I'm standing here doing nothing I'm supposed to be a pillar of hope!!'
Before, Izuku could give a breath of relief he was suddenly smacked by the villain arm knocking him into one of the burnt building.
'No I was so stupid all I could think about was saving Kacchan'
Another hand began stretching outwards ready to completely crush Izuku, possibly forcing him to reset it all again.
'I don't want to die, not again!!'
Izuku closed his eyes preparing for the impact and either his actual death or another restart.
"To think I chastised you for trying to become a hero and yet I'm so pathetic!!" A booming voice alerted the greenette
"Don't fear young Midoriya for I am here!!" All Might announced reeling his fist back before smashing into the villain sending a gust of wind across the alleyway before shooting into the sky separating the clouds.
"Woah amazing he changed the weather," A civilian exclaimed
Izuku looked up at All Might in awe as his easily took down the villain, "So that's the power of the number one hero ," Izuku murmured.
"Are you alright young Midoriya?" The blonde hero questioned lending his hand to the boy
Izuku gladly accepted it picking himself up, "Thank you All Might!!" He thanked a toothy smile on his face.
All Might didn't get a chance to reply as a swarm of reporters suddenly rushed onto the scene.
Izuku was taking the quick way home mumbling to himself, "What should I call this power Death Return, Reincarnation, Survival from the dead, " A sudden name clicked in the greenette's head.
'Return By Death!!' He exclaimed internally.
"Hey you damn nerd stop mumbling I've been calling you for awhile now!!" The blonde snapped gripping Izuku by the collar.
"Just so you know I didn't need or want any help from a pathetic weakling like you!!" Bakugo growled gaining sharp teeth as he spoke.
He dropped him to the floor mumbling something about him just being a Deku and how he didn't need his help.
"Well that's it I guess I should give up on my dream even with this quirk, I can't do much," Izuku sighed in defeat continuing to walk home.
Suddenly, All Might skidded from another alleyway, "YOUNG MIDORIYA I AM HERE!!" He boomed before shrinking into his skeleton form coughing up blood.
"A-Ah are you alright!!" Izuku questioned slightly startled by the intrusion.
"Why of course but forget about that I have much to speak with you!!"
"With me why!?"
"Well I saw what you did out there it was incredibly heroic," All Might spoke nonchalantly not noticing the impact it had on the greenette.
'I can be.... a hero'
Before, he knew it tears were already welling up in his eyes and he fell to his knees.
"Young man, I'd like to apologize for what I said before but after today there's not I shadow of doubt that you can become a hero!!" All Might declared staring at the boy intently.
"And you shall be the next to inherit my power!!"
Izuku did a double take making sure he hadn't heard him wrong.
"I'm sorry d-did y-you say i-inherit?" Izuku repeated in shock
"That's correct you shall be the next to inherit my power known as One for All!!" All Might continued as his hand began to glow.
"One for All..." Izuku repeated back, still in utter awe.
"That's correct its a great power passed on from one person to other cultivating and strengthening it!!"
"Do you wish to inherit my power?" All Might questioned getting an immediate response from the boy.
"Of course!!" Izuku replied back enthusiastically, wiping his snotty eyed face quickly.
"That's what I thought you'd say now make sure to wake up early and meet me at Dagobah beach at 9:00, sharp!!" The number one hero explained before transforming back into his muscle form rushing off.
'No way, not only do I I have some weird new quirk and now All Might want's me to inherit his own'
Thinking back on it, dying twice in the same day wasn't exactly perfect and not even plausible with the strength of quirks thus far. But if he could use that twisted power to help others, than he was sure it would all work out.
Back at his house, Izuku was quickly reprimanded by his mother by what she'd seen on the TV that day.
"Izuku I can't believe you'd be so reckless!!" Inko scolded comedically slapping him on the head
"I'm s-sorry mum but o-once I saw that K-Kacchan was in trouble. M-My body sort of moved on it's own," Izuku explained sheepishly
'That's not technically a lie considering the first loop' It was sickening thought, but a factual one.
Once, he was finally alone in his bedroom Izuku opened up a fresh notebook having discarded the one Bakugo had burned previously that day.
As soon as he had finished writing he closed it, put it inside his draw and headed to bed prepared for the next day.
Izuku Midoriya's Quirk- Return By Death
Once the user has died he will be returned to a certain checkpoint in time, it will most likely be before the user has died, it is not quite certain if once he's died that he will be sent to same checkpoint or how far in time he will be sent, may have to be tested at a later date.
Extra Note: Some of the pain from deaths are carried over into the next loop but it is soon gone, not sure if it will lead to any emotional trauma.
