“This didn’t work out as I had intended.”
“What exactly did you intend?”
“For one thing, I thought when we finally had our first date, we’d both be on it.”
Hearing his obvious yearning had her heart racing.
“Slippery Pete living up to his name?”
“Fucker’s normally more boring than unbuttered bread, but now he tries to lose me. I’m sorry, Robin.”
“I know. Another time,” she smiled.
Strike insisted that their first “real date” be special, but life kept getting in the way. Robin didn’t mind. She knew it would be special, when they finally got around to it.
