God?

Summary:

Dawn has a question to ask Adaman and Irida.

What could go wrong?

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

"So is the 'Almighty Sinnoh' supposed to be Dialga, Palkia, or Arceus?" Dawn asked, unaware that neither clan leader actually recognized any of the names. If they worshipped the god, why wouldn't they know what it was called?

"Run those names by me again?" Irida asked.

"Or just the entire question. Mind explaining how you came to the conclusion it was any of those?" Adaman requested.

"Well, you guys keep saying how Almighty Sinnoh is either the god of time or the god of space, but when I first asked what you were arguing about, Lucas told me it was over which was the 'true' god. So, it's either Dialga, Palkia, or Arceus." Dawn concluded.

"Okay, but who are those three?" Irida clarified her earlier question.

"The ruler of time, the ruler of space, and the god that created this world." Dawn answered. "I thought that was obvious. Why else would I bring them up?"

Instead of answering, both clan leaders seemed... pensive. Dawn felt like she was missing something, shouldn't the answer be obvious to the both of them? Really, they should have been able to answer immediately.

"Adaman? Irida?" Dawn asked. No response from either clan leader, but they shared a look.

Just as Dawn was about to ask if they were okay, Adaman spoke.

"For reference, which one did you say was which?"

"Uh- Dialga rules time, Palkia rules space, Arceus created the universe."

"And they're all real?" Irida chimed in.

"Yeah, of course. At least, the legends about them are very much real. I haven't actually, y'know, met a god."

Adaman and Irida were staring at each other again. Dawn was getting concerned. She didn't think the two would end up fighting, but she couldn't think of another reason for them to stare at each other so intensely. Though usually there was an argument leading up to that.

"You two aren't going to start fighting again, are you?"

That finally seemed to snap the two out of their strange staring match.

"No, we-"
"That's not-"

Both cut themselves off from whatever they were going to say. Dawn got that it wasn't a fight at least.

"Are you two alright then? You're acting weird."

Irida shook her head. "You just... gave us a lot to think about. But now isn't the place."

"Nor the time." Adaman agreed. "Don't you need to be going to wherever it is you're exploring today?"

Dawn did, actually, but she still wondered what was going on.

"If you're sure you're alright..."Both Irida and Adaman reassured her. She left, switching her focus to the pokedex.

It was only after looking through her notes on pokemon she still hadn't found from the Sinnoh region that she realized she never got an answer to her question.

- - -

Adaman broke the silence that once again grew between them. "Dialga and Palkia. What do you think?"

"I don't know whether or not to believe it. After all, Dawn didn't even know for certain." Irida answered carefully.

"But if it is true..."

"It would change everything."

"For now, at least, I believe we keep this to ourselves."

"Can't believe I'm saying this to you of all people, but I agree."

And with that, there was an air of levity between them again. Things may have been different, but they were very much the same.

Notes:

Adaman and Irida's staring was kind of a simultaneous mental crisis. Does that make sense?

No? Then maybe both thought they should apologize for saying the other's god was fake and decided they didn't want to.

Also, they from this point forth start referring to Dialga and Palkia by name instead of as 'Almighty Sinnoh' without realizing it, confusing their clan members. Then it is assumed that the leaders had some sort of vision or something that they learned the names from after the events of the Temple of Sinnoh.
