Chapter Text

It was an awful day.

“The useless madrigal”

“Stay out of the way”

“All you do is mess things up”

“You’d be better off dead”

“Curse”

It seemed that no matter how hard Mirabel tried, she would always get in the way or mess things up.

She tried so hard to make her family notice her.
Maybe she was better off dead.

“A disgrace to the madrigal family”

Annoyed, she grabbed the knife from her draw, and slowly pressed it against her arm.

“She deserved this”

Drip drip drip

“Better off dead”

Drip drip drip

“Worthless”

Drip dri-

“Mirabel, breakfasts ready! Come get it before I do!”

“Camilo” she groaned, as she dived into her wardrobe trying to find a long sleeve dress or something that would cover her wounds.
She felt the warm liquid slowly oozing out of her body, in a way it was comforting.

Luckily there was a long sleeved shirt, it was black so it would make it hard to see the blood. If Mirabel was being honest she didn’t feel like wearing her aqua blue skirt, she wasn’t really in the mood, if that makes sense. Instead she grabbed a red skirt, sure it didn’t look that great but she was too exhausted to care. She quickly slipped it on, wincing at the sudden contact with her wounds.

Taking a deep breath she gripped the doorknob and opened the door.
“Smile, just smile and everything will be ok”

—---------------------------------
Dolores was half-way through her breakfast when she saw Mirabel walk slowly to the table.
An empty smile was painted onto her face, Dolores could tell when something was wrong with her prima, and what was she wearing?
Her prima was wearing a black shirt and a blood red skirt, this was very unlike Mirabel. Normally she would be the first one awake, normally she would have bags of energy, normally she would be quite talkative, but apparently today was different.

“Are you ok prima? Is something bothering you?”

“I'm fine”

“Are you sure, you don’t look ok”

Mirabel hesitated for a second, before opening her mouth to say something.

“I-”

“Mirabel, stop bothering Dolores, i’m sure whatever you have to say can wait”
There it was again, Alma butting into someone else’s conversation.

Dolores watched as Mirabel picked at her food, not even bothering to look up at anyone.
Something was obviously wrong, how was her family so blind?

—------------------------------------

When breakfast was over Dolores watched as Mirabel retreated back to the nursery.

Dolores swiftfully followed her to the top of the stairs.

“Mirabel, are you sure you're ok?”

“Yea”.

“Somethings obviously wrong, you know you can talk to me anytime you wa-”

“I said I'm fine,” Mirabel replied, this time a bit louder.
Mirabel turned around to face Dolores.
Mirabel looked… horrendous.
Hair pointing in every direction, eyes a deep shade of red, cheeks stained with tears and she had lost so much weight that she was just skin and bone, it was crystal clear that she has not been eating well, infact Dolores hadn’t seen her eat once in a couple of days.

“Mirabel…”

“I SAID I’M FINE”

Dolores watches as her youngest prima bolts back to her room, leaving Dolores staring in shock.

Something was definitely wrong. How long has Mirabel been like this? Why hasn’t she noticed? She's never heard Mirabel yell like that before.

Dolores needs to help Mirabel with whatever is stressing her out.

She doesn’t want Mirabel to suddenly disappear,

Just like her tio Bruno.
