Work Text:

It was supposed to be a stupid joke. Nothing was supposed to come of it.

When the girls of 1-A were having a sleepover, Mina made the stupid suggestion to “summon the Deku demon.” You go into a bathroom alone, lights turned off at midnight, say the phrase “I ask for your patronage, Deku Demon” three times, and supposedly a demon appears in the mirror, asking for your wish.

It was a stupid urban legend… that’s all it was. It was supposed to make them laugh at the absurdity of it. And yet, when Jirou Kyoka did the pledge, low and behold a figure appear next to her in the mirror. At first she thought it was just Tooru trying to prank her, but there were no floating clothes next to her

The demon was just a shadow, but the one color that showed was the viridian eyes that stared at her. She then felt something grab her throat, and lift her off the ground.

“You’re either stupid, or brave, because you don’t look desperate.” The demons voice cut through the still air. Yet what was strange was the voice was that of a teenager, someone her age almost. “Tell me what you require of me, and be warned… I don’t like having my time wasted.”

The demon’s grip around her neck tightened. Her windpipe was dangerously close to getting crushed. She coughed and gasped for air, and thankfully the creature loosened it just a little bit more. It was still straining her neck, but at least she could speak.

“I… I…” she whimpered out. She didn’t know what to do, or what to say! How would this… thing react if she said it was a joke? She could feel death on the fingers that wrapped around her neck. What could she possibly ask for that would get her out alive!? “I want to be the best hero!”

It was just a vague demand. Something to give her time to think. Yet the green glow pierced her soul as she was gently let go.

“Very well.” The demon unwrapped its fingers away from her neck before place two hands on her shoulders. “Let us mark our deal, shall we?” All of a sudden a tense burning was felt on her shoulder and upper arm. She tried to scream out in pain, but could only gasp. “If you tell anyone about this deal, the contract breaks, and your soul is forfeit.” The demon lets go of her shoulders and she stumbles back into the wall. “A pleasure making your acquaintance… Kyoka Jirou.”

With that the lights buzzed back to life and the cold stiff air flowed again. Kyoka clutched her heart as it continued to race. She dropped to the floor, wondering if what just happened was even real.

“Jirou, are you okay?” Mina asked as she opened the door. She saw her friend on the ground and immediately rushed to her aid, asking what happened. Jirou wanted to tell her the truth, but the sill present tingling on her shoulder reminded her of the consequences.

“I just… slipped in the dark,” she lied.

“I told you it was dangerous Ashido!” Momo reprimanded her classmate. Mina pulls Kyoka out and bows apologetically, before handing her one of her snacks as an apology gift.

Maybe… Maybe it was just a hallucination. Kyoka thought.  Y-Yeah, a stress hallucination! That’s all this was. Just... stress.

“We have a new student joining us today,” Aizawa announced. This caught everyone’s attention, as Shinso had already taken the empty seat from the sports festival. “Please help him out as best you can. Introduce yourself.” Aizawa took out a jelly pack and began slurping from it, signaling the boy to enter. A short bushy green haired boy entered the room wearing the U.A. uniform. He had green piercing eyes that made Kyoka shutter, as it reminded her of the hallucination last night.

“Hello, I’m Izuku Midoriya,” he introduced himself. Before he could continue Bakugo slammed his hands on the table and stood up. Everyone turned toward him only to see something in his eyes they’ve never seen.

Fear.

“D-Deku…” he mumbled. The green boy waved nervously at the blonde before facing the class again. However, Jirou was the only one who heard what the blonde muttered under his breath. “You… you’re dead… how…”Jirou’s eyes immediately shifted back to the new student who stared down the class.

“I-I know I’m new here, but I hope I get to know all of you,” he said. As he said that last part, his eyes shifted over to Jirou, and he nervously rubbed his upper arm.

Kyoka’s shoulders tingled and itch as the boy stared her down. It was then she knew. That nervous smile was in fact a devious one. A charming smile with evil intentions. The perfect disguise for her contract holder.

She gulped as the boy… the demon moved into a seat across the room.

She actually made a deal with a devil. All she could do was whisper one word.

“Shit…”

Notes:

So I'll be honest, I'm not sure if I'll continue this. I kinda just wanted to throw a prompt out there and get this out of my head, but then it turned into an 800 word short stroy. I'll see if I add onto this later, but don't expect a whole lot. In the meantime, feel free to take it as a prompt! Switch who gets the deal, what kind of deal, if Midoriya is creepier or more incubus-like, don't care either way, go nuts! Hope you all enjoyed.

Shoutout to the Cult of Shady Discord for giving me the idea.
