Chapter Text
-Prologue-
It was a gloomy day. The sky was gray and the air cold, even though it was a late May morning. The birds didn’t chirp and the wind was nonexistent. Everything was still and quiet in nature. The only sound that could be heard was the voice of the priest as he said lovely words of a final farewell to two loving parents who were taken from the life of the living far too soon.
Many mourned the loss. It was a tragedy that happened on a dark slippery road only a week before. They didn’t see the animal wander into the road at first, a cow it said in the police report. The car swerved off the road, the tire tracks still visible--tracks that had to be driven over in order to get to the cemetery. The car then veered into a tree, killing both passengers, the tree falling onto its side.
Many mourned the loss, but only two people mourned more than the others. Their pale, numb, grief-stricken faces caused everyone to shed tears of loss for them—a son and daughter that would now only have each other.
As the funeral proceeded, the two just stared at the caskets. As they began to be lowered down, the pair of siblings stood up and each grabbed a fist of dirt. The daughter walked to her mother’s grave while the son traveled to his father’s. Tears fell down each person’s face in attendance as the dirt fell from their hands and into two gaping holes in the ground.
On that morning, Clark and Kara Kent not only said goodbye to their parents, but goodbye to their lives as they knew them.
