Chapter Text
Scarecrow lay there, defeated. He had the rift engine his grasp, and than SAR had come and took it from him. It was embarrassing, SAR had easily taken him down with barely even a fight. And now here he lay in the dusty sand, dizzy and hurt.
He heard approaching footsteps, and than the tell-tale sound of a chariot rolling towards him.
“Oh my god” Maureen breathed, staring at Scarecrows unmoving form. John and Don exited the chariot, before freezing at the sight of Scarecrow, and then hurrying over.
“Is he dead?” Don asked, concerned.
Scarecrow just huffed air through his cooling vents, annoyed. How dare the humans assume him dead. Though the attention was pretty nice…
“Not dead” he intoned, stirring the humans into motion.
Maureen rushed to his side, kneeling down beside him and fussing over him. She checked for injuries, and deduced that either he had none or they were internal.
“Here, lets load him up into the chariot, we need to get him back to the Sunshine base.” Maureen instructed.
“The others wont like that” Don pointed out
“We’ll cross that bridge when we get there” John replied, starting towards Scarecrow.
Don sighed, exasperated “I don’t understand you Robinsons”
Maureen and John hefted and lifted, trying with all their might to lift the robot up and failing. They panted, muscles burning from the strain. Maureen glanced over at Scarecrow
“Can you walk?” she asked breathlessly
“Try” Scarecrow responded, starting to move his arms.
He scrambled at the ground for purchase, before eventually standing up. He wavered dangerously on his feet, prompting the others to step back in case he fell. He tripped, and nearly fell backward before righting himself. He stumbled, before he managed to stand up properly, swaying.
“Alright Scarecrow, just follow us ok?” Maureen instructed encouragingly.
The robot took a step forward, stumbling. They continued to stumble after the humans as directed, until he was at the chariot. The doors opened and he stumbled in, collapsing onto the back seats. Don came in after, careful not to brush against him, and sat down near his head.
The others got in the front and the vehicle started. Scarecrow twitched as the chariot rumbled. Don looked over and tentatively, reached out a hand. He patted Scarecrows head, trying to reassure him.
“Its gonna be ok buddy, just hold on” he assured.
After a while, the vehicle rumbled to a stop. They were inside the Jupiter now, ready to head back to Sunshine base.
The doors opened and the humans got out. Maureen looked back at the open chariot as John closed the Jupiter’s ramp
“Hey, you don’t need to stay cooped up in there if you don’t want to.” She pointed out, Scarecrow letting out an affirmative trill in response.
Maureen lingered for moment, before leaving to help the others prepare to take off. Scarecrow whined as the ship shook as it took off. After a few minutes the shaking ceased, indicating they were now in space. The idea of calming stars, blinking so much like his lights, soothed him.
The ship shuddered as it docked with the Sunshine base. He could hear someone -or someones- running into the room. He ignored it for the most part, too exhausted to care.

“You’re bac-“ Ava exclaimed, trying to run into the Jupiter and being stopped by Maureen who was at the door.
“Don’t come in” Maureen spoke, tone serious.
Ava appeared confused, and a tad bit worried at this. She leaned over Maureen, trying to see into the room beyond. Maureen promptly moved in her way again.
“Is there a contaminant or something? Should I find a medic?” Ava asked
“Well-“ Maureen was cut off as Don entered the room.
“Heya Ava! You will not believe who we found!” Don exclaimed
“Don, let me handle thi-“
“We found Scarecrow! That’s the copper robot that’s good like Wills robo-“ Don was swiftly cut off by Ava
“You found a robot and brought it here?!” she cried in alarm
“Alright it was nice talking to you, bye” Maureen rushed out, triggering the doors that sealed them off from the rest of the Sunshine base. Ava tried to protest as the doors slid shut.
Maureen slumped against the door.
What a day.
