Work Text:
When they found themselves on missions that took place on Earth or any other universe where they had to travel by car, it was Mobius who drove.
Loki had never bothered to learn, but he never talked about his reasons either.
In fact Loki liked to nap in the car and most of all he liked to watch Mobius.
As it was the case at the moment, the advantage being, that they were not on a mission at the moment. The mission was over and they had decided to turn it into a mini road trip, the week being over. An improvised vacation of sorts.
The sunlight came through the windshield of the car and Loki felt it on his skin, sometimes shaded at the bend in the road when the sun was hiding behind the trees or the signs, or the mountains.
He was sometimes shaken, on the rare occasions when Mobius couldn't avoid a hole in the obviously unfrequented old road. Mobius was a good driver, which is why Loki could sleep without being on guard.
What had pulled him out of his sleep was Mobius humming, never loud, and often what he hummed would lull Loki to sleep, but this time it had had the opposite effect. Not that Loki was complaining, after all, there were worse sounds to wake up from sleep.
Loki sat with his head resting on the door frame and his eyes still closed, but he couldn't help but smile at Mobius' voice. He opened his eyes to observe the profile of his lover. After a moment, Mobius must have felt Loki's gaze on him because he turned his head slightly toward him and said, "Already? Did I wake you up?"
Loki shook his head, straightened up and put a hand on Mobius' knee to reassure him, "Yes and no, I never sleep deeply you know that."
Mobius squeezed Loki's hand and put it back on the wheel.
Loki left his hand on Mobius' knee and continued to watch him. He liked to look at Mobius, especially as he was there, his eyes constantly focused straight ahead on the endless road and his lips usually smiling. The sun was dancing on the skin that was slightly tanned from their last missions outside and his jaw was shadowed with the beginnings of a beard. His hair was slightly disheveled and his shirt was open and the sleeves rolled up over his arms because of the heat. The tie was abandoned on the back seat. A messy image of Agent Mobius, the opposite of the one he had when he left for work in the morning. And God, Loki loved it, even more when he was the one ruining the perfect appearance.
Mobius smiled at him again as he saw that Loki was still watching him and asked, "So, do you like what you see?"
Loki ran his tongue over his lips and replied, "You have no idea..." making Mobius chuckle as he raised his hand and placed it on the back of Loki's neck, stroking the base of the neck before resting it on the steering wheel again. Loki gently stroked Mobius' knee with his hand that was still resting on it.
Loki saw that Mobius was trying not to react to the caress, but his lover couldn't help but protest softly, "Loki, I need to concentrate to drive, and this isn't helping me at all."
Loki pouted, then gave in, withdrawing his hand, but he leaned against the door continuing to observe Mobius who resumed his little humming.
Loki was pulled out of his contemplation when the car stopped abruptly on the side of the road. He looked out the window, there was nothing to suggest a reason to stop, no parking, no gas station, no habitation. A complete desert. He asked, surprised, to Mobius, "Why are we stopping?"
Mobius raised an eyebrow, "How do you expect me to continue to focus on my conduct with a delectable lover at my side and the impossibility of touching him."
"Oh and what are you planning to do about -"
Loki's provocative comment was cut off by Mobius' mouth kissing him. Apparently he wasn't lying when he said Loki was delectable, as he was literally devouring him. But Loki was not complaining in the least. He loved the fact that Mobius, the control-freak at all times, let his passion run wild with Loki.
When Mobius pulled back a little, Loki was more than a little dazed by the kiss but that didn't stop him from pulling Mobius to him to continue the kiss, showing Mobius that he wasn't the only one who was hungry.
Much later, Mobius moved back, pressed one last kiss to Loki's lips and took his place behind the wheel, a satisfied smile on his face.
Loki let himself be lulled by the voice of Mobius who hummed again and by the drowsiness in which the kiss had put him and fell asleep, wishing that the road was very long if it was interrupted by interludes of this kind.
When he woke up again, the sky was almost dark and the car was stopped in what seemed to be a parking lot. Even if it was just them.
Mobius was leaning towards him and it was him who was watching Loki this time.
Loki laughed lightly, his mind still foggy from sleep.
Mobius stepped back, got out of the car and went to open the door on Loki's side, holding out his hand to help him out.
They went to lean on a nearby railing and observed the landscape around them, hand in hand, bathing in the softness of this summer evening, a light breeze making the heat bearable.
In front of them was a small forest, the sound of a small river could be heard.
Loki murmured, looking up at the starry sky, "It's really beautiful here."
Mobius turned to him, wrapped his arms around Loki's waist and said, "Almost as beautiful as you."
Loki closed his arms around him, kissed the top of Mobius' head and rested his chin on his head.
Then he whispered against Mobius' hair, "It's almost as beautiful as us."
